I plan on selling my 3800 before the refresh / 16-20GB versions when the price for the 10GB will drop. I don’t mind sharing this knowledge with you, @neal_white_iii , but don’t tell anyone else because if everyone tries this the plan won’t work.
How about a little more than double the performance of an OC 2080 Ti AT ANY PRICE.
Seriously, VR enthusiasts are left out in the cold, again.
Now I’m thinking about 3090. Just don’t wanna end like guys who bought rtx titan for $2500 and got 7fps!!! more than 2080ti for $1200. Literally they paid over $1000 to get 7fps more in battlefield V and just ~10fps more in other games. In VR probably difference is 1fps.
But this year $1500 for 3090 is good price yet if 3080TI will be only 1% worse for $500 less, then I will be pissed.
@Kamppis this 3080 is good for monitor but not VR. That’s why ppl here are disappointed. 30% is in 4K on monitor. In vr difference will be around 5-10%.
Flight simulator is comming to VR and it will kill 3080. We need stronger card.
No, in VR, the difference is more supersampling, every bit of which is HUGE.
Supersampling will eat VRAM like crazy. 8kx with 180% supersampling might need even 20GB.
We are also a beautiful pigeon with our appetite to see all this progress. I’m like everyone else, as soon as I get the latest IT news I go for it but I feel like the idiot of the village facing these IT giants like NVDIA. Maybe I am going to bring up something almost philosophical. Certainly Them and Evolves! but I !! ?? except in my way of consuming … well … little …
DLSS might not be a thing for vr , we want more actual detail not less , sort of the opposite of supersampling
Lots of benchmarks in this one (Hardware Unboxed):
In 4K resolutions most games gain quite a bit of performance (if the game isn’t CPU bottlenecked or badly optimized).
I still think I’ll be going for a 3090 unless there will be a 3080Ti with performance very close to it (and 20GB memory) for something like USD 1199,-

The 2080ti is quite overclock friendly , if the 3080 doesn’t overclock very well because of the power draw the benchmarks mean very little
If You compare the price (from new) it’s still a lot better performance per $…
Also, we’re comparing it to the 2080Ti, but if there’s an upcoming 3080Ti that’s the card it should be compared to.
I 100% agree
3080ti with more ram is the one to get ,
Been checking a few vendor sites but no 3080’s for sale yet
, guess it’s 2pm again before they start selling them ???
Having a pretty good 2080Ti (ROG Strix OC) I think I’ll wait a month or two ( maybe if I write it it’ll work? ) and see which options pop up…
If no Ti’s show up, or if the gains are big enough, I’ll go for a 3090…
They’re not released on Komplett.dk (which I normally/mostly use) yet either…
Yes all this rumour/ whispering that the overclock is driver limited or AIB’s will be overclockable with the three 8 pin power connectors
, sensible for vr gamers to wait and see , but might not be able to get hold of one with overclock possibilities for months anyhow
I’m almost hoping that’ll be the case… I’m really good at convincing myself into “hasty decisions”…
I’m tempted too , bit of self convincing going on , what am i doing checking the nvidia shop every so often , wtf
Pretty sure that’s exactly the reason for the extremely limited supply of FE cards at launch…
Think I’ll go for a 20 minute walk at about 13.45 , see how much I really want one
We need more properly OC 2080ti VS stock 3080 benchmarks.
Here there are only two 3080 that have passed the test, one ends with 195%, the other with 169% while we are several to reach 204% with our OC 2080TI.
Edit: The second 3080 benchmark (169%) has disappeared, as I’m writing this there is only one tested 3080 again.
