World scale too big

I also notice my nose is not aligned in the nose slot sometimes. It’s just so easy to miss align the hmd.

There are also very few people that have balanced ipd. eg 32 left and 32 right = 64. Despite looking more or less symmetrical, human faces tend to be pretty messed up when it comes to perfection. my ipd consists of 32 left and 30.5 right. I did a Professional measurement @ the optician. My nose is more like a frontal rocky mountain kinda thing and overall my face is pretty narrow. So if an asian company is building a VR headset, maybe i shouldn’t buy it. But tbh, i’m pretty happy with the Pimax. I’m not more prone to vr sickness than with the vive, (rather less). But i worked around all of my facial shortcomings with a 18mm foam. That helped a lot. Right eye still sees rather blurry, when i found my sweetspot with both eyes. So i guess my left eye is also the dominant one.

My experience with a too large world is that it is noticable in games but not too bad. Good to see there is room for improvement there.

The only real issue I have is watching 360 or 180 video footage. 180 VR Porn doesn’t wrap around well and when I push the image further away to get the scale of the artist correct then I have pushed it so far ahead that the entire black outer bounds are in view at the sides and above and below, so it’s like looking through a hole… at a hole. Holeception, if you will.

But I also bought a 360 and 180VR camera for (family friendly) home videos and that’s where I can compare the footage best with my real world experience. That’s actually where I’m bothered by it most because I want a perfect virtual recreation of the scenes I capture and the scale difference is inhibiting that.

I’m not sure if the Pimax 4K or Vive give a natively better result, will have to check that later this week.

The world scale to me is “too small world” making me too big in relation to the scene ie skyrim , standout and more , I guess it must be game related

I’ve noticed the same issue with VR movies. The close up scenes have rather poor overlap like they were filmed with a much larger IPD than what I am using so I get double image.

I’m not sure if this is due to the limitation of filming with a fixed point of view or a short-coming of the headset.

Yes the world scale must be ipd related , I am 68mm
explains why some people are more comfortable with lowering ipd by 3mm

After minimizing pincushion distortion in the center with better placement i think that scale is more or less ok now. I returned Skyrim world scale to default and it feels fine to me.

I just realized that if i set my real IPD (66) from higher values instead from lower how i was doing until now, because it gave me more nose room, scaling in all games becomes spot on, just as i remember from my P4k. Basically use the looseness of IPD wheel to fine tune world scale to what feels correct while maintaining software IPD that matches your real IPD value. This also almost completely removed pincushion distortion in the center that bothered me the most to the point that i don’t really notice it anymore and increased sharpness in middle.

Must be something wrong with my hmd cause world scale won’t change with ipd

THIS. Everytime. I put my controllers on the floor to check cause I feel like I’m way higher than I should be…

I tried many 180 videos, all were fine. In fact, better than fine. 5k videos looked REALLY good

I should make a thread about suggested high quality 180 videos

I tried a 3D movie in Bigscreen yesterday. (Edge of Tomorrow) Very happy with the FOV there and the SDE was very workable. I’m still looking forward for my 8K to be delivered bacause that’s said to be even better for movies.

But I have a Pimax 4K and I really think the image quality doesn’t get any better than that. Haven’t tried any Odyssee+ or anything.

What do you mean here? 5K source res? Or in the 5K headset?

5k source resolution, from a “specific” website lol

But i’m looking for more PG 5k resolution content, but can’t find any

I notice cubes are larger in beatsaber, I can score better now on accuracy but it is harder to get the full swing compare to vive…LOL

stripzVR produces 5k res and they have some pretty good lap dance videos…

That would come pretty close and that’s another issue with this headset, when bulgy bits come close to your face the image becomes seperated and seems not to converge how hard I even try

Not sure if you are describing what I had before, that is when I use a thick foam, I can see both lenses with one eye and also the gap in-between, makes things hard to focus for me. I have a low ipd and things are better now with a 6mm foam.

I see. No I’m not talking about the same thing then. My eyes are far behind my nose ridge so that is not an issue for me :nose:

For me it’s like 80-120% difference across IPD range. When i stand and look forward in Skyrim at 60 IPD it feels like ground is at my knee level and on 71 it feels i’m floating half a meter above. Difference is much less apparent in the middle. But the thing is that you can set your IPD at the same reported software value and get visibly different results depending on ‘direction’ that you adjust it from.

I use simple vr video player, the stereo separation setting can adjust scale without changing view distance.

I will try that maybe tonight, I used the option in Virtual Desktop to play 180VR vids but the settings are limited indeed.

Simple VR Player is better in terms of settings but I have to disconnect my HOTAS joystick or all menus drop into the abyss. (Took me some time to find that cause)
