When are you going to send over a pimax 8kx to Ben?
I know and like Ben but wanted to hit some benchmarks before a large review pool is added. His recommendations from CES were excellent.
PS: We also are producing as many headsets as possible so we will add promotions as more capacity becomes available.
FYI this thread topic is the HTC Vive Pro 2 not Pimax plans so letâs try to keep it there. We will announce when the next rounds of review samples occur.
Ok. Really looking forward to his opinion. Although I think it will be pretty positive. Pimax has come a long way with the 8kx.
Yeah he was super positive at CES and suggested we try to hit 90Hz and release better audio than the SMAS. PS: He mentioned he wouldnât mention the 90Hz capability until it came out of beta.
I donât know how the Pimax COO can critique HTC when HTC are in a different league.
Pimax havenât got out of the Kickstarter phase yet. They have no base stations or controllers if their own. How can you review an incomplete package that relies on Valve and HTC?
Pimax have given no name Youtubers samples for review so how can they not find one unit for Road to VR? Pimax are in denial. Pimax donât want a respected reviewer with a large audience giving them a bad review so come out with lame excuses.
That is the reality for Pimax.
I guess we need to separate the arguments here: 1. they are not out of Kickstarter yet: looking at the headset, it is still high maintenance, with the difficult IPD setup required. Modules like the eye-tracker are clearly prototype stage gimmicks, not proper extensions yet. 2. not having controllers or base stations to me is not a prerequisite for being considered a proper product - after all, base stations and controllers are easily available on the market from other vendors. Any consumer buying the Vive Pro 2 isnât expected by HTC to purchase the Vive wands; they said that they didnât bother creating state-of-the-art VR consumer controllers because they assume the consumers will be content with buying Index controllers. So this to me is not a valid argument against Pimax.
Yeah, I raised an eye-brow too when I read that one - rather obviously a lame excuse, and I donât get it why one would even try. The truth is - and Kevin said so himself, so why try to obscure things here?! - that they know Ben will review the 8KX as it is and not sugar-coat its shortcomings; and for a non-enthusiast regular consumer he would likely not recommend this headset (neither would I). It is definitely not easy to use, itâs expensive, requires parallel projections on a number of games making it demand vastly more GPU on some games than competing headsets for the same quality graphics, etc⌠And apparently he also told them that e.g. not hitting 90 Hz, not having reasonably good audio would be cons in his book (for a device priced at the top range of consumer headsets) so they are working on improving these before getting him to review the 8KX to stand a chance of a review which doesnât sound too negative. After all, he rightfully will say that if you are asking for 1,300$ for the headset only, it needs to truly outperform its cheaper competition on some specs while at least meeting the established market standards on others.
I guess you didnât get to read my comment about that. Instead you are in the irrational zone when it comes to Pimax.
Also my comment did not critique HTC, I merely stated that the review Rain posted in this thread about is very similar to Ben and Voodooâs review - something I guess you also missed.
This was the sentence, directly after talking about why Ben has no sample yet, which at least for me sounded as if not having one to spare was part of the reason Ben didnât receive an 8KX yet. Thatâs why the response was how it was. Sometimes it would make sense to check the own statements first before jumping to conclusionsâŚ
I specifically pointed out Benâs criteria for including 90Hz in his review, it has to come out of beta first.
Did you skip reading that part?
The other part was related to overall review samples that it is not justified to do media promotions when you are already at capacity. Instead itâs best in this scenario to space them apart. Itâs not because we couldnât drum up a sample - it would just be silly to do so.
Well, as you clearly donât accept anything coming from some of the users here which have dared to ever be critical of Pimax, no matter if it was deserved or not, perhaps let your, say your wife read the passage and ask her how she reads that passage ? But I will leave this now for what it is, as I have seen enough of this kind of exchanges between you and users here. I marvel each time at the approach taken as an official spokes person but I have to give it you, you have found a truly unique approach I have never seen from anybody else in such a position.
Letâs embrace diversity and accept it to be just - different.
Moving on to more worthwhile exchanges. I am after all not getting paid to enter into arguments with the other party in customer dealingsâŚ
Hehehe. The Pimax COO making it again really hard to love Pimax. Some things will never change
Pimax like HTC cannot have there own LHea v2.0 as Valve made it so that only they are allowed to make them.
Cleaned up HTC VP2 topic as suggested by @PimaxUSA.
Maybe when they do send @benz145 an 8kX with 90hz native, DMAS; they can include the ET.
The thing is Pimax has released a product to the public and should be reviewed as a finished product in the same way VoodooDE reviewed the FOV of the Vive Pro.
So is the 8KX not a finished product? Is it still a prototype? Is it not good enough for mainstream reviewers?
HTC have finished products the VP2 and the Focus3 which while not perfect stand on their own. They have supplied all major outlets with units to be scrutinised for good or for bad.
Pimax are avoiding MRTV, RoadtoVR, UpliadVR and all the other major VR channels because theyâre scared of the outcome.
Just about everyone avoids âUpliadVRâ.
The 8kX itself is a finished product. The DMAS and controllers are accessories
Now if you mean by âunfinishedâ them working on adding new features like 90hz native? Well your right Valve, HTC and majority of other headset manufacturers rarely add new features to there headsets once released.
However you missed a variety pf major VR channels that have received the 8kX. And Kevin did explain what RdToVR is waiting for. Maybe he might explain why one of the Musketeers is still waiting; though it could be they want to send him something significant vs the not released yet model
I donât know if you missed it, but the 8kx was on VoodooDE months ago.
Well itâs been sold in retail for a while now and without any suggestions in the ads that it is in any type of prototype stage. Indeed, it has now even gone on sale in the Pimax store.
If itâs worthy of retail, itâs worthy of evaluation units being sent out. Especially to major influencers like RTVR
The 8KX has been out in the wild long enough now for there to have been plenty of impressions about its pros and cons. Whether or not some reviewers have received it or not really doesnât mean a whole lot at this point. It is an enthusiast priced headset and the majority of people who would be willing to spend this much on an HMD have likely already researched and read enough about it to know if they are willing to take a chance on it. I get the impression that some are actually anticipating and almost hoping for a negative review from certain reviewers in order to support their own position on it. I canât imagine that anyone on this forum is actually waiting on those reviews to make a decision on if they want to try it out or not.
I donât think that tbh. It is more that say both MRTV and RdToVR should have by this point had one for evaluation.
With MRTV for example it was presented that the release version if the 8kX addressed problems of the not Final 8kX he had for evaluation and that he would receive one and has not.
RdToVR - Ben had mentioned he would ne receiving one to evaluate and was impressed by what he had seen at CES 2019; though it seems this has been explained why there has been a delay on this to get 90hz properly working and to wait on the ever absent DMAS as we all know the Hyped SMAS was a complete let down. It would have been far better to have released the 8kX with the KDMAS or even dare I say a quality pair of earbuds like the psvr .
It would also help if pimax would stop dragging there feet and release an ipd wizard; though maybe there still waiting on the community to come up with one.
Which is something just about any hmd has on release not 3 years being absent still.
