Pimax day backlash!

I already paid 200$ plus shipping for the Pimax controllers during Kickstarter. Pimax now is asking for another 179$ on top of that for the switch to Index controllers.
And as i said multiple times 279$ is the retail price for the Index controllers in the US, if Pimax oders Bulk they will get a special deal and normaly that is less and not more than retail.

Nope i am not complaining that Valve is producing them but if i would have known this from the start i would have not laid down the money on Pimax and the 1.0 Basestations and instead would have bought directly from Valve and in turn saved me some money. (same goes for the controllers)

Aha. So where is Valve selling LH2.0 basestations for 75$ a piece ?

If I do the math for my pledge, I can see the following:

8KX 699$ - well, not bad it seems if I listen to what the 8KX is supposed to bring to the table.

8K 499$ - I swapped for the 5K+, sold it a couple of months ago (for approx. 550$ but without the stretchgoals!) as I had the 8K loaner unit anyhow. So I have a 100$ coupon, can sell all of the stretchgoal deliveries separately or keep them as spare parts, and made 50$ on the deal, after havng used the 5K+ for a few months.

Basestations x2 160$ - I will get 2 base stations for the price of one, if I had to buy them from Valve instead.

controllers x2 210$ - no idea what I will get, I just thought what the heck at that moment when I decided to back them. I was and am unconvinced that Pimax will deliver quality on this part. Just a junk bond, so to say - but one I knew from the start would be doubtful.

10 m cable 70$ - doesn‘t seem overpriced either, looking at the market.

Hand tracking module 100$ - quite a good deal again (on a device I knew would be a gimmick for me and not something widely supported)

So all of the above seem decent to very good deals to me. And that is before I even take any if the stretch goals into account !

So excuse me if I cannot join the big party of folks crying themselves into sleep because Pimax ripped them off so badly. I got a damn good deal, but of course took the risk of them not delivering anything to me. I am happy that they do deliver eventually.

Wish I would have backed more as well but didn’t want to gamble that much.:+1:

This is what is needed for clarity. @PimaxUSA & @SweViver does the MAS come with all that is needed to attach to KS headset models? And do we at least get the new Face Mask with Cushions & nose flaps as was in the last KS update said.

I can’t see needing the comfort kit to mount MAS. And Can see comfort kit being something different.

Comfort kit is a different deal and it’s not required for the MAS. An extra face foam will be inside the box of the mas but it’s not the one from the comfort kit as they are different shapes/sizes. Comfort kit requires you to pull out the entire face cowling to install.

Not really. OSVR from Razor fizzled out due to a wide variety of issues. Over priced componets & software & hardware challenges left it incomplete. Razor abandoned this project completely but no surprise as Razer doesn’t seem to stick with a lot of things.

OSVR never finished it’s own tracking system. But did have some good models like software plugins. It was trying to be a good thing but failed to attrack needed Hardware Devs to release headsets.

Indeed. But was meant to be a launch base for Hardware devs to make headsets akin to MS’ WMR but never got the needed traction to press forward. It might have been different if Razer had actually themsellves released a Razer Headset themselves on the consumer space; instead of just an sdk/hdk launchpad.

Yes, OSVR failed.
But we must not tolerate it, we must move on, in any case.
Is not it so?
Pimax moves us in this.

Which is the unfortunate error in evaluating & making the Carrot offer.

Which is why they should have made better evaluation & offered a coupon(s) instead of a bold move to “give” eye tracking as a freebie. But unfortunately they created this mess by doing so.

This is (unfortunately) yet another instance in which Pimax has hurt themselves, which did not need to happen. If only they would think things through (or ask for advice beforehand).

When purchasing the comfort kit will it come with a spare face foam? I always like to have a spare, especially when I take the headset to conventions.

We can buy a spare for $49. :smirk:

Neil, not true, this is not one case. Let’s not talk about it.

Indeed, at some point you need to stop developing and release something, (while still developing in the background). It always sucks when next years model appears and makes yours out of date, but I’m also excited about the rate we are seeing new improvements at.

Do you have this discussion with your bank when they charge you $3 to use a competitors ATM? And then the competitor charges another $3? This is just the economics of business, pay more for convenience. Yes it’s unfair, I agree the costs appear out of thin air, but I don’t selectively discriminate against Pimax because of this.

I wonder at what point in development the DAS was split into 2 parts, MAS and Comfort Kit?

What a stupid comparison it’s up to you to use a competiors ATM and at least here in Germany they need to inform you about the cost before you use the machine. But yes if my bank would withold my money and is telling me i could use the competiors machine to withdraw money but that will cost me an extra 30$ on top of the usual competiors fee i would definitly have a word with them. This is not economics this is a ripoff.

Who uses cash anyway.
