Should Pimax send their HMD to YouTubers now?

I saw what you did there
But he did receive his headset already so… the answer lies in the gif above.

I don’t think they are idiots. At best they are biased, but in addition this kind of situation requires some degree of a “curator”.

I think it’s better to wait until the software stack is more mature, and includes most of the performance optimisations the team is planning to implement (incl. Brainwarp). SweViver’s video from yesterday is an example of what’s possible version-to-version (and in general since the M1 test program), so more time spent on sw improvements will only result in better UX in the end. That’s what the mainstream reviewers should experience, not a product that needs to be retested every month when a new PiTool version is released, which won’t happen - Pimax has only one shot at this. With a perfected software, the overall impressions will be more positive, and Pimax will benefit more in the long term, as well as the VR industry as a whole.

May I ask, why would ANYONE get a free unit? And especially YouTubers???
All of us including me, Sebastian and Thomas have paid for at least 1 unit.
The testing units are being sent back soon.

Nothing comes free in my world.

Did he talk about it in a video or did he tweet this out? i’m interested.

Also, Ctop saw Sweiver’s review and congratualted him on it. Nathie tweeted good things about it. Very veryyy good news. The more exposure, the better. The better for us, and the better for vr’s future

That was one of my points in another thread… Pimax was only chosing at the time “reviewers” who actually backed the product in Kickstarter… something I’m sure the community really agreed with.

Notice in the poll… it doesn’t say NOT to send units for review… we’re talk about timing here. Is the time “right now” good to send YouTubers the Pimax HMD’s before Pimax releases the unit to backers even with the understanding that the software portion of the product isn’t finalized. Then there’s the whole issue that the Backers have been waiting longer than expected for their paid devices while Pimax promised their priority would be to the backers first!

ohh yeah i see. I voted for after. But i’m not talking about sending out for reviews. If they wanna review it, they can buy it themselves. BUT, if Pimax wants to expand and become more known, IMO they should send some units to jacksepticeye (who loves vr) and some other big youtubers who like vr. Them playing with it and saying how large the fov and how good the res is compared to what they’ve been using would bring soo many people to look into the pimax and buy it

But only if pimax wants that much exposure and if they want to send it of course

Exactly. Send out to every single backer first. Its thanks to the backers that this campaign even was accomplished! Not until when every backer has their unit, they can send promotional Pimaxes …

Exactly what i wrote in the other Thread as long as i haven’t received my Unit there can’t be any Units left to be send around the world to youtubers or other testers. We took the financial risk so that this project and Pimax can succeed now it’s the duty of Pimax to reward us backers first before anyone else.

But if pimax doing a meet or show. Drop by & demo like they did with Linus.

But again what they do with there reserved units is there business not ours.

Again… the poll says… “Send”… a demo at a show that Pimax attends is a different story.

I’ll go back to the same point I made several times… Pimax promised that their first priority at this point is to the backers… so I don’t necessary agree with that point. But obviously that’s up to Pimax… but you of all people know that Pimax needs to build on their relationship with the community that supports them and that includes trust!

Again there reserved units csn be used for whatever they choose & doesn’t affect backers period as these reserved units do not get shipped to backers.

So your headset is unaffected by what they do with their reserved units. Not part of the production run for backers.

If they were reserved and sent to youtubers… I don’t think many people would buy that line about how it doesn’t affect backers receiving theirs. That’s a really hard sell to convince they were keeping their promise. I’m backer #352… I’m sure it wouldn’t affect me… but those in the thousands…well… I don’t think so.

I think it would be a good idea for pimax to loan out test units to reviewers but definitely NOT yet.
Firstly this isn’t needed yet as pimax aren’t ready for retail & are still playing with the software, so any reviews now may not accurately reflect how the headsets perform on release.
Secondly, In my opinion, sending out units now would be disrespectful to the backers & especially the testers who stood by pimax, believed in this campaign & put in work helping to make it better.
The testers deserve reward. Not disrespect.
Let outside reviewers wait.
The time to send out units to them would be after ALL backers have received their units when pimax are preparing for retail release.

Before you send something to Linus, it must be idiot-proof.

Not sure if this case has been made yet, but right now the Three Musketeers have put a lot of time & effort into beta testing, making video reviews, and answering our questions here on the forums. By NOT giving other YouTubers advanced access to the HMDs, we’re rewarding the Three with a temporary monopoly on content about them. I think this is fair in light of the all of the work they’ve done and from which we have and will benefit from.

For this reason, I change my vote from “I don’t care, just don’t effect deliveries to backers” to @SweViver’s statement that Pimax shouldn’t send HMDs to YouTubers until every backer has received their HMD.
