I have and I’ve been right. I’ve been saying unsustainable business model and Pimax are still in an unsustainable business model. They got $30 million 2 years ago.
If I was wrong they’d be making profit an d not need to sell their business to stay afloat.
Haha, let’s ignore Pimax performance on the Steam Hardware Survey. That is a damning reality check.
If Pimax release the Dream Air in May I will become a Pimax believer. But Pimax have never launched a headset on time and this one looks less likely that others.
I admire people’s optimism v reality. But when Samsung, Meta and Apple start slugging it out Pimax isn’t even in the room on any metric.
At least Dream Air is getting an LED strip. I remember how Crystsl was getting one too. Eek.
The crystal light launched when they said it would, which was a first but hopefully a sign of the company maturing particularly with the new CEO at the helm tor the last year or so.
Crystal super is planned to launch the end of this month iirc and seems on track to do so.
I agree the track record has been very poor, just wanted to mention that they have actually launched one headset on time and hopefully it’s the mark of a change.
I do agree though that it’s very unlikely the dream air will actually ship in May but who knows.
We do know they’re not making a profit because why else did they seek investment. Every 3 years since the Kickstarter. Last in 2023 so next round is next year. So if Dream Air iis delayed till next year and they run out of money what then?
And don’t forget not only do you need a profit but the profit needs to go into the next HMD.
$60million really cannot last this long. Chinese labor, expenses and rent are lower than the west but not this cheap. Plus the CEO and some of the staff are westerners. They won’t accept low salaries. It’s already quite a miracle that Pimax can last this long. And most amazingly, still able to deliver Crystal Light and getting ready for Crystal Super. They deserve huge Kudos for those achievements.
Meanwhile, I think Pimax still need the Dream Air to attract more investment. At the least it will secure some OLED panels. They do need to keep the dream afloat. I sincerely hope they will survive and come up on top. This is why I really hope they will focus on Crystal Super, and not repeat the same mistake of stretching too much.
It doesn’t catch all the Pimax users running openXR and avoiding steamVR due to performance issues with heavy SIM software. From reading many comments the past years there are hardcore simmers that only play 1 or 2 titles always openXR
Potentially this can miss 1/2 the user base of Pimax
Same situation here, it shows the last connected headset. I’ve been using my Pimax Crystal, my Crystal Light and my valve Index recently, but Index the most recent so it ignores the Pimax completely
For sure Steam Hardware Survey has its flaws but when you combine all Pinax headsets over 9 years it still comes second to 1 headset over 1 year.
The Dream Air renders look fantastic. The specs look fantastic. If Pimax can pull it off it will be a turning point for Pimax. But that is if no other VR company does a similar thing at a similar price point or with wider than 102 FOV.
In 2025 102 FOV should not be a thing. 125 FOV should be the minimum target for any manufacturer. I’m never going to down size FOV from a £400 HMD to a £2000 HMD. It’s rediculous. Same goes for Megane X.
I’d rather have 150 FOV on Fresnel Lenses than 102 on pancake.
I’d rather have 150 FOV on Fresnel Lenses than 102 on pancake.
I’m disagree with that, because on Fresnel, probably the º of the lens with maximum clarity will be much less than those 150º. And with pancake (if the lens is good), you could have nearly all the 102º.
And all without godrays and glare, which are a pain in the fresnel.
But I think you’re comparing fresnel glare from 2014 to pancake glare of 2024.
Fresnel can be advanced too. The coatings and technics used to improve pancake lenses can be applied to fresnel. Smaller ridges anti reflective coating and edge coating across 150FOV could make it a winner.
No doubt pancake, zero glare over 180 FOV would be the end goal.
The Quest 3s has the same lens and panel of the Quest 2, the only change is the SoC and the new Passthrough cameras, or at least that is what was published everywhere.
So I think there is no new fresnel lens from meta in this 2024 (but I couldn’t affirm it at 100% because I didn’t try the 3s)
I get it that Atmos has been rather pessimistic about all things Pimax in the last years, and you have been more bullish.
But are you really positive about the state of the Dream Air and opening up pre-orders with initially a pre-payment of 1,100$? Doesn‘t it concern you at all?
