Pimax day backlash!

I was talking about a new lens iteration, ensuring strict QA and review on panel and lens placement, and a depth adjustment dial. Not providing eyetracking to every backer for free which would cost up to 2.4 million dollars (8000 x $300)

A new lens revision and a different lens holder mould which allows for depth adjustment with a new dial has to do with changing the plastics slightly and is no where near the realms of cost required to develop a technology like eyetracking. Those two things would cost 1/10th of the price or 100-200k total at most, and they really shouldn’t take more than a couple months to research, develop and produce.

Is a direct respose to:
https://community.openmr.ai/t/version-3-prototype-review/3822/154\
They asked whether it was RGBW or pentile. They chose to answer with RGB. Not pentile, pentile like, RGBG, RGBW or what we actually got RB/G.

Yes RGBW is still RGB & not Pentile.

RBG can look like RGB in a different order. From my understanding Pentile is an a trademark of Samsung.

Meaning an LCD (not made by samsung) with a pentile like matrix is called something else. The samsung displays also have a special driver board that helps with subpixel rendering compatibility.

Simply saying RGB is not saying RGB Full either. Answer remains vague & simply not really answered.

Note 3: Pentile (1080p) / Z Ultra: RGB (1080p) / Note 2: RGB (720p)

Obviously no one would like a PenTile :japanese_goblin:

A rough comparison: PenTile looks one step worse in resolution ( About: 4K PenTile = 2560x1440 RGB)
Show me the one who came up with shove this PenTile in 8K :eyes: :eyes:

The problem is it is true the 8k does not use PenTile displays as Samsung didn’t supply the displays. So the 4k Panel could be named RGB Bork & still be called RGB.

Much like MacDonalds Hamburgers are made with a 100% beef but nowhere does it say it’s only made of 100% beef.

Simple truth the clarity of the question was not understood & the clarity of the answer. Clarified nothing save some thought it meant what they thought it did.

Only the Engadget article specifically made claims from an unnamed source in pimax that they were going full rgb striped. And well they did in the 5k+. :beers::sunglasses::+1::sparkles:

Anyway, you will not dispute that making 2 headsets with almost the same SDE is at least stupid?
Therefore, show me the one who did this (put PenTile in 8K) :eyes:
It is interesting to see who made us suffer now with such an 8K with wrong panels :japanese_goblin::japanese_goblin:

They only made 2 headsets (8k/8kX) on request of community after Native 4k at the time not possible.

The same truth still applies as many might not see differences between 8k+ & 8kX without in depth macro shots to direct compare.

Had 8kX been possible at the start there would only be 8k at native 4k/eye & no 8kX.

There is no Samsung displays in the 8k & thus no PenTile panels were used.

In that case, releasing 8K with such panels was pointless…
(It seems that this was done only to feed the thirsty backers with a headset with meaningless panels)

Not really as if new panels had not come about the X would have the same panels as released 8k.

Well then it would be triple stupid, unfortunately :joy::joy:

How so? No RGB full panels available. You’d have to get a native 8kX in what is available vs what is not.

Only hope would have been the 4k oled panel with 732ppi only ever demoed in 2015.

And it vanished since then not a peep.

For a rgb oled panel i am willing to pay 400-500 euro more, and i think alot off here and outside the forum.

The panel demoed in 2015 seems to not likely be rgb at 732ppi vs 829ppi.

@Heliosurge, well, you yourself understand everything perfectly, in fact, I believe :wink:

It’s just that this whole situation with 8K + (which og 8K should have been) is annoying for many.

I remember back then we asked them that maybe there will soon be an updated 8K with real RGB panels soon, but they didn’t say anything by sending us such 8K.

As SweViver said, Pimax already apologized for it.
But, they don’t need to apologize for mistakes, they need to be corrected, especially when there is such an opportunity (there are the right panels).

Annoyed is an understatement here. I’m pissed. I wait for a year and a half to get my headset that’s less than what they promised and then 6 months later they release exactly what the headset should have been.

Yes, that’s exactly it.
And Pimax for some reason does not want to dispel this misunderstanding.

I fully understand what you’re saying. But when they call us enthusiasts its expected that all statements made by them with technical information is using the most accurate wording. In this case RGB being plain old RGB. Its not a vague answer its a crystal clear one made during the KS

They are probably on Holiday now and will be back in like 1 week +

Yeah I know it’s yet another chinese holiday. And because they aren’t going to be here doing damage control. It’s going to turn into a dumpster fire like CNY.

Well, of course, it was time for them to go on vacation :grin:
