[Progress Report Dec 3/2019]

Hi Community,

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement. We have prepared the following update. We are planning as stated to have more frequency in updating the community.

1. 8k+ - Delayed

  • Estimate Start Shipping no later than the end of Dec. 2019

Details:

The 8k+ experienced a slight delay with last minute changes to help ensure a quality launch.

2. 8kX - TBD

  • TBD

Details:

The 8kX is still in development. The engineering team will finish assembly some samples for testing this week. We will update the production plan according to test results next week.

3. Pimax Comfort Kit

  • Estimate start Shipping no later than end of Dec 2019.

Details:

  • Ships with 8k+ release.

4. Index Controllers & Light Houses - Delayed

  • Estimate early Jan 2020 starting shipping

Details:

We received Valve Index Controllers & Lighthouses in an OEM bulk shipment. As a result we have had to:

  • Design Consumer Packaging for items by Sku.
  • Test Controllers & Light houses to reduce chances of consumer receiving defects.
  • Assemble components for shipping to different regions (Power supplies & instructions)

Confirmed!! Half Life: Alyx will be receive with Index upgrade!

5. MAS (Standard) - Delayed

  • Estimate late Jan, 2020

Details:

We’ll ship the first 20 pcs for backers trial. then do mass production in late Jan.

6. MAS (Deluxe) - Delayed

  • Estimate Start shipping Mar 2020

Details:

  • Deluxe MAS design still being in development to ensure quality & comfort.

7. Silicon Protective Sleeve

  • Estimate Shipping Early Jan 2020

8. Next Pitool

  • Estimate release 13th of Dec 2019.

Preview Notes
  • Fixed compatibility issue with AMD 5700 & 5700XT.
  • Optimized picture stability on 3 dof-mode,
  • Added Potato Fov(tiny Fov)，
  • Fixed compatibility with some games,
  • 8kX Added Mode function to switch between Upscale Mode and DSC(native 4K) Mode
  • Fixed other bugs for Pitool.

[FLASH UPDATE Dec 3 2019]

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement. We have prepared the following update. Here is a quick update with new details on the following items.

1. 8K+ - Delayed

  • Estimate Start Shipping no later than the end of Dec. 2019

Details:

The 8k+ experienced a slight delay with last-minute changes to help ensure a quality launch.

Chinese Pioneer version：

  1. The first batch of 80 sets were shipped in mid-November for the Chinese packaged version. Based on the rapid logistics speed in China, users can get new products quickly. And provide Pimax with the latest and real user experience and feedback.

  2. The good news is that the Pioneer Version has good reviews in China. Most users are satisfied with the latest ergonomic design and comfort kit.

  1. However, some users have reported that the packaging still needs to be improved. We have improved packaging.
  1. Therefore, the overseas version will be produced and shipped this month!

2. 8KX - TBD

Details:

Hardware：

The cause for the instability of the V3 Prototype in the VR Days Berlin:

The cable was not the production version, it’s a sample provided by the supplier.

Since the cable was not a production version, we tried to manually change the power supply of the headset to match the cable.

However, it passed the pre-test in Shanghai, but there was an abnormal condition at the VR days.

Through our analysis, it is concluded that the instability is caused by the influence of different voltages.

V4 Prototype:

We will assemble the V4 Prototype this week, and it will be tested with the production cable.

We don’t need to change the circuit board manually, and we don’t think the same problem will occur in the V4 Prototype.

We will strengthen the voltage test to ensure that the problem is solved.

Software:

  • Upscale 90Hz：Till now, no problems found—RISK LOW
  • Native 75Hz：A lot of compatibility testing work is in progress—RISK LOW
  • Native 90Hz：We’re trying to tune 90Hz support in normal FOV (Not Guarantee)—RISK HIGH

8KX is currently the highest standard product in the industry.

It is a new challenge not only for Pimax and also for the whole industry.

We have the confidence to complete this challenge, and we hope you will give us more encouragement and confidence.

We will update you with accurate mass production and delivery time once we have a new milestone.

3. Pimax Comfort Kit - (On Schedule)

  • Estimate start Shipping no later than end of Dec 2019.

  • Ships with 8k+ release

4. Index Controllers & Light Houses - Delayed

Dear Pimax users,

May this holiday season be full of cheer and pleasant surprises. We are happy to announce shipping of 8K PLUS begins this Christmas! Index Controllers & Lighthouse Bundles also start shipping. We apologize for the delays. The shipping plan for Index Bundles is USA first, followed by Europe and then other regions.

Please contact us if your address needs to be updated.

The Silicone Protective sleeve will be also shipped out in early Jan, the grey ones are prior to back ones, other colors are later.

We will ship according to your order time; however due to the Christmas holiday season. Shipping services maybe on Holiday resulting in small delays receiving ordered items.

Tracking numbers will be emailed once available from logistics partners.

[Decembet 28, 2019]

Dear Futurists,

We have great progress on the 8KX V4 prototype so here are some additional details:

Hardware:
The V3 prototype was not stable at the VR Berlin expo. It was later determined that the root cause for the instability for the V3 Prototype was the cable wasn’t the production version and were constructed by hand by the supplier. Because the cable wasn’t a production version we attempted to manually alter the power supply of the headset to match the cable.

It passed preliminary testing but as a result of the power adjustments began suffering cumulative issues at VR days.

Through our analysis it was concluded that the instability was caused by the influence of forced voltages that operated out of the normal limits of some of the components.

V4 Prototype Progress:
Three weeks ago we assembled new V4 prototypes with a fully tooled production cable. We then completed a full bank of functional testing for the 8KX V4 prototype. The test units consisted of 5 system modules and 60 cases. All of our tested passed with no issues and the results were well beyond our expectations. These tests included all aspects of the device such as stability, stress, the new housing and more.

Software:
Upscale mode: 90Hz(guaranteed): Testing up to this point, no issues found - RISK LOW
Native mode: 75Hz(guaranteed): A great deal of testing is in progress - RISK LOW

The estimated shipping time of our December 3rd update was based on the V3 prototype but we have good news that the current round of V4 prototype testing has clearly exceeded our expectations. We will continue testing but the current expectation is a V5 version is likely not required and therefore the production schedule of the 8KX will go straight into mass production phase 1.

8KX is currently the highest specification in the VR industry. It is a new challenge not only for Pimax and also for the whole industry. We have the confidence to complete this challenge and we need your encouragement and support.

In a future update we will update you further with accurate mass production and delivery schedules once we have set a new milestone.
