SweViver's In-Depth Pimax 8K & 5K+ Review - please discuss it here!

IL2 and DCS is what it is all about. If DCS gets playable on 5k+ and 2080ti, but not 8k, I will get the 5k+. And how much better will IL2 be on the 2080ti compared to my 1080 ?
And if DCS is still unenjoyable on 2080ti, will I just keep the 1080 and stay with IL2 for now ?

Sweviver, I think that Project Car is a good game to illustrate the clarity and sharpness under different settings and FOV. I have done it myself with different settings and observe the clarity in far view, close up and overall picture details.

PCars definitely will not run in large FOV @ 1.5 Pitool rendering with 1080ti but still it’ll be nice to know what is the FPS so people who are getting 2080ti can assess if it is possible to play it in large FOV.

Please turn off reflection and lower the settings on others like MSAA or maybe show what are the settings you’re playing under. Try it with both normal FOV and large FOV and then assess the performance under different rendering in Pitool and Steam. I heard you have to set Steam to at least 51% to get any clarity though (no matter what the Pitool is).

Hi Marcin. Would it be possible for you to try hellblade on the 5k+again but this time reduce the fov to small and decrease the ss in increments until the game is totally playable? I ask as I am an 8k backer who is swapping for the 5k+ and would like to play it on my pimax as I don’t own vive lighthouses or controllers…so really don’t want to wait until next year…thanksšŸ˜†

People suspect that how much sampling to make 8k to have quality like 5k+.

I suspect that how much sampling to make 5k+ to have quality equal 8k and how about fps when compare with 8k.

SweViver says Pitools setting of 1.5ish
IE need to render for the 8K almost 4K per eye.

@SweViver
Sorry Martin to keep hounding you about rFactor2 but I have another question. I just ran my Vive at the same track as you (Silverstone) with the same car (Radical) and my normal in-game settings (High track detail, most others medium but shadows low and reflections off) with 12 AI. I ran my SteamVR per-eye SS up to 2548x2831 (284% or 7,213,388 pixel count) before I dropped below 90hz. How does that pixel count compare to what you ran? What SS resolution (per eye pix count) did you run with the 8k? If I just jack my SS pixel count up to what you ran wouldn’t that make a good comparison of what my system will do with the 8k? BTW, I have an MSI 1080ti Gaming X like you though my CPU is only a 7600k.

Oh yeah, and I have in-game AA set to level 5! Seems that no matter what the SS level, I have to use AA or there is tremendous shimmering of the background (especially fences and such) You might try that to see if it clears up the bad edges you referred to in your voice comments.

Edit – Looking at the very beginning of your video in the thread:
http://community.openmr.ai/t/pimax-8k-5k-performance-boost-improved-rendering-with-new-update/8448

I see you run the Steam sliders up to 2903x2557=7,442,971 (for the 8k I think) and 3061x2632= 8,056,552 (for the 5k+ I think). (Why is 5k+ higher?)

My SS pixel count of 7,213,388 is slightly less than what you were running and I was on the threshold of going below 90hz so I’m thinking that matching resolution loads (total pixel count) might be a legit way predict my system’s capability if it was pushing an 8K… Right?

Any signs of an extended mode?

In the original review, color banding is discussed as an issue on the 5K+ (see link below). Since that time there have been changes to PiTools and SteamVR. To me color banding is almost as important, maybe more so, than sde.

Questions:
Is the banding still an issue on the 5K+?
Can the banding be made better (or worse) through resolution changes to PiTools/SteamVR?
Is the banding prevalent at most times where there is large patches of gradient color?
Is the banding always going to be a factor of the 5K+ due to the panel used?
Is banding present on the 8K at all?

@SweViver one question, and is possible that you change my mind one time more xD

For me SDE is very important. Love the different SDE from Oculus Go and PSVR. It looks invisible to me.

But I hate the SDE in Vive or Odyssey.

What HMD has less SDE by far? 5K+ or 8K?

Thanks in advance.

If you don’t like the SDE, take the 8K.

@SweViver soo, ive started my first game with pimax 5k+ and it was subnautica. Once loaded to the world i’ve encountered an issue with gui elements, everything is doubled, cant focus on them, like if ipd would be really really wrong. Adjusting ipd doesnt help, as the distance and position of the gpu elemnts for each eye is simply way to different. Did you experienced something like this? Any way to fix?

Sounds like you need to enable ā€˜parallel projections’

Yeah, already figured out. Trying…

Probably it should help, but for some reason when i enable this feature - it disables my xbox controller ingame…
How do i properly report this to pimax?
