Let’s talk about this.i will read every post in this topic and answer questions.we have already collecting suggestions from backers and discussing very seriously.
I am a backer who has been waiting 16 months and I still don’t have a tracking number. Based on this alone I would not recommend Pimax to friends and family.
@anon74848233 great to hear cables etc will be on amazon, but how can i buy one now as have lots of flashing pixels but cant get them on photo or video with my equipment so would just pay for one to save the hasstle of delays with support, but playing onward with the pixels flashing is impossible as my eyes are all over the place
@anon74848233 I can only suggest a possible upgrade to the couple of current Vive owners I know that like the experiment.
The Oculus and non-VR user cannot be advised to buy. The ecosystem is incomplete and there is no real prospect of it becoming so soon, until controllers and base station are actually shipping it is a total no go.
I never, ever use Pre-Orders and actively tell others not to either. Especially with the constant date slips we have experienced, I will not do that to my friends.
With only 23% that would definitely recommend the pimax to others one could say that this is not a very succesful project. And it would have been so easy to improve things, just some better quality control and offering some more shipping choices like fedex/dhl would have improved things so much. Which all have been suggested over and over again, by the way. I really don’t understand why pimax does things like it does them, most of the time.
Do you enjoy/are glad to have your Pimax? and Would you recommend it as a consumer purchase? are two very different questions.
Only one was asked here.
It is normal for a support forum to be more negative as the people who experience problems are better represented.
Also if you look at the thread the motivation for negative votes is not always adequate. Continuously bashing Pimax for issues outside of their control or for growth problems is pointless and only pollutes the discussion.
The negativity here feels somewhat magnified, I hope the Pimax employees who deal with all of this do not take it personally and know that there is a very big group of backers who enjoy their headset and are thankful to pimax for pushing VR forward. Those backers are less visible as they simply enjoy playing and are not interested in spamming the forums
I totaly agree with you. That’s the point, the people hwo are happy with the pimax don’t waste time on this forum. Pimax is a awesome device and there isn’t anything near as good as pimax on the market. can’t wait for the 8KX to to see nativ 2x4k. That will be a huge gamechanger
Well that really depends on what you value in a HMD. Sure if FoV is your main thing, then the Pimaxes are unbeatable. But if you care about SDE then the Odyssey+ is the easy winner. And it seems the new gen 2kx2k OLED panels are almost ready for mass production and several companies seem to be planning a new gen HMD with these panels for this year. So competition will step up quite soon.
Yes, but the Pimax 8KX is already in the line, as the head of Pimax USA said he will expect it in Q3 or Q4 this year, so the other companys have to catch up again. At the moment pimax is always a step ahead.
Yes and no, telling that the 5k+ is finish and polished product is not true so be this negative yes, but 5k+ is a great innovation FOV related and this was one of the main objective of KS campaign so yes this is a successful project because most backers will be happy when they have a working unit. And once again people are misinterpreting the goal of a KS. It’s not to have a finish product but to help someone develop and get to market something and in return get a reward not a product. I blame KS for been deliberately unclear about this now. Do I recommand the 5k+ 8k now no, but Pimax if they continue is on the path to produce something very interesting in the interation and they deserve great praise for that… the campaign is not finished!
But that’s not using a full RGB strip, like those new panels have. In fact, people still can see pixels on the 8k (and thus also on the 8kx), while I’m pretty sure that on this new gen panels you won’t be seeing any at all. While at the same time you’ll be needing a much more powerful GPU on the pimax 8kx.
I have been using Vive and Vive Pro for 2,5 years now. And since I have gotten the 5k (a month and a half) the VivePro sits in the corner disconnected. But I’m not packing it because if I want to show VR to somebody for the first time I use the Vive Pro.Because I pretty much know what they will see. Maybe it will be a little blurry if the IPD is incorrect, but it is a small problem compared to the issues the incorrect IPD or the cushion thickness can create with the 5k.
So right now my 5k is perfectly tailored to my needs and is providing me with experience better than the Vive Pro, hence I accept is as the best HMD on the market. The problem is that it requires this higher level of personalization which adds some limitations. For example I do not believe it is a good option for Beat Saber parties or similar where their headsets goes from person to person.
I don’t know if the need for greater personalization is because of design choices made by Pimax or a consequence of having the bigger FOV. Curios to see how other companies will handle that.
So in my mind the Pimax is a perfect option as a primary HMD, but not as the only one you have. Unless been completely asocial

I’ve not red most of the comments above, I prefer to make my own opinion myself. I’ve answered “Maybe”, and I do understand why there are so many “No”.
You can obviously count many of these “No” as being a fair feedback to 1.5 years of “it’ll be ready tomorrow” and the overall lack of communication skills in your company. But if we only take facts into account, my conclusion is that your product is not finished:
Countless people have had (like myself) to customise the foam to be able to use the headset because your design does not allow for much adjustment.
The headset confort with the strap isn’t great, and it’s even difficult to get the sweet spot.
Many people have had quality issues with their device (screen, case, cable, …).
Your product needs to be bought by people already having controllers and base stations (not that many potential customers! ).
The headset can only be used by advanced users, since the configuration needs to be edited almost between each game session.
The 5K+ I own has the best performance of all the VR headset I tried, and from that point of view you made a great product. However, like in all the industries, the ease of use and comfort will make this great product a success … or a failure.
Your next priority should really be the head strap, foam and the wireless module …
@anon74848233, I’ve been writing Windows software since version 1.03 (which was so long ago it shipped on 5 1/4 inch floppies). If your developers need advice as to how to do this, I’m available to answer questions.
I would not recommend it just yet, as its not a complete product. There are no base stations or controllers, a few bugs still need addressing and the interface is still clunky. Its all ok if you dont mind messing around.
