The Artisan disappeared from the official website…
Speculation time!
Gets removed because it actually gets replaced but they do everyhting on the live website so we noticed the change.
Or
Gets removed because they only now realize they posted the Artisan teaser instead of at Xmas
Or
Artisan is delayed
Without even talking about the
" Based on our tests, no obvious difference in VR gaming experiences between 8K and 8K X"
lol
Or
Artisan is replaced by another headset already
The Artisan+ with better panels but longer delivery time
Well that’s debatable.
We did think we were getting full rgb panels & I remember this question being asked & answered before the end of the Kickstarter.
Remember this:
That’s also why some here found it hard to believe it was stated there was no noticeable difference between 8k & 8kx.
It was only when backers had their headsets & the pixel pattern was studied, we found out the panels weren’t full rgb.
I’m not asking for all 8ks to be exchanged but its understandable people feel a bit shafted.
it was about the 8K-X prototype with the same panels as the 8K . not the new one of the 8K+/8K-X. telling the 8K+ is the 8K we all waited for is a rhetorical statement. The 8K+ was simply not possible one or two years ago. I’m still seeking 4K after market panels for a project and those available are the same that were available 2-3 years ago with a 30Hz controller. For all the things we can say of Pimax a failed 8K is not one of them. The 8K was the first product of a line up evolving with technology available to small cie. By choosing to back the 8K we choose to help a company bring new Vr tech to market and the did which will hopefully result in a 100% functional 8K+ and 8K-X
https://help.kickstarter.com/hc/en-us/articles/115005028514-What-are-the-basics-
Backers are folks who pledge money to join creators in bringing projects to life. Kickstarter is not a store, backers support a creative process. ** Rewards** are a creator’s chance to share a piece of their project with their backer community. Typically, these are one-of-a-kind experiences, limited editions, or copies of the creative work being produced.
Taking pre-order and money before the prototype is even fully tested, bad testing practice, overs optimistic delivery schedule and wild communication strategy are the main culprit of PImax not the 8K campaign/product
I want to see if we can deduce some probable info from the name Artisan
Makes me think the hand tracking device might get a double role as inside-out tracker
Let’s hope that…
I certainly feel that one major issue will be much more unlikely adressed in the future: Geometry Morhping right in the middle.
I am no expert on that but I guess that since they keep using the same lenses (SWE stated as well that because expensive tooling we won’t see a new lens design) but using different screens in all devices, they will need to apply updated geometry corrections for MANY DIFFERENT SCREENS with every new pitool. Hence MORE WORKLOAD, where DISCONTINUED PRODUCTS wil FOR SURE lead to LESS ATTENTION when the new products get prioritized.
So I don’t buy the “will not be affected” statements…
The Artisan actually may have been a lucky shot experiment, just like the 5k+.
It’s clearly going to be hand made, with a choice of luxurious interior trims. Blue leather facepad anyone?
I like the orange they demo’d in Amsterdam actually
But the reason I wanted to look at the word definition is because it’s a Chinese company who might arrive at the word differently than native English speakers
Actually he didn’t mention pixel matrix. Just RGB, not RGB stripe.
8K has 4K RGB ‘diagonal’ panels, so he made no lie after all.
Orange is nice, although I think that’s test material rather than hand-stitched by a master leather maker hehe…
Yes fair enough, naturally they’ve chosen the name for a marketing reason, but might be interpreted differently as you say. The default meaning to me is that it is a handmade, bespoke product, which of course it certainly isn’t.
It is a DIY headset, delived disassembled
The question was rgb or pentile.
Although technically all panels are rgb in some way, i think it was quite obvious what was being asked.
Also the 8k panel is not proper 4k. It doesn’t have enough pixels. It’s better described as G/RB half 4k aka faux 4k.
It has shifted pixels to imitate 4k but only has half the resolution on 1 axis.
Worse is it takes a 4k signal but can’t display it very well due to the half res on 1 axis, hence the lack of clarity, blur & resource heavy need for more supersampling.
I’m sure it was also answered by another pimax member at some point back then.
Also people asked for further clarification.
Pimax never gave any further clarification on this.
Even when people started studying the pixel layout, pimax stayed tight lipped
Oh, Pentile is patent of Samsung, so Pimax can not use it unless they buy Samsung’s OLED panels.
Pimax is master at mincing words, so we have to imagine worst case every time they mince the word.
RGB as not black and white.
Yes I know pentile is Samsung’s design.
Either way we were left with the impression that we would get full rgb.
Pimax evaded many questions which would have uncovered this earlier.
We had to uncover it ourselves once the 8ks we’re in our hands.
Not quite sure why people like to defend them on this.
It’s like people don’t mind being mugged off.
It’s bloody Stockholm syndrome
Now i know that, but i was young & naive during the kickstarter lol
