HTC is back! Vive pro 2 with 2.5k * 2.5k per eye @ 120 hz

Oh nice. My Pimax was from last year and PE wasn’t really stable/polished enough for use so I’m still in the mindset of using pitool.

Seems like it’s much better now so I’ll start trying to use it. Looks like you can’t change the Refresh Rate (90/75/60) in there, or am I missing the option?

i wish that would be added too,but there been no more updates on PE.I dont know why?
@SweViver any news?

It’s under the “customize” section as far as I remember, but You can’t set it per game as that requires the headset to reboot causing PE to exit.

They might be working on a solution though, but I’m not sure (they mentioned it could be possible if they had a background daemon/service but not sure if it ever took off)…

On the Index it is always on. However due to the low amount of Canting compared to pimax and the low FoV it has very little performance impact

Are there several revisions of the panel? Because with my panel it’s really impossible to get the colors close to the vp2. My 8kx colors are quite bad while my vp2 colors are close to oled. If my 8kx would have those colors I would sell my vp2

I have a feeling there are some differences… My first 8kx had very bad mura…

My latest 8kx has way less mura(still somewhat ofcourse) And i do like the colors on 100% brightnes(backpanel) with -3 brightnes and +2 contrast… (still the colors are a tiny bit better on the pro 2)

I do like now (with the new alpha firmware) My 8kx better then the vive pro 2.
But also a little because off the huge culumn banding effect(vertical scanlines)i have on the vive pro 2.

Hmm pimax is known for making revisions so could be… My colors are really cold an washed out and when I pump up the contrast with even 1 I can see over saturation already.

i had that on the 5kplus,but not on this 8kx i must say…

It does look over saturated but it’s hard to tell from those photos

im very picky for colours and on 8kx 100 backlight with 0/0 contrast/brightness its much better than 5k + but still not that good as on others, i dont touch contrast in pitool as it crushes colours, dont get ppl which like it, it looks not natural, it can work for 1~2 scenes but in dynamic situation it never works good for me, however with reshade and index preset DCS and VRChat looks enough for me and dirt rally 2.0, unfortunately it doesnt work with FFR

You can adjust the coldness with separate RGB channels in pitool, try contrast and brightness +/- 1 for obly R or GB or mix of those it may help

also i got bad mura (8KX) from ama?on this month, if i dont mix i saw somewhere that hmd was manufactured 2020-11, as found bad mura is only in left display, i almost cant see it in right panel with left/right eyes, but its very prominent in left panel and together with rotation blurr it kills all the immersion in dcs, sky looks disgusting due to mura, if blur can be avoided by keeping your head still, mura is always there i almost liked the hmd but tha mura …

That is luckely much better with the latest alpha firmware

I can pump up the contrast then it’s not cold any more but just over saturated. I don’t like that at all. It does then look like your photo which is not good at all in my book. Like @Teigue says the colors get crushed. The pimax default setting is really the highest contrast setting without very notable saturation. I think that’s why they made it the default. If there was a better setting then why don’t they make that the default version

If the 8kx had better colors I would just sell my vp2.

Either way hoping to get my varjo finally today or Monday the latest!

But how does that picture look at the default settings… i like to know if there is a difference in the 8kx panels… Because my second 8kx is much better.

Honestly I never had that much mura on my 8kx. Its there but I only notice it when I look for it. Nothing like the bad mura we had on the StarVR. But the colors are just cold en washed out and when I crank up the contrast it becomes warmer but also oversaturated

i wish we could compare our 8kx…I dont fine them that cold… but it could be me ofcourse…
