That Skarredghost…
I ordered the Super Today. I need a bigger fov and the ability to fit glasses and do not use LHs anymore, apart from that it looks like a very good HMD for all my simulators. I made 1 $ reservation a year ago but not sure if they will honor that. I’ll share my opinion on that forum if I get it relatively soon.
BTW. IMHO with this new upcoming 3 HMDs, a Somnium VR1 has no sense on the market, especially with that high price.
I can understand this choice. I also have difficulties convincing myself to choose a 1,5k-2,5k headset if it only offers the standard FoV, no matter how great the acuity, colors etc, are.
However, I still will wait to see what the Deckard offers, although it‘s verly likely not going to really compete in this level. By that time I hope that Pimax have ironed out a number of early production kinks they usually suffer from.
Nevertheless there is hope that the Super is relatively well on its way, a number of parts will have been taken from the Crystal despite the difference in size because one can suspect that there was a lot of unused space in the Crystal housing due to it being designed originally for the 12k. So it should be a bit more mature than the og Crystal was at release.
Good luck, pls keep us informed!
So the Tariffs have hit and hit China more than any other country. This is bad news for Pimax as all HMDs shipped to the US will jump 25% overnight or more.
The fallout continues today.
Tom’s hardware reporting prices increasing on PC parts which contain any aluminium including pc cases and GPU
Not good indeed. Pimax Prime will help though with it only impacting the “Base Headset up front price”.
I don’t find it very probable this is going to stop at physical goods only.
Maybe there is a way like paying only $100 upfront and collect $100 every month for 16 months?
Probably not as the EU pressured Valve to remove gifting titles between regions. So now we buy game keys instead to gift friends as Keys are not region restricted yet.
So things went from bad to worse. Chinas Tartifs rocketed to 104%
When and how are Pimax going to respond. I’m in the EU so can’t see US prices. But so far prices are the same.
So I think Pimax are aren’t being upfront about the hike. In the cart you get a base line TAX estimate but you only get told the real numbers after you place your order.
So the question now is will a Pimax Super at $1000 with 104% tax now cost $2040? That excludes the Prime Membefship which is another $700.
Ouch.
I really think anyone in the US looking at the options will buy BSB 2 now and pay no tariffs.
I think anybody in their sane mind will simply wait this one out.
If you don’t either need it for your business or just don’t care about money anyhow because every drawer you open at your estate spills out money bundles to the degree you’re sick of their sight, you will just sit back and let this poor man’s poker game move of the spitting image of a president pass.
It just sucks for the affected companies because they might not be in a financial position to suck up the cashflow effects of no foreign business for 6-12 months until the dust has settled. And some may be, but will see their window of opportunity sail away because in 8 months i.a. the Deckard will likely enter the scene and may change the game a bit.
Pimax probably still have some considerable Chinese business and are not directly competing with the Deckard anyhow, so I guess they will be able to cope with it.
I think most here are not even from the US, so not much difference for us. But yeah, people in the US have ‘interesting times’ coming for sure. With 104% coming up and now Kevin O’leary calling for 400% tariff on China … But then again, it’s also possible a deal will be made and it will come down to 0%.
AVP2 rumored to be in mass production as we speak: https://www.macrumors.com/2025/04/08/vision-pro-2-now-in-production/
I might even buy it again LOL, depending on the competition. But if they fixed the weak points (especially the weight), this might be a VERY difficult headset to beat for the competition. We’ll have to see about all that of course.
Supposedly official controller support is coming up in june/july so that would already tackle one of the biggest downsides of the AVP. Then a streamlined version with substantially less weight and even way more powerful chip could really become interesting. Still, it won’t be a main stream device of course, I guess that’s the target for a couple of years later on when the hardware has become much cheaper.
Hopefully the AVP2 won’t just be a chip update, like the article above suggests, that would be a bummer …
I came across this.
It’s kinda funny when tariffs are meant to bring manufacturing back to the US and Meta thinks it’s better to set up in a third country and pay tariffs instead…
All pain and no gain.
Has any company started reflecting the tariffs yet? It’s changing on a near hourly basis, the whole thing is a mess. If I was a company I would be pausing all shipments to the US for the next couple of weeks and waiting to see what happens before progressing with orders.
I’ve seen a few people online already complaining about Pimax with the tariffs but I don’t see how they could be expected to be reacting so quickly, the whole thing is a mess. I haven’t seen anyone updating their prices yet because you might well be changing it later that same day.
Absolutely mess the whole thing is.
What makes you think the BSB2 won’t have tariffs? It’s assembled in the US but still made from Chinese, and other non-us, components. So mighy not be hit as bad as Pimax but they absolutely will have to pass on the tariff cost to customers, I’m guessing the first batches will already all be in the US so at least those will avoid it.
Afaik the EU is a bigger market for Pimax than the US, I might be wrong about that but at least they aren’t totally dependent on the US or anything. Any smart company would be focusing on other markets as much as possible right now.
Yeah the US slaps parts from China with 104% tax and then China slaps the US with another 84% on BSB2 Imports! How much does a BSB cost in China? I have no idea lol.
