Pimax ARTISAN Discussion (Entry Level Headset)

Smart find! and quite easy to do the math then

Oops, There was a mistake. I did not put the fact that products for Chinese are 10% much expensive than global ones into calculation . I will fix it now.

I would buy that 140 fov , reverb / 8kx ppd and reasonable price ie £6-700

But will have to wait and see how good the inside out tracking of the controllers is. Even a huge company like HTC (as compared to Pimax) has miserably failed with this.

Ever since I owned the 4K I keep being amazed at what Pimax can do with software. I find it plausible they actually deliver a decent product if they produce these controllers for inside-out tracking. But yes, we’ll see…

If Pimax give up inside-out compatible controller, it must be easy to adopt inside-out tracking.

It’s extremely difficult. You’d need AI that can analyses the cam images, compute a room image, filter out any objects that may have moved, correct for light circumstances, then compute the positions and all do that at extremely low latency and high reliability. It would take a team of very skilled software developers to do this and they’d need to work on it for a long time. And all that is taking away resources that just have could been used to fulfill the commitments to the backers (and people that have pre-ordered current headsets).

Unless of course they’re indeed buying it from a 3rd party.

They will absolutely buy it 3rd party but will also code for the snappy module so they can integrate their own controllers.

I hope so. It would be just insane to try it themselves.

Uh, don’t say this.

Didn’t you know it’s Robin “Insane? Challenge accepted!” Weng’s company ?

Yeah part of me thinks they’re stupid enough to do it. In which case it won’t work well and will eat up huge resources of Pimax.

Sorry to break it to you, but those resources have long left the building.

I had to google the name artisen too, couldnt find any definitian really related to Vr or ???

Well, despite being Artisan not Artisen, it is a word-coinage of Art (Artist) and Partisan (rebellish figher)
Actually a nice one, at least the name.

And finally a coolish name that doesn’t seem to be spoken for.:wink:

Hehe yeah finally something Pimax seems to do better, naming their hardware. I think “Artisan” is pretty cool

The Artisan teaser on the website was not really planned for this week, and due to some unfortunate miscommunication, it accidentally got public. We apologise for that. The few specs revealed didn’t really tell the full story (or purpose) of this headset, and this created a lot of confusion as a result.

We will of course reveal Artisan in full very soon, including the price and all specs. It might or might not happen before CES, but we will definitely demo Artisan on CES, along with the new release candidate of 8KX and final 8K+. As you may understand, Artisan will not be launched or shipped upon Christmas as the banner mistakenly hinted you about, but it will be available not far from now.

Once again, we apologise for the confusion caused.

And on the upside, I can inform you that Im currently testing the release candidate of 8KX, and Im happy to say it works like a charm with the new manufactured cable, a new PCB and some new improvements. And thanks to the surprisingly fast progress the Pimax engineers have made since our EU roadshow, Im pretty sure we are getting very close to the release of 8KX.

I have to disagree with you here. Generally speaking LCD’s are assumed to be RGB , and everyone assumed so. Otherwise why not just go OLED.

Somehow Pimax managed to source the worlds only Pentile LCD and it was barely better than 5k , which is astounding. Theres no way the quality difference between a 2.5K and a 4K screen should be “debatable”

I mean they must have known how disappointing the 8k pentile screens turned out to be so they offered everyone a chance to save money and get the 5k+ which was better looking.

Im sure if they could have discontinued the 8k right then an there and offer 8k backers the choice to wait for the 8k+ like they did for the 5k+ they would have.

But the screens were too far out.

I think you are right about the inside out tracking. Today’s pitool update hints at it. Notice they use the sentence “if” you are using light house positioning.

What other type of positioning would we be using?

Inside out tracking confirmed… @SweViver  or  this post if i’m right.
