Trackers not working with Pimax after new SteamVR Update

I am confused - so this will make the knuckles/index controllers work with Pimax? You mention Vive Trackers

If pairing controllers toba dongle instead of headset maybe.

What is the Vive tracker dongle? Do they come each Vive Tracker?

If the above instructions don’t want to co-operate, add these steps:

Go to:
\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\drivers\null\resources\settings

Edit/Save default.vrsettings with Text Editor and enable the Null Driver by changing false to true.

Go to:
\Steam\config

Edit/Save steamvr.vrsettings with Text Editor:
Add "activateMultipleDrivers" : true, "requireHmd" : false, to the steamvr section.

Ex:

"steamvr" : {
      "activateMultipleDrivers" : true,
      "requireHmd" : false,
      "background" : "#FF000000",
      "forceFadeOnBadTracking" : false,

After the Trackers/Wands pairs, Exit SteamVR.

Go to:
\Steam\steamapps\common\SteamVR\drivers\null\resources\settings

Edit/Save default.vrsettings with Text Editor and change true to false

NOTE:
The Steam Controller USB Dongle can be firmware flashed to work with Trackers/Wands but not sure if the process can be undone.

I was referring to vive tracker pairing only as I thought someone mentioned that, but not the knuckles controllers. I don’t have those yet.

Ok understood thanks

I just found out that my Pimax 5K+ is no longer tracked (haven’t used it for a week, so it was a shock to find that my controllers are far behind me in VR when they’re in my hands IRL), only the gyros are working. I set my Steam to auto update everything so steamVR got updated to the latest version.

So basically these steps you gave is to remedy this? Or is that for something else?

Had the same thing happen the other day with the controllers being way off and kind of reversed.

I uninstalled PiTool and removed it’s pimax directory in AppData/local, installed it again, ran room setup in both PiTool and SteamVR and tracking was OK again.

Not sure what did the trick but it might be enough to just clean the AppData dir and run setup.

Thanks @DrWilken, I tried that but the problem persists. Uninstalled everything and deleted all folders in local and roaming named Pimax and PiTool but after installing PiTool, the base stations are still not read by the tool.

The wands are the ones triggering the base stations to come online. So whatever Valve did to SteamVR, the latest version of it doesn’t register Pimax as HMD. So unless someone here already found a workaround to this issue, it’s back to Vive for me. Just bought Vader Immortal, can’t be arsed to wait for Pimax to come up with the fix.

Check out the fix above for Trackers. Cas & Chary might have a workaround as the show knuckles with pimax. Someone on Discord said their maybe using steam beta?

The instruction linked above actually worked! I got Pimax working again without issue and Vader Immortal runs amazingly well and looks DAMN gorgeous! But as with all Oculus games, our issue is with the controls. Vive wands don’t translate well into Oculus’ mapping scheme. Got stuck when the droid asks to turn the dial to scan our ship. Can’t figure out how to do it.

That is not what I asked. I said Vive “trackers” aka Full body trackers. Not headset, not steam controllers.

Have you tried deleting the SteamVR in Steam\steamapps\common? That solved the HMD tracking issue I had. Might work for trackers as well.

These nuggets. So we are clear and have an understanding.
They were working just fine before with steam vr and pitool, but now we cannot use them for full body tracking.
If somebody from the development team for Pitool are reading this thread can you please make it so we can use more than 2 controllers through Pitool software.
We need up to 5 controllers in order to use full body tracking.

does not work. I’m starting to think that this was intentional from SteamVR to force users to buy an HTC, or Valve Index to use full body tracking. Hopefully pimax comes up with a fix, otherwise I’m going to be disappointed.

My 2.0 Trackers are working with the above ^ instructions.

can you send me a video of what you did to get them to work please? I really need to get my Vive trackers to work again. I’m a visual learner. Again “Vive TRACKERS”, not the Base Stations, or Steam Controllers, thanks.

I also have the same issue as existedhim.

I’ve been using three Vive Trackers with PiTool 121 and SteamVR 1.5.12 without issues.

To make sure everything is paired to the correct watchman endpoints correctly, unplug your Vive tracker dongles and pair the controllers to the headset, then with the controllers still turned on and paired, plug the Vive tracker dongles back in and pair each tracker.

For each new play session after the initial pairing, switch on the controllers first, then switch on each tracker one at a time to make sure they all register in SteamVR.

steamVR wouldn’t let me pair unless I have HMD, and I guess according to steamVR…Pimax is not a HMD cause it keeps saying “please make sure HMD is plugged in or wireless is connected” when I try to bind a new controller…even thot pimax is already connected
