5k+ backer or pre order?
5k+ backer ,
Then I’m not sure what is different from me to you. As I turn the ipd knob in Skyrim and I get no difference in scale. Like I noticed the lenses moving and I get the ipd on screen but that’s it. Must be a setting.
I’m starting to think I need to try normal fov as I’ve only ever tried large
It’s taking to long to boot into games and test. Does your scale change in steamvr home?
You need an ssdd.
Got several thx. Just he mentioned Skyrim and with 300+ mods it takes too long even on ssd
Okay I meant an Nvme ssdd. Lol. But yeah. Prices are at least coming down on these things. Soon HDs will br for backups only.
I tried it only in Skyrim because i’m most familiar with it, play almost every day and i turned SteamVR home off a while ago. Actually the more i played with various IPD settings the more i’m confused about what it does. It doesn’t seem to affect scale linearly like P4K… the less IPD i set the more fishbowl distortion i get and that makes things on sides appear tiny while scale in center remains almost the same. On largest IPD there is almost no fishbowl effect but everything is blurry in middle and all-around scale feels too large. There also seems to be variations based on distance, objects appear to be correct scale up close, then appear larger few meters away and then again appear correct at >10 meters. Effect is most apparent when looking at NPCs. I think i’ll just leave it at my real IPD because it feels most natural and doesn’t give me eye strain and tweak Skyrim world scale if needed.
Yeah that’s also what i watched. The resolution was so high. Any other videos with that level of quality that’s not NSFW?
Thats the only reason i bought an nvme m.2 for my modded Skyrim with 537 mods ~250 plugins and hundreds of merged plugins. And without “Alternate Start” and skipping the “playroom” due to .ini changes, (and offcourse using SKSEVR) It just goes like “snap”. Since i have it i had so many quick comparison tests between PiTool settings and Steam VR SS and .ini changes and SmartSmoothing on/off tests. I didn’t want to do it before, because it took too long with my former SSD and you even had to restart SteamVR all the time. But now its pretty sleek.
edit: quickly changing the weather mod / ENB setup to compare the look and performance its just
about 2 minutes now including MO2 changes and file swapping.
edit 2: and for the modded SE version its even better, because there i have mostly 2-4K textures installed. That takes a while to load up. The VR version is pretty fine with 1-2k textures since they get supersampled anyways.
I Just changed fVrScale in the Skyrimprefs.ini too here. For me the perfect value is 75, since my height is 1.90m (or 74,8 inches i think). turning the ipd knob not exactly to my natural ipd which is 30.5 right and 32 left, that would be 62.5 But since my face symmetries aren’t really symmetric, i turn it somewhere close to 62 and everything looks fine. Right eye sometimes is a bit more blurry offcourse.
Agree 100% , Vive pro Is more confortable
Just want to keep momentum going on this topic as it seems I’m not the only one that has noticed world scale being incorrect. It does seem that I’m more irritated than most by it.
It got me thinking, and if I was to guess that world scale is about 10-15% bigger than other hmds that I’ve tried which is a lot. Then wouldn’t people’s measurements of the fov also be out. I know that people have measured the fov using the steamvr home environment. So 10-15% bigger world scale must calculate to atleast a 10degree difference in fov. So are we looking at a hmd that is 180fov or even 190fov?
World scale has no effect on actual fov.
If you in the real world step into a house that has everything 20% larger, does it mean that your fov changed by 20%? No, your eyes are still the same.
Best way to illustrate this is in Skyrim VR or Fallout VR where you can change world scale directly using a slider. Keep in mind it also incorrectly raises or lowers your height though, so it’s not quite the best example of world scale manipulation. Your height shouldn’t change.
My issue is that scale doesn’t seem to be consistent. While i got used to everything appearing a bit larger, my main problem is that object scale seems to vary depending on distance. Between 0.5-5 meters away it’s most apparent. These are also distances where i notice fishbowl (pincushion?) distortion most (flat objects like doors appear dented like some giant fist punched them). This doesn’t bother me in simulations because things usually happen in distance, but i still can’t get used to it in Skyrim. Positioning headset further from face helps with this a bit but then edge warping moves more towards center and i find that even more distracting.
Maybe Pimax could give us more distortion profiles that are based on different eye-lens distances and option to offset scale if possible.
That only changes your height but not worldscale. If you set it higher than your real height you will no longer be able to touch virtual floor because your real floor will get in the way and with smaller height you will touch virtual floor before touching real floor.
To change worldscale in Skyrim this line needs to be added to SkyrimCustom.ini file:
fVrScale=69.9912
The higher the value the smaller the scale.
Im with you here.
I see what your saying, but if I made the world as small as a mouse would I not see more of the scale measurements. I know your fov does not change with scale but the way you measure it in vr does. So what I’m saying is rather than increasing fov there would be a more accurate reading. But on Skyrim the ingame slider is only for height. You have to go the ini file and change fscale I think it is
This may be game dependent. In Elite Dangerous, the scale feels pretty close (perhaps a little on the smallish size). This is based on the size of the cockpit chair and where your arms and hands appear. The cockpit itself feels huge, but it is quite big, compared to the pilot chair.
Well all my scale is normal now. Steamvr menu is now the same scale as the vive(was about 10% to 20% bigger if I had to guess). And I haven’t a clue what did. I undone all settings. Jumped back from 111 beta to 109, change steamvr to non beta. All Nvidia settings changed. But I can’t get the scale to go back to bigger to let you guys know why
The only thing I did that I can’t adjust is I got a new 5k+ that my friend bought through me and I plugged that into the same sockets as mine just to test his. Then plugged mine back in.
Anyway I’m so happy with the pimax now. Wish I knew what happened just in case anyone suffers from this world scale issue.
