Pimax Dream Air

I have and I’m not proud of myself. I don’t want to be th e party pooper. I don’t get any pleasure in being hyper critical. It’s just we hear the same things years on year. “Better communication” “New headsets, better than anyone else” “12k still in development” “60g Wigig module” “release dates”

Just stop,stop, stop, stop, stop…

We only need communication when something is good. We don’t need a comminication to tell us how bad the comminication is.

We don’t need to know when unicorns are born or what they eat or how fast they grow. We want to know what the next product is only when it’s in production 3 months before it goes on sale.

Say the 12k is cancelled and concentrate on the next model not the model that’s 12 months + away.

Bin the 60gig module it’s not going to sell, it’s not compatible with anything apart from Crystal and no ones going to buy the Crystal once the Super arrives.

Release some sales numbers. If you’re a niche company serving niche products we don’t expect 1 million HMD sales. Pretending to be the next Meta is crazy.

The 12k is 4x 2880 displays. The 5090 is going to stuggle and it’s going to be niche HMD for even for ultra VR lovers.

Release a wide FoV 2x4k HMD but in the Super Module configuration because thats the only reason I’d buy a Super.

Be realistic about the Dream Air. If its not at CES 2025 it’s because its no where near ready. Don’t BS people just to delay people from buying Megane X becasue it’s just screams desperation and desperation means you are scared to lose sales. Scared to lose sales because you can’t afford to lose sales.

Pimax needs no more than 1 headsets at any one time. One per year. 8KX, Crystal, Crystal Light, Super QLED, Super OLED, Dream Air, 12k…omfg my head is spinning. lol

Meta - Quest 3, Quest 3S. Flagship, cheaper version.
Byte Dance - Pico4 Ultra
Valve - Index
Shiftall - Megane X
Big Screen - Beyond
Sony - PSVR 2

Each HMD lasts for 2-3 years before the replacement comes. Pimax is like opening a box of chocolates.

Pimax after 9 years are basically at ground zero, Kevin, Sweviver, Josh now Jaap. No one has had an impact on the company and said stop, lets do things right.

No, sorry, I am talking about what Pimax tried to pull off here, not what they were forced to do due to the backlash they experienced from the VR community.

They tried to collect 1,100$ from your money for the very definition of vapor ware at that point in time.

Will Pimax even have a finished working Super OLED at CES?

We shall see (read) within hours, or at least 2-3 days…

You can Reserve or make Full payment.

Pimax say Dream Air is in stock.

Shipping is free for pre orders and in the UK inc tax comes to £1783.20.

Well I may have missed it. But have only seen the reserve. Dream Air though has an early prototype using Crystal Super Frame iirc.

I don’t recall seeing any live pre orders for the Dream Air. @PimaxQuorra

Okay I see it now thanks

This just comes down to the consumer making the choice. The Reserve is not new. Anyone who chooses to pre order anything prior to some kind of release is foolish imho. Even if a.Nvidia Or And GPU(especially since often. First batches in the wild often reveal issues)

Like I said that comes down to how brain-dead a consumer chooses to be. Regardless of company. Vaporware though? Often Kickstarers/Indiegogo projects comes to mind.

Difficult to say. Imho if the distortion profile not Fletcher out enough yet. Would be wise to hold off. We do know the optic engine module prototype is at least in play and is being used in Dream Air prototype.

That‘s not the point - which reputable company do you know that would not immediately rule out accepting any substantial downpayment on a non-existing product (I mean, I am hard-pressed to even come up with any company which would makea product announcement at all at such an early stage)?

And to add salt to injury, wasn‘t it exactly this company which a couple of years ago apologized and said in future they‘d only take money when delivery was about to commence?

That is the really concerning thing here, the lack of learning from past mistakes, which in my view doesn‘t bode well.

It is frustrating because Pimax have capabilities, they have a vision and dare to go where others don‘t bother to go. I‘d have been out of here years ago if I wasn‘t hopeful that they could create something worthwhile. But repeating past mistakes may make any progress they achieve futile at the end.

Another one of these mistakes is the eagerness to jump on your next favorite flavor too soon: I was lurking into the Discord yesterday and there you can see o.g. a Crystal owner complaining that his device hasn‘t seen any firmware update for a long time. Mind you, it still has some issues I believe so I am not talking about new, non-advertised feature adds here.

Just imagine the Crystal Super is good, and you dish out the money to buy it. But in 18 months from now Pimax is focused on getting the Dream Air ready to ship, still possibly working on the 12K and probably another newly announced headset, Dream Air Pro or comparable: your Super might not get the attention it deserves anymore. Will you invest $2,5k under these circumstances, with this uncertainty even for the shorter term, let alone the long term?

Bottom line is. Consumers are responsible for the choices they make. There is enough info out there to make an informed choice. In this case whether to reserve a pre order or pay for a pre order. It is really a no brainer to reserve vs paying in full for a pre order…

Especially now with current feedback on the Super at CES. One cannot blame others for their choices made.

But Pimax are literally lying. Their website says in stock when it doesn’t have a launch date. Yes Pimax say May but that is not set in stone.

For sure buyer beware but this is not EBay and Pimax after 9 years should know better.

Just why would Limax want any money 5 months ahead of time if they had $30 million in 2023? It makes no sense and gives Pimax no advantage. It only makes they look bad. Bad business practices at the front end means lots of bad practices at the back end.

Well, this would effectively excuse any bad behaviour of a company including scams. I was not suggesting that consumers have no responsibility for their choices, yet there still are certain minimum standards many of us expect companies to respect if they wish to avoid ruining their reputation.
Imho Pimax have inflicted some damage on themselves here, an unforced error. As to why they chose to do so, I am at a loss.

So no does not include scams where there is not enough info to base a decision. Scams typically do not offer a good refund policy.

This Redditor posted on their topic with link to MRTV ces pimax.

Key points cancel anytime and once received 14 days to return & refund it additionally.

MeganeX on the otherhand - thank you for your pre order; no you cannot refund.

@Atmos that is just foolish mistake. Have you ever seen a product for pre order listed as “In.Stock”? Just a mistake on their web team.

@PimaxQuorra @jaapgrolleman yous may want the team to correct that.

I guess we have established that we are not going to share the same sentiment about taking 1,100$ downpayment on a non-existing product.

It just tells me something about Pimax approach in 2024/2025 which warns me that they are getting way ahead of themselves in terms of what they announce where they are with their products in an aggressive attempt to lock in buyers who they fear may otherwise purchase a competing headset instead. And this will ultimately happen at the cost of the buyers themselves too, as they are mislead into believing that the device will be shipped to them in May or June.
Same as Super pre-orderers thought it would arrive in January, and now could think a properly QA‘s and refined product will be sent to them in April.
I am glad they did not add the „buy a commercially available Pimax headset now & trade-in for a Dream Air later“ scheme this time around.

But you are right in the sense that those who have experience with Pimax are not likely to fall for it. Or if they do, it‘s a case of fool me twice.
Still not good enough by the company in my books.

The difference between Shiftall and Pimax is the Megane X is a finished product. It’s been shown working to many Youtubers. It’s just a HMD to be manufactured so Pre orders are for manufacturing costs.

Pimax on the other hand has a CGI render and a 3D print. It’s not a real thing and it has a minimum 5 month release date and realistically 12 months because they are releasing two HMDs before the Dream Air.

The Super OLED uses the same screens as Dream Air and they are a limited purchase. If they sell 500 OLED modules then there is no OLEDs for Dream Air. So Dresm Air gets pushed back and those stumping up $2k have to wait.

What good is it for Pimax if 10,000 people pre-order but then 10,000 people cancel? There is no advantage it’s just a disadvantage because Pimax might gear up production for 10,000 units. A total waste of time and money.

Pimax have raised millions so why do they need the money up front anyway. Makes no sense.

Pimax have no business sense after 9 years which is why new start ups can overtake them with one product.

We don’t even know what the glare is like on the OLED optics because no one has had hands on yet because it doesn’t exist. The OLED has yet to materialise at CES which is damning if you want to pre order Dream Air.

It’s shocking really.

What Pimax should do is wait. Then…

Dream Air design is finalised
Pre production models sent to Youtubers
Evaluation period
Mass production starts
Pre Launch event
Pre orders taken
2 months of prediction before first batch sent to customers.

The end of the day as Totalwarspammer said it is a conscious choice whether or not to pre order and you can cancel at anytime. If stay the course and receive it, 14 days to choose to keep it return for a refund.

Panasonic sold off Shiftfall after the first headset more or less failed to launch. There first headset released in limited numbers in Japan only. It doesn’t change the no refund policy on the pre orders.

This all comes down to personal choice. Based on having all the info available.
