Pimax Dream Air

What is happening, all these new headsets but none of them are the 12K…

New delay seems to be they are now saying they need DP 2.0. so another case of presenting an idea too soon. However in theory with past claims of being 70% complete long ago. That while unlikely should be the only thing holding them back now.

But we all should know better by now with over estimating progress and underestimating tasks there will likely be other delays announced.

As it is we are still waiting for it Crystal standalone, wifi 6e, WiGiG module release and finger sensing for both the Crystal controllers and the sword controllers to be enabled.

So many white elephants to resolve.

Pimax Sword :crossed_swords:

Quite liking mine. These have a reinforcement sleeve mod to stop the tracking ring separating from the body under Beat Saber stress :ghost:

So how long do people think we’ll go into 2025 before we hear of the Dream Air delay? Haha. It’s now February and 3 months to May.

isnt the Somnium 1 supposed to be modular?

knowing that the stock of panels are limited, it’s seeming more likely that the uOled cartridge is going to be delayed if not outright cancelled.

at the very least once the realize nobody cares for uoled in that formfactor they will sunset them early.

its obvious the dream air should be the priority.

It was advertised as such because you can 3d print attachments and mount them onto the headset.

Less modular than my Pimax Crystal which has Dmas, steamVR faceplate, fibre optic tether, multiple cushions, etc.

Using them all here. Beauty of steamVR

Kind of in the way @XRC said. However I believe the model you buy cannot be upgraded to a higher model.

Yeah that’s a shame because it should be possible to return the HMD for a factory rebuild if wanting higher specification.

The 3D printed attachment idea is neat but perhaps not so useful as being able to rebuild or upgrade the HMD

Pimax pay all that money for Renders only to change the design shortly after. The speakers are much bigger.

I didn’t see anything about the Auto strap I bet that idea gets scrapped I I didn’t hear anything about it in the video.

So they’re only expecting to have a proper working demo unit in April? Lol well there blows that May launch.

I just feel there will be a 3-6 month period between final prototype and a final production unit in the hands of Youtubers. My estimate is October/November.

Around October /November Pimax will announce a new HMD to be shown at CES 2026. Lol

They said it was modular and open source, neither of which are true. The “modular” aspect is that it has mounts on the side which you can 3D print parts for, which in that case the Quest line of headsets are modular because you can do the same there.

In terms of open source, that one really bothers me as it absolutely is untrue. They said they will opensource their eye tracking, which has yet to happen afaik, and that’s it. Nothing else is open source, so advertising the headset as open source is just false and misleading.

Sorry to seem so bothered by this, it’s just open source means something and it’s important that meaning is maintained and not taken over by companies just wanting to use it for marketing purposes.

Indeed for an actual Open-source headset in the works we have Walkerdev’s project.

“Open-source software (OSS) is computer software that is released under a license in which the copyright holder grants users the rights to use, study, change, and distribute the software and its source code to anyone and for any purpose”

It’s very important that companies don’t engage in false advertising as part of sales pitch. Considering the people behind the vr1 it’s not surprising really.
