I think it may be down to a preference in colors and how particular some may be about colors. When I was testing the VP2 for the past two weeks not once did I think that the colors looked any better than what I was seeing with my 8KX. If there was a difference then it wasn’t great enough for me to notice it. Maybe I’m just not very sensitive to color differences.
We’re definitely all very different when it comes to things like colors and noticing distortion or refresh rates for example. I am pretty picky, replaced my TV for example just because I wanted better colors.
Yeah I’m not sure if it was revised but my experience is that I had an 8kx back in September and was comparing it to the g2. At the time I couldn’t get the colors close.
On the Pro 2 I was able to get a really close picture (IMO) based on someones recommended settings of 100% backlight, -3 brightness and +1 contrast. I went back and forth between the too and was initially satisfied but then decided to tweak a bit further and got -1 in the red channel. Really similar to me.
That said, I have massive Oled TV an Cellphone and I never felt the VP2’s colors were on the same level. Not sure if people were being hyperbolic or maybe I just got a bad Vive but it really just looked dim with a ton of glare.
FYI I’ve been using this to compare headsets and also adjust the 8KX by loading up in a Desktop View.
There’s a similar one in Pimax Experience, but this one has more colors.
Here’s another for black levels:
I have the 8KX able to see every color…by default the reds were too saturated.
The Quest 2 is the same way, the last 4-5 red columns are the same color in the Quest 2 over Air Link/Virtual Desktop.
this blacklevel picture are nice. thx.
Personally, i find the colors on the 8kx very natural.
Not this Bonbon power.
I actually just noticed that my left panel seems to have much, much warmer color temperature than the right? Has anyone experienced this on their 8kx?
No but try this.
Look at at white wall (not in the HMD) but in real life.
Now close each eye, alternating between left and right.
Do you see any difference in the white colour on the wall ?
The reason I ask this is, that some people’s eyes are slightly different, their eyes perceive colours differently. My left eye sees a slightly cooler and the right a tad bit warmer.
So when looking though an HMD this could be perceived as improperly calibrated displays.
Yes and also it can be temporary effect, I have this problem quite often, my left eye sees a picture colder than right but then it restores, it doesn’t affect sharpness but may affect colours perception
Mine is a bit different too but nothing drastic (taken from my review):
I believe that picture is before I tried changing any colors.
It’s the panels. I tested it to account for a any difference in my vision. There’s a noticeable difference between the two.
TS review very similar to VoodooDE and Ben Lang from RTVR, maybe slightly more positive but he really couldn’t come up with a good use case over the index etc.

Tidied up HTC VP2 Topic. Please try to keep topic on track as suggested by @PimaxUSA

Another 8kX vs VP2 review on r/pimax.
@PimaxQuorra you may want to review this as well.
Wow that’s really harsh.
Hopefully he washes it before he sends his review unit back to HTC.
Yeah, and surprisingly honest and concise despite the goofy silliness
Suppose he couldn’t qute flush this game changer
i agree on the point that vp2 is not a good hmd,
visuals good, i can see 0 sde, i tried hard to see it on white screen but there is zero SDE , however there are nasty scan lines issue (same as on index when it was launched, also i see it on g2 but much less) and many ppl mix scanlines with sde but that can be fixed in firmware. Colours, contrast, brightness are good
then points that i didnt like but which are overcomes:
mic, heat (can be fixed by chil&vr like mod), comfort (requires 200gramms counter weight + fixing face cushion to adjust eye relief), i didnt like their motion compensatiob\n that kinda works but in its state its buggy, has artifacts and performance overall feels worse than in valve / pimax but its better than quest2 pcvr/hp g2 though) this and scanlines might be fixed in future
and finally what killed hmd for me:
i hate this stereo overlap issues, the image doesnt look comfort and in the middle black area always noticable, i was able to fix it by going min ipd but then get eye strain, i tried steamvr ipd offsets to spread rendered images but seems software at this stage isnt working yet for such an edge cases, on my native ipd (68.5) it doesnt look that bad but it feels that something is off and it’s main reason why it kills hmd for me, i have good experience with pimax full of caveats lenses but not with this
friend of mine got vp2 as well but his ipd is 62, so he has no stereo overlap issue and it seems it works better for lower ipd values
his vfov 96, hfov 116-117.3, mine 88 and 102, if i push hmd and have face pain due to plastic scratches my cheeks i have 92 and 110-114, but its unplayable for me in this state, i didnt get noticeble fov issues without pressing hmd with thin face foam and fov overall looks good but i have less than friend and he has clarity issues but they are ok not that worse as it was on vp1 default lenses but i have almost edge to edge clarity but overall due to stereo overlap and black middle zone it still looks off
another issue that killed hmd the second one is the god rays, omg i enjoy index and not distracted by it usually in any hmd but this …, some games look god rays free but once you open steam menu uh it shines everywhere and the worst thing is that when you move head the every image’s god rays rotate and this dynamic effect just creates too much distraction, friend also suffered from god rays but he still likes hmd and plans to use wireless
I didnt have any of issues with fov and clarity mentioned by Voodo and vfov for me doesnt cause issues but i can imagine how it looks if you see ~68vfov, also lenses look crisp for me but obviosly optics in vp2 cant accomodate multiple/many eyes / head shape cases as eg index or quest2 can.
But binoccular overlap just a curse of this hmd and despite vfov is ok for me but not cropped vfov would be better and this is a bad move by htc. Seems without Valve they have big issues with optics, if not the optics I could love the hmd especially considering wireless option
regarding sharpness, the thing has good sharpness but i think that combo of DSC + their diffuser to hide pixels (coz in g2 on white i easily see pixels quite clear and also in every othe hmd but vp2 i didnt try varjo) makes image too soft but indeed its somewhere around 8kx and g2, but honestly i like 8kx diffuser and sharpness more, it gives good performance in dirt rally 2, but Mura, optics and dimm/a bit muted colours (they still fine with 100%BB and reshade and -1 brightness on only green channel but with more brightness they could be better) + big weight of device limit 8kx potential i think. Also geo distortions in 8kx are okish but still noticable. Vp2 on other hand greatly reduces jagded edges and aliasing issues and desktop work on it looks very good if not the lenses issues though. I might try lenses mod if it will be available and distortion profile can be applied i would try default vp1 lenses on it as i like vp1 and dont use gearvr lenses and loose 3d effect and get distortions.
So 2 killer issues are all from lenses and HTCs poor R&D here, although i like how they did focus 3, design, metal alloy, weight distribution and battery in back of the strap. But they cant produce good lenses and keep doing same errors and dont listen to comminity/reviews. So much potential but it f…ed up badly. Also i dont get why vp1 got so many hate, maybe coz i tried it only in 2020 summer maybe they already got fixed all software issues by that time, i expected vp2 be same quality but with upped resolution and decresed blacks/colours levels. But they failed hard on the lenses.
