Star Citizen - VR Citizen Guide & Website 2021

The most relaxed way would be to simply rename the title of the topic

I took the hard way, moved all @LukeRoss related posts to new topic here

Hi @jTeller, my mods are 6DOF. There is full positional tracking, and there should be no warping or pupil swimming whatsoever. Did you activate parallel projections? Unfortunately itā€™s needed for Pimax headsets for the moment.

Ahahaha I was thinking the same.

So apologies for going back on topic, but thereā€™s a method to use Reshade (EAC whitelisted) instead of VorpX. I have never used Reshade so havenā€™t tried this myself yet. Might give it a go as I had no luck with VorpX anyway.

Sadly Mr Sanchez believes it is very unlikely that EAC will whitelist VorpX in future, so itā€™s this or eventual native support (which one of the pro-VR SC devs confirmed is still a long way off, sob :sob:).

  1. "Itā€™s still on my list.

Once the gen12/vulkan renderer is in a great state iā€™m trying to push for this.

My goal is still to implement fullbody vr into star citizen. Imagine all the cool videos people could make with it! Now THAT would be a wet dream :)"

  1. ā€œNow that the Gen12 Renderer is showing as complete on the progress tracker, does that mean youā€™ll be starting on this?ā€

  2. "Hey,

itā€™s not complete yet. We are still working on completing the core system. Also, this is just an initial working implementation. There is still tons of optimizations we have to do afterwards. And then there is Vulkan. Donā€™t expect a native VR implementation anytime soon."

@LukeRoss Thank you for taking the time to personally respond. I should try to clarify what Iā€™m experiencing visually since I didnā€™t mean to say that your mod was in 3DOF, it just ā€œfeelsā€ that way. So, as I stand still and pivot my head left/right or up/down itā€™s as if my head is not pivoting on a fixed point but rather that the whole scene is moving or warping as I turn my head which I find slightly nauseating.

Iā€™m using the latest Pitool software and firmware and PP is enabled yes. An odd thing is, if in RDR2 settings I turn off anistropic filtering it then feels/looks normal (ie I can pivot my head on a pole so to speak and the scene doesnā€™t move/warp, but, itā€™s of a much lower pixilated image quality. I have duplicated all of the recommended settings in your drop down overlay. The image in-game is amazing, as long as I donā€™t move my head lol. Some small tweak or setting that Iā€™m missing obviously.

Since weā€™re way off topic here, can you PM me on Patreon so we can follow up? The anisotropic filter thing is really odd, it happened to no other user (that I know of)

@LukeRoss yes of course, and Iā€™ll send you a pm on Patreon.

Iā€™ll try this at some point: Tuto: How to VR in SC 3.16+ EAC proof - Star Citizen Spectrum

Just read it. It seems like a very odd setup

not really sure how it works but iā€™ll try it.

I still havenā€™t tried it yet, but anything that knocks a component out of the equation and frees up resource (in this case Virtual Desktop from Chachi Sanchezā€™s workaround) is worth a look.

Before EAC it was SteamVR + Opentrack + VorpX. Then I think Opentrack got integrated into VorpX so was not needed separately.

Hmmm not able to get the 8KX detected as a display to mirror it. Any ideas?

Last night I tried without the display mirror. Results were unpromising. TrackIR/Opentrack didnā€™t seem to work for me.

I have yet to try the display mirror thingā€¦

Interesting Iā€™ve not had trouble getting Opentrack to work, always responds OK. SteamVR and headset need to be up and tracking first of course.

As I understand it, these workarounds canā€™t be used without mirroring the display as well.

But I canā€™t get SteamVR to treat the headset as another display, Win10 doesnā€™t recognise it. Therefore I canā€™t go to display options and tell the OS to mirror displays, Win10 only sees my one monitor.

Ah the OP who wrote that tutorial tried with a 5k and had the same problem. So it seems Pimax headsets canā€™t be recognised as main displays by Windows. Perhaps they can find another solution.

Whatā€™s your problem with VorpX and SC?
I admit, it was a long time ago (1 year) for me, but it worked halfway with high resolution

Two things:

  1. VorpX never hooked into SC for me, donā€™t know why. Couldnā€™t find anyone who could help me solve it.
  2. It doesnā€™t matter now anyway, SC now uses Easy Anti-Cheat (EAC) which blocks VorpX and very unlikely to allow it again in future.

Reshade has now been whitelisted and has a VR implementation in it, so this is the remaining workaround for now. The original method involved Reshade + Virtual Desktop + Opentrack.

The tweaked method uses just Reshade and Opentrack, but doesnā€™t seem to work for Pimax users (HTC and Oculus are OK), because it needs Windows to see the headset as another display (possible via SteamVR setting) - but so far this doesnā€™t seem possible with Pimax headsets.

If anyone knows better Iā€™d like to find a solution to that.

OK I joined Chachi Sanchezā€™s Discord and with his help I got his original method working: https://youtu.be/sPuXUwu-PzI

As I wrote on there:

Performance on the X isnā€™t great, unsurprisingly, even when Iā€™ve turned down settings all over the place, but will continue to tweak and see what can be done. There are some other Pimax users there so will try and work together on improving things.

  1. Even if the desktop is running very nicely at 60FPS itā€™s a very different story in the headset. Average FPS just in free fly Arena Commander is 25-30FPS, but worst is GPU spiking - all over the place average 30ms but often up to 60ms. Plenty of stutter and periodic artefacts. Still, hereā€™s the settings Iā€™m currently trying.

  2. Desktop and game dropped to 1080p, quality at medium / low. 3. Virtual Desktop: Screen size 90, Screen Distance 4.0 metres, Screen Curve 100%. PiTool / Pimax Experience headset settings: 60Hz. PT / PE Virtual Desktop settings: FOV Small / Render Quality 1 / Fixed Foveated Rendering: Conservative / Smart Smoothing: On Should be kicking in at 30FPS as I set the headset to 60Hz.

This is with the X so inevitably needs a large drop in settings quality for SC to cope. But still not enough, so Iā€™ll have to experiment further to see if the GPU can stop spiking. 2080 Ti and i9900k.

Try using Vorpx Desktop I find it performs much faster than VD. Not sure if Vorpx Desktop has lock to head as an option, I think it does.

(note I said Vorpx Desktop & not Vorpx which is blocked)

VD hasnā€™t been updated on desktop since Aug 2020. He basically is just supporting Quest now.

Ah right thx, will have to play around with that :+1:t4:
