RTX 30 Series Discussion - Part 1

I’m thinking of buying an RTX 3090, do you know the dates when the first brands released their model?

With DLSS Linus has the 3080 performing about 30% better at MS FS2020, 4K res.

The benchmark implies that both are running DLSS, which I am uncertain about, also no idea if this will translate into improved performance in VR with acceptable image quality.

and the 2080ti was not overclocked , we don’t know how 3080 overclocks yet

Particularly FlightSim seems to be CPU limited (1 core at 100%), so not the best GPU benchmark atm. (as mentioned in the video)

Only skipped through the LinusTechTips video, one interesting tidbit: Apparently the 30x0 cards support hardware virtualization (so you can use it on the host and several VMs), but apparently they decided to not unlock that feature for GeForce in the drivers.
If AMD unlocks this, then this could be an important argument for users who want to use the card for anything not game related. Not being able to use the GPU in VMs is one of the most annoying things of my current card.

Full partner RTX 3080 card prices [source]

ASUS ROG Strix: $849.99

EVGA FTW3 Ultra: $809.99

EVGA FTW3: $789.99

EVGA XC3 Ultra: $769.99

MSI Gaming X Trio: $759.99

ASUS TUF Gaming: $749.99

Gigabyte Gaming OC: $749.99

EVGA XC3 Gaming: $749.99

MSI Ventus 3X: $739.99

Gigabyte Eagle OC: $729.99

EVGA XC3 Black Gaming: $729.99

Zotac Gaming Trinity: $719.99

(Discovered via price filtering in Newegg)

Personally I think $150 more for Asus rog strix is waaaay too much. Performance will be similar to msi trio but “asus tax” makes this price ridiculous.

Je pense allez vers Msi aussi cette fois-ci. Merci pour cette liste.
google translate : I am thinking of going to Msi this time too. Thanks for this listing.

On Caseking some cards are even more uplifted. E.g. GeForce RTX 3080 XC3 Ultra Gaming for 828€ (inkl VAT). Perhaps not the final prices yet, looks all over the place.

Why people here act like they want to be disappointed by the new GPU? It is literally more than 30% more powerful than the previously best card you can possibly get. It is more than 60% powerful than the second best.

People are hell-bend looking at the MS flight simulator which had a 5% performance increase. No matter than it is known FACT that the game is CPU bound and literally there isn’t CPU existing that can run the game today. Why only focus on that? Why not others?

Here are a few benchmarked games. All show over 30% increase to best consumer GPU in the market with HALF THE PRICE. What more can you hope?

Man, I don’t know. The 3080 is across the board an absolute monster. Decimates the 2080ti unless you are CPU bound. This is obvious just from the transistor count. If everyone here wants to hold onto their 2080TI’s, power to them! Less of a bloodbath for us trying to get a FE

I’d guess because what people really want is a 3080Ti.
The expectation for a xx80 card would be to have about equal performance as the previous generation’s xx80Ti.

FLight sim X or flight sim 2020? If the latter, given that it’s new code, that’s really disappointing. How can a game built in the last year not use more than one core?

FS 2020. Think it uses more cores, it just overloads one to the max though. Hopefully this will still be patched, things like that might not so easy to fix in hindsight though…

Sort of a summary of all the “big” reviews out there

A review of reviews… Gartner…

Wow, watching GamerNexus at 4x speed is hardcore, it appears 2x speed to me when he just speaks normally already :innocent:

True. I had to listen carefully to follow along (and English is my primary language).

It seems that I’m not the only one who thinks 10GB is not enough memory for the 3080. If you can wait for a 20GB version, you should.

That would make it a ‘meta analysis-or maybe a ‘lit review’! (Academic joke!- maybe not that funny… but sort of applicable :grinning:.)
