Lol what’s a Prima 8kX? Damn it Pimax anothet SKU!
Yeah… I laughed too. funny thing is he gets it right in a couple places.
Rebranding to Prima could be good to stave off the stigma that follows Pimax’ brand.
Yeah. And that’s a darn shame. I think they’re on track now but they’ve built up enough bad publicity that some people won’t even consider Pimax. If they can steadily improve the product- especially in terms of comfort and ease of uise- I think they can, over time, turn it around.
Hope so anyway. I know I like my 8kx- as I figure it out it just gets better and better.
Even 2D is not working? People around here suggested to start 2D first and then ingame switch to VR for better performance
(i don’t see an improvement)
Has anyone tried launching this game in oculus mode?
How could you even play with smart smoothing before? This game is totally unacceptable with SS in my opinion. The crosshair is ghosting when using SS. Considering this is where you look at 90% of the time you play that is quite a deal breaker.
I am playing it with small FOV now. That way I can keep the 90 FPS solid even with good supersampling. normal FOV dooesn’t go above 85 FPS npo matter how much details I loose (Overclocked 2080 TI).
That being said it is perfectly fine with small FOV. The smaller FOV hurts but once you are actually playing it doesn’t matter that much anymore.
@JoCool and me tried this. In my case steam gets started anyways
Haven’t done this before so i could be doing something wrong…
Hmmm interesting I didn’t get any ghosting. If I went slightly below 37/38 (and now annoyingly, it can get stuck slightly above), it pauses every 1-2 seconds so the game is ‘stepping’.
I was on a driver from a couple of releases back, but now I’m on the Squadrons one. Doesn’t seem any better, in some cases it feels worse. Might have broken SS. NMS now gets a couple of spikes here and there.
I might well switch to Small as well, I started doing that on ED and NMS and the performance gain is significant. As you say, once in the action you forget about it.
Smart Smoothing is working again, installed the older Nvidia 452.06. The ‘Squadrons’ 456.55 is a dud.
In your previous post you referred to SS, but call it Smart Smoothing here.
The terms are SS = SuperSampling and MS=Motion Smoothing, or Reprojection.
Also, you are talking about ED and NMS in your previous post, then about “Smart Smoothing works again” in the following. Are you referring to SW Squadrons?
I’m honestly a bit confused by that right now.
Right sorry I’ll clarify
Not talking about SuperSampling. I stopped using any value other than default when I got the X, at least for now.
I mean SS as in Smart Smoothing. I agree, I used to refer to it as Motion Smoothing / MS, but then PiTool actually calls it Smart Smoothing. So ironically I didn’t want to confuse anyone!
Smart Smoothing broke in Squadrons after I installed the latest Nvidia driver. I uninstalled it, installed the previous one, and it works again now. The newer driver also seemed to marginally worsen performance in NMS, but didn’t break NMS’s Smart Smoothing. Didn’t test the new driver in ED.
The final thing is that I got a good performance benefit in both NMS and ED from switching to small FOV. I haven’t seen a benefit in Squadrons, but that was very likely because the new driver was a performance wrecker anyway. Normal FOV is holding 37/38 for me at the moment.
There seems to be a seconds patch for pc released on monday focusing on vr: Star Wars Squadrons patch notes: VR issues fixed with latest update | Gaming
Additionally the devs are working on the vr mode.
I didn’t had time to test if anything changes. Has someone tested it already?
The patch did nothing. HOTAS deadzones still there, Pimax still runs crappy in it, among other issues
Damn, that’s pretty s*****
OMG, this game is awesome. Shame it’s f**ked atm. Looking forward to that RTX 3090 and a ton of patches.
A new patch will drop tomorrow during downtime, together with maintenance.
Quite a few things will get fixed then, incl the Hotas deadzones and several performance issues. The blurry skybox is logged as well and will get fixed eventually. They’ll see what they can do regarding blur.
Everything I mention is regarding VR only btw.

Game is awesome. It’s just those damn stars. My god they’re so bad.
Is a Hotas really worth it for this game if I don’t really play other fight games? I feel like i’ll miss the rumble from a controller. I did order a ButtKicker which should compensate for a Hotas not having any force feedback if I decide to get one.
