VR News for 2025

Well maybe Pimax are off the hook. Trump has caved in to the tech giants and now a list of exemptions has been released. One of them computer monitors. Maybe Pimax can argure the VR device is a monitor that you wear.

Pimax released a statement like 2 days ago covering the specific tariff costs they will be applying: Pimax's measures to mitigate the impact of the US tariffs

When a MR forum turns into a political one, with publicly insulting politics & discussing related topics. Visiting here to check some VR related stuff, instead reading about “clowns”, “shambles”

Is it really a VR news?

What a disgusting place it starts to be …

You would create a separate topic & discuss all that stuff in there, like tariffs / Trump presidency etc? So we, the ppl who aren’t interested in that agenda may stay away from all that negativity / insulting & politic please.

I know and it doesn’t make sense.

Let’s get one thing out there. The customer will pay the tariffs and last time I looked and I posted here in the cart they give a basic tax figure. Only when you pay do you get the real figure.

The fact remains if Pimax charge $1000 to your card then expect a tax bill of $1250 when it arrives.

If Pimax can get around tariffs then every company in China will be doing the same thing.

Great news, VR headsets are exempt from the tariffs: Trump Exempts Electronics, Including VR Headsets, From Tariffs

Yeah Pimax will be breathing a sigh of relief for now but as we know things change from day to day.

Trump parades himself as Art of the deal yet he climbs down and backtracks on everything he says he’s getting tuff on. Businesses around the world are getting wrecked and he changes his mind within hours or days making himself look like a clown. His MAGA policy Islington’s tatters because he failing to deliver for the American people.

But as things are back to normal I have no need to talk about Trump.

I just really burst out into a loud laugh - it’s tough to even try to imagine how somebody can feel that it is not okay to insult Trump but what he does (constant & blatant lying, abuse of power for self-provisioning, disregard of the constitutional pillars of US society, threatening, general disgust towards human decency and style, and the list goes on and on) is sort of okay on any level conceivable - but you learn something new every day…

But in general I agree, let’s leave politics out of a Pimax forum. Having said this, this doesn’t mean that users won’t occasionally speak out on the effect politics have on the purchase of Pimax headsets, as it was the case here, and may also comment, if the reason behind the sudden & steep price increase would be attributable to a politician who acts against the usual standards and destabilizes i.a. the still pretty vulnerable VR ecosystem by that.

TLDR; yes to not discussing politics in general here, but a firm no against subduing criticism of certain politicians who negatively affect the users in their VR hobby.

Maybe keep insults at bay. Though Haven’t imho seen anything that is overly insulting imho or going on political rants. Discussing how these unnecessary Tarrifs affect computers & VR is quite relevant especially if you’re a US citizen.

Personally I am glad Trump is back pedalling on his rash blanket statements on Tarrifs. Trade wars hurts consumers.

VR Tarrif related discussions are going on in most VR communities $ VR news media as a result.

I found this on FB and it is something definitely needed in places as toxic as Reddit often is.

Now that is not to say. Not express opinions that differ or if you simply want to let off steam at times. Just keep it neutral.

I 100% agree with @Teigue. Can we please leave politics out of this forum. Discussing politics is like discussing religion anyway, zero chance of reaching some kind of compromis between opposing views and it will only result in fighting anyway.

So the latest AVP2 leak actually DOES suggest apple is going to make the headset lighter: Apple Vision Pro 2 Reportedly Cheaper & Lighter, Mac-Tethered Headset Coming Too

Yeah, I’m surprised as I expected it to just be the same body etc with upgraded internals. This is exciting news though, I wonder if they will get rid of the eyesight feature (if that’s what the call it)? I find it doesn’t work half the time for me when I ask people can they see my eyes. It’s a good idea in some ways and if it didn’t add cost/weight then I would say why not have it but realistically I think the benefit of it is very much outweighed by the negative, but that will be a personal opinion of course.

They also have leaked a tethered headset just for macs, that in particular is interesting as a productivity device. I’m guessing all the usual media outlets that were screaming about the failure of AVP because production had ceased (as is normal when you have another product coming soon enough), will just ignore that they said any of that stuff about apple abandoning the space. I’m guessing the cycle will be similar for this next gen tbh, I don’t think it will really catch on until gen 3 unless they have managed to seriously knock down the price on gen 2. I think it’s fine for another gen or 2 to be niche anyway, they are still building out the platform and content so better to just have enthusiasts getting on board for now.

Haha yeah that eye sight feature in its current form is pretty useless and the headset would have been better (lighter) without it. I understand the idea behind it and it does make sense but like you said, when it adds that much weight the downside outweighs the benefit, even more so if it doesn’t work like it should.

And yeah, totally agreed, the avp2 will still be a enthusiast-only headset. Maybe if prices have come down enough that the avp3 will be aimed at a bigger audience.

I think to make it work will take 4 years of building plants in America and another 2 years to feel the effect in the economy. What can go wrong in 6 years. :frowning_with_open_mouth:

Sure just grow them!

In VR News right now, seems like some images are leaking of Vision Pro’s successor’s cable:

Interesting that the battery side would be changed, perhaps a bit more power draw for the M5 chip? These might not be real of course but it would be a weird thing to fake and looks pretty legit. If this is the case then I think we might be getting close to an announcement. I think it was June 2023 that AVP was announced so about 2 years later seems a good time to announce it, I also think it will likely release sooner like October or so rather than the Feb slot that the AVP1 was pushed to.

Edit: Oh wait, that’s a normal lightning cable beside it. Nevermind ha, I thought it was the AVP1 cable but it just looks like the same style now.
