Perfection is hard even for 8KX (if working as intended).
Some would complain it “only” refresh at 90Hz.
Some would complain the requirements are too big to play at 2 x 4K with decent refresh rate, and to add an eye-tracking solution to let devs enable DFR.
Some would complain about having to install Lighthouses.
And we haven’t seen the potential distortion at the edges by ourselves yet.
I thought people complain about the 1,299 before even getting to that.
My only complaint about $1300 is how to sneak it past my wife.
Get one for her as well. Honestly I would be pretty mind blown if the first thing someone demoed to me in VR was the 8KX. no SDE, Wide FOV. It’s as close to real life as we can get.
Thanks for the suggestion, but it wouldn’t help. She doesn’t even play games on a PC or console.
Hehe yeah I am working on that one . To bad Pimax don’t have a trade in program then we could say we are sending it back under warranty to get a new housing .
What im going to do is just put it on my credit card. When she finds out, its all too late to do anything.
Then i will tell my wife, what’s gone aint coming back, but if i am still alive, i can make more. Im no use dead you know.
My wife doesn’t either, but hopefully yours supports your hobbies like mine does. $1300 is a big pill regardless of hobby though isn’t it.
I have spent a ton of money over the last year trying to improve my vr experience so why stop now .
The company I work for is doing well. I’m hoping that my year-end bonus will allow me to persuade her that I’ve earned a new toy.
The crazy thing is that she has my old PC, which is actually a pretty decent gaming machine, but all she uses it for is email and surfing the web.
I wasn’t thinking about upgrading my 5k+ until I saw Swevivers pics . I didn’t think the difference in the SDE would be so noticeable . The SDE is always there when I look for it on the 5k+ .
Yeah, I see the SDE on my 8K. It’s really annoying at times. It’s worse is some games, one of which is Elite D, which is (unfortunately) the main reason I bought an 8K. I’ll probably get an 8KX, it’s just a matter of when.
I just hope they don’t bring out an Oled version 6 months later .
To be honest we are at the point of VR where I can say we are no longer a niche only for hobbyist to enjoy.
Even if your wives are not into gaming. There is Tiltbrush/ Virtual Desktop/ Being able to watch movies in full widescreen surround covering your entire vision. (Basically iMax at home)
OLED has both pluses and minuses (black smear). The LCD panels in my 8K don’t really bother me (not nearly as much as the SDE), so I’m probably a good candidate for an 8KX.
I think an OLED 8K-X would need a lens redesign for a lower FOV to maintain the angular resolution, since OLED is pentile.
I wouldnt worry until Pimax says that they plan new lenses.
Xtal has pentile 1440p but compensates with high panel usage, dynamic distortion correction, and very expensive optics.
Pimax is brute forcing with 4k RGB stripe
Im not ready to watch movies in VR just yet. I dont feel its ready. I am however planning to get a faux 4k laser projector for movies.
Oled comes in rgb too.
Ones i know of are Psvr had oled rgb, so did star vr & if you search there are more rgb oled screens being manufactured like this 2,228 ppi one

When they are a bit more readily available it will be a great time
Yes, I tried. Even if the image quality comes (which is still big if, 8KX can compete with fullHD projector, not 4k one), it is just too uncomfortable. Also without the proximity sensor the image just goes black (as watching movies I don’t move head) and we still don’t have solution for this simple annoyance.
Of course, I expected delays and what turns out to be impossible is a loss. But I also expected that what is met (gets to retail) will be delivered (that is one point of backing after all). I know better now (it was only 2nd kickstarter for me) and will most likely stay away from kickstarter in future.
