Did anyone blink?

Tariffs for China now at 125% lol

Everyone else has a 90 days pause.

Omg haha, that is actually insane to think about!

It’s honestly getting funny at this stage, it’s just so absurd that it’s comical. Pretty glad I’m here in Ireland ha, feeling bad for our friends in the US especially if they didn’t vote for this. Not to get political, it’s just so mental at this stage that I don’t think anyone could be on board.

In the real world I work for a multi billion dollar revenue Taiwanese sporting goods manufacturing company with factories in Taiwan, China and Vietnam.

Thankfully the US is a smaller part of the group sales so I expect a big push in other sales territories like EU, Asia and Australasia

Very strange times, I’m glad I’m happy with my GPU and headsets

The effect this escalation directly between the US and China will have on other markets is super interesting.

For EU consumers this will most likely mean severe drops in prices for close to all goods manufactured in China because that volume needs to be directed somewhere and 700million+ consumers is a huge market.

For EU producers on the other hand, this will mean a sharp drop in margins due to a) US exports becoming more expensive due to tariffs and risk and b) severe price competition within the home markets.

Which will in turn put a lot of pressure on EU China trade policies with, in this case, a better negotiating position for the EU.

What effect this will have on geopolitical developments including Russia’s war on Ukraine supported by China as well as China’s ambition to most likely at least blockade Taiwan within the next 3 years will be morbidly fascinating.

Sure, one can consider it fascinating - if we had a save game to go back when things were still somewhat sane and the plot to weaken the dominant Western block was not in full action and blossoming beyond expectation yet.

They tried to fight the hegemony for decades from the outside - when all they needed was some neat social engineering of public opinions & elections on the grand scale to place their unsuspecting narcist puppet and let it play wrecking ball from the inside.

Cunning plan, works perfectly so far.

This whole tax war charade won’t last too long though, it’s burning money for too many companies. Agent Orange & friends want to fill up their pockets with the predictable stock exchange movements whose timing they control. They can be done within days, then they declare it over and everything normalizes, just that many stock owners lost a lot of money and some privy to information on the timing of events earned a(nother) fortune. The SEC will look away of course, their rules no longer apply to the king of the USA.

But let’s get back to VR, too depressing to look at this for more than a couple of minutes a day.

Another day another Tariff for China. 145%!!!

I really feel bad for Pimax because they’ve done a good job with the Super.

These US tariffs are ridiculous and where will it end?

Wouldn’t be surprised if this is an acceleration of the ongoing demise of Pax Americana

All empires have their time, as a British citizen we’ve seen our Empire fade, America.is next as Asia rises again

I see the collapse of the human race. When the planet has grown on Oil and zero birth control it’s a stack of cards waiting to collapse.

The collapse comes when technology can do all the jobs a human can do and that’s getting closer and closer every year.

China will be the first to go because they are the biggest manufacturer with the biggest population to feed. When unemployment reaches breaking point we’ll see a population implosion. Humans will be worth less than machines.

No country wants to slow down, they all want domination and the egotistical politicians will say anything to keep themselves at the top regardless of how the population shrinks.

When the population collapses oil becomes worthless and all the countries that live off oil collapse.

I certainly think my kids will see the beginning of the collapse in 40-70 years time.

So watch Chinas unemployment rate, the spiral starts there.

Seems like not that bad.

We also need to be sure we know what Tarrifs are applied to what and when

Canada for example allows up to X imports of US Milk at no Tarrif or a small one. The was it 170%? Only gets applied to the quantity after X. To which no one has even come close to nearing the quota limit.

So Pimax are going to ship all the parts to the US and assemble them there. That equals extra cost and the price of assembly is going to be at US employment rates not Chinas. So the price of US assembled Headsets is going to be higher. Also importing the parts from China is going to be still there.

I see a Pimax headsets having the same difficulties at Somnium when assembling units outside of China.

Which ever way you look at it it’s enough to tank Pimax because the US and CES is a big part of Pimaxes Market.

Competition is bad enough without tariffs but this will probably push Pimax over the edge.

I don’t think the fine details matter. If they can pull this off & remain profitable; it is a good thing

As for the manufacture plant in Delaware? Well it has only been mentioned as an idea. So still aways away for that. As for Labour cost difference the Labour cost per headset will still be doable to augment costs. They don’t need to produce an excessive volume for the world. They only need to produce enough to help supply the US & Maybe Canada. Though with the Tradewars it might still be cheaper to supply Canada from China.

I disagree, the 12k will finally be released and it will be so immersive that the entire human population will be given one and that will settle things out. AI and robots will take over the world but we’ll live happily enough in VRChat and Rec Room. The culture wars will be between which app you reside in, with the great DDOS attack of 2049 on the paintball game mode of Rec Room kicking off world war 3. World war 3 may sound alarming but it will be fought by lads pretending to be furry women so it doesn’t really have any sort of impact anyway.

Thankfully we’re on the ground floor for the 12K so all of us here will be in positions of great power, known as admins, although the “great power” is entirely in our heads of course but sure it’s VR so that makes whatever is in your head as good as real.

Well, that will be the conundrum for the generation my kids are part of.

Yes, at first we will see the replacement of many jobs by computers/machines. However, the vast majority of industry capacity is aimed at producing something which is consumed by the masses of humans on this planet.

So if you remove humans from the development & production part, you still need them as customers. However, if most of them are piss-poor due to be unemployed, demand craters big time, and all that great increase in efficiency in producing is pointless if there is hardly anybody left to spend money on your products.

And in addition you risk creating an angry mob who will vote for extreme positions to e.g. make these production facilities be state owned to hand out the products at much lower cost/for free to the citizens (that is, if you still have elections, which for the US may be a thing of the past).
But here unfortunately we have to assume that with this high level of application of AI there will be sophisticated means to steer public perception controlled by those in power & owning the production means, so perhaps no angry mob; or the anger is engineerd to be re-directed at [choose one or more: foreigners/migrants, races, women, parents, blue-eyed, red haired,…].

So even if they control the public perception, they still have the issue to solve in how to allow the masses to posses sufficient funds to continue to function as customers.

UBI, we all know it’s inevitable.

That is, either WW3 with a large culling or UBI.

I’ve also heard people who have shipments coming on to the US and face massive tariffs that could put them out of business because the tariffs cost more than the goods.

At least Trump has backed down once again and now excludes Smart Phones and computer equipment. I’m not sure it pimax can include VR headsets as computer equipment or if its strictly computer component.

It’s the biggest shambles in US History and trumps is cashing in while playing golf. He’s the worlds biggest clown act along with the rest of his cabinet.

I’m not sure who would order a Pimax headset from China if they don’t know what the final price is going to be. OK Pimax lowers the price to say $800 but then add 145% Tax and you’re paying a whopping $1160 in Tax.

Theres no way around this for Pimax. Even if Pimax ship the parts surely the parts will be taxed at 145% and then if assembled in the US the labour costs are much higher.

As far as I can see it the US market is dead for Pimax which must account for a huge chunk of Pimax sales.

As soon as China looks for loopholes you can best the Trump foundation will be all over it.

Even if Pimax could ship its whole company to the US manufacturing costs would be so much higher which would push up the end price 30% at a time BSB2 is racing away.
