Im not sure what the point of this video is. Theres no new information. No rlease date. No price. No update on the last batch of lenses. So are these update lenses or the same lenses as the YTers got and said don’t buy?

That was the Lenovo Mirage, even had 6DOF controllers in a dev kit, but in classic Google fashion was abandoned. They had a Quest 1 essentially 2 years earlier than meta but shifted gears to mobile AR (apparently a lot of those devs jumped shipped to meta and much of their talent went into the Quest 1).

I met several members of their AR/VR team based in London, soon after they were disbanded as Google started to wind down Daydream. Bunch of cool people and all had Vive and Rift at home

My fondest memory of mirage solo was “Bladerunner Revelations” with 6DoF head tracking :kissing_heart:

As I haven’t seen any mention of it in this thread, I thought I would mention that in the December firmware update, the high audio latency was finally fixed. Confusingly, it was referred to in the changelog as “Dual audio mode” for some reason, maybe because it’s an option that lets you choose between low latency and high latency. So that’s another point in the checklist that can now be marked as complete!

After the firmware update, the headset is still in high latency mode, so I had to manually select low latency mode to apply the fix.

Is there a perceptible difference in quality between the two modes, other than the lack of delay?

I just tested in Ragnaröck using the calibration tool there (and listened with my ears, which of course is totally subjective):

Standard mode (behavior on old firmware, now the default option):
~ 220ms latency, midrange and treble sound good, bass sounds good but is boosted a bit too much for my taste (the typical Dolby low shelf boost at below 100Hz, maybe +6dB compared to flat frequency response) so the bass sounds a bit too dense for my taste, but for off-ears it’s really good quality and probably most people prefer such a sound. Similar to Valve Index and HP Reverb G2, although I don’t have these headsets to compare with anymore.

Low latency mode:
~ 25ms latency, less bass than Valve Index and HP Reverb GP, and probably a gentle drop-off in the bass response if compared to a flat frequency response. The high mids (around 1kHz) has a slight boost that sounds a bit hard (opposite of soft) but it’s not distorted or anything like that, so I think it’s perfectly fine and better than any built-in VR headset audio solution except the Index and Reverb G2.

Here is a good read for understanding how alot to maybe most Chinese companies operate from a foreigner perspective.

How to survive in a Chinese Company

Should take a look for @yanfeng 's post on how business has changed in China. These 2 would compliment each other.

Found it!

I had the opportunity to check out the crystal on a short notice for one hour with a bunch of games. (running on a beefy rig) It was surprising how far Pimax have come in terms of picture quality after the desastrous and abandoned release of the 8k.

The pros:
Stunning display

The cons:
everything else
(at least what is important to me)

it is not only heavy, the whole construction still wobbles at fast head movements, just like the ol KS deluxe strap.

IPD adjustment did not work properly, had to add 2, just like i remember to fiddle with pimax‘s odd ipd math years ago.

the controller tracking had a tad of latency compared to other inside out controllers that i possess and tried.
(as a musician I‘m very sensitive to latency)
the grab button felt like cheapo ali express.

the fov which is/was Pimax‘s strong suit did not wow me.

i still have the odd feeling of a strange blackish object between my eyes like a small black bar (way less than on my 8k though)

the noseflap feels strange, almost ticklish in an unpleasant way.

A quest3 is not high end can not come even close to the crystal beautiful visuals, but it does everything well enough to be fun.

I really hope Pimax goes bigger Fov again + finds an innovative strap solution for the wobble issue. (I wouldn’t mind the weight) maybe kinda padding to the side of the head?
at this stage, although the tracking was okish, it‘s a way behind experience of every competitor.
There is still a long road ahead, I really hope they succeed in making it a more pleasant experience.

My experience is subjective of course.

it‘s always weird to see this kind of awards being dished out before the trade fair even has started, so they’re based on what, the good old trustworthy - marketing material?

But okay, after the Steam Awards just made a complete fool of themselves end of last year, I guess we just shouldn‘t assume awards have any further value and just watch out for hands-on reports.

Yeah weird, they even have a sign made up days before.
