World scale too big

my wife who also tried it said she feel sick to her stomach because the scale is so off to her normal vision, she can’t wear the pimax goggle longer than 5 mins without wanting to throwup because she said she feel like she all the sudden become a giant

Then definitely don’t let her checkout Hellblade in different world scale options it has.

I felt the world was bigger as well, in SteamVR home and contractors. The gun and hands and such were just too big. I wonder if this is one of the ways they improved text legibility on the PiMax, they just made everything larger?! Scale certainly isn’t right for me in what I tried initially.

@anon74848233 @Matthew.Xu @deletedpimaxrep1 Please add a world scale slider in PiTool. The immersion is much better when the world scale is equal or lower than real life. But if the world scale is larger than real life, it breaks the immersion. This feature has also the potential to add tabletop perspective to any game.

@Decapper I remember being able to set this back when I was using OSVR. I found this while trying to see if was done in OSVR or StreamVR. Of course this wouldn’t be ideal if someone had multiple headsets, but it might be worth looking into.

Scale is relate to the speed of rotation, if it is too small, it will move faster and render more image in the HMD.

The screens can only render the same amount no matter the scale.

Great find. As one guy points out in the below quotes about iPd. I’m sure this is the problem

It doesn’t actually impact the world scale, just your binocular perception of scale, so there’s no issue with tracking. If you close one eye everything will appear normal scale because the distances between objects haven’t changed (nor their scales), only the distance between your VR “eyes.”

Basically your brain gets both scale and depth cues from how different the images your two eyes receive are. An object that’s small and very close will produce very different images in each eye because you are seeing it from two different angles. A very large object that’s far away will be basically identical to each eye. It effectively generates a limited 3D map of whatever you look at which results in a sense of scale.

Your brain is used to your real-world IPD, so changing it to something else makes you feel like the world is larger or smaller – but you will still have to move the same distance to move through the space (and you will not be any taller or shorter).

I tried adjusting ipd in the steamvr settings file but it had no impact. Anyone know how to adjust pimax software ipd?

I haven’t tried it but there is an hmd.json file in pimax\runtime\

I found a couple .json files in the ‘Runtime’ folder that reference the ‘ipd/lense’, these may be changed and saved when adjusting the IPD knob, but might be what we’re looking for. I plan to make a backup of these and try myself, but it’s getting late here.

Tried these and had no eff3ct for me

That’s sounds the world scale is smaller than reality for your wife. @davidwanj

I was hoping that would work, luckily this isn’t noticeable in many games, but hopefully we find a solution(or Pimax implements one).

I think the scale being off also causes some eye strain , If i use +1 reading glasses the image is slightly magnified and I get no more eye strain ,
This could be because I use +1.5 reading glasses to focus on close items but the lack of glasses in the vive pro just makes the focus poor and does not cause eye strain .
I think the world scale being slightly off sometimes causes some brain (eye) strain.

@Sean.Huang is it possible to change ipd software? Or even world scale? Maybe in config file?

There is definitely some fine tuning required to make the images more comfortable for my eyes , this is probably subjective and I seem to be quiet sensitive ,for example I cannot use the vive pro with gear-vr lens without eye strain ,the pimax 5k+ causes me no eye strain with +1 reading glasses but there is something not quite spot on about the image ,
I have tried everything inc face masks /ipd/angle /height etc
It’s not a big deal but the image is not quite as comfortable as the vive pro for me.
I have no doubt that the Pimax engineers are improving the distortion files all the time ,
I would be a good idea to give some more advanced options in pi-tools like world scale adjust , and maybe ipd adjustment without physically moving the lens

When I feel like I’m getting I strain it’s normally in the right eye. If I close my left eye while still look at whatever when strain happened I find it’s blurry in my right eye. I have to in fact move the headset to the left sometimes just so both eyes are in the correct spot. Small sweat spot and different face shapes make it incredibly hard for manufacturers, and I’m sure a good reason why other companies have not done it yet.

I agree , I have just ordered some +.5 and +.75 strength reading glasses to test , see if it provides a more comfortable experience .
Pimax should give us as many adjusting possibilities as possible in pitools , of course with a big default tab

Due to the way the headset is designed it is basically impossible to have the clear image in both eyes at the same spot with the correct IPD setting (https://community.openmr.ai/t/clarifying-near-ipd-x-distant-ipd-confusion/14809). I would guess your left eye is the dominant one and when you use your headset you unconsciously turn your head to the right to keep your left eye image clear. (By turning your head to the right, you align your left eye view with the optical center of the left lens and get the clear picture).

Then your right eye struggles because it gets the distorted picture and this discrepancy eventually triggers the eye strain or the felling something is wrong, because you cannot get the clear picture at in the both eyes and the left eye “wins”.
