Now that you had a chance to really test the 8KX, what do you personally think about it? Will it be your go to headset? I ask because I assume the hardware requirement will be greater, so a different headset might be preferred for more demanding games, at least right now.
Not true. A user mentioned these type of diagonal panels are often used in Projectors. And LG has 4k TVs with RGBW panels.
3DOF tracking exists.
Im mainly looking for any signal issues or other abnormalities during my testings right now. But from what I see so far, this is definitely my go-to headset now. The clarity and lack of SDE just kills the others. We are all different of course, but im picky when it comes to clarity and the 8KX also eliminates most of the aliasing, which still is present on 8K+ (even if 8K+ is faaar better than originnal 8K in every aspect).
Lowering the resolution to around 2800 or 3000 horizontal pixels is not more GPU heavy than running the 5K+ on PiTool 1 and SS 100%, and it still looks significantly better and sharper on 8KX.
More than 2 meters away and I can read the far top text of ROV test environment readability posters (the two almost identical on the right side). That tells a lot
Regarding OLEDs. Yes I know there are RGB OLEDs on the market. Probably also 4K OLEDS. There are even flexible OLEDs which I have personally seen and tested earlier this year. But that doesn’t mean they can automatically be thrown into a Pimax headset.
No the Artisan does not have OLEDs.
And regarding the never ending inside-out tracking rumours floating around, I never confirmed that at any point. But "some kind’ of new tracking maybe…
Even if put framerate to calculation?
I expected 8KX 75hz to have 7~8% more performance requirement than 5K+ 90hz.
Uhm… you mean something like ultrasonic tracking used for Vive Focus 6 DoF kit…?
Well, 75Hz helps even more of course. You need to render 15fps less. But no I was not even taking that in account this time
What i mean is, if u render an 3000x2600 image per eye signal, you will get the same amount of frames per second, no matter what headset you use. But that resolution still looks better on 8KX than on 5K+. So in therory, you can go lower in resoulution on the 8KX than the 5K+, but keeping a reasonable image quality. Same for 8K+ vs 8KX. I know it might sound weird, but the 8KX doesn’t really need full 3840 pixels horizontally to look great.
Hello there,
i wanne know if the colors are on the same level or better as the valve index, because on the pimax5plus i didnt like them…
Okay now I understand what you are talking about.
Then I can keep 100% rendering resoultion till 90hz comes out
Pimax Artisan will have hand tracking, not inside-out.
So the name Artisan is a good choice.
3DoF/Gyro…?
damn you’re right. 20 chars
Maybe Artisan will have inside-out capability through integrated hand tracking module. Just maybe…
PimaxUSA changed the topic to include ‘Entry Level Headset’
I wonder what would make it entry level besides price. Lower res ofcourse, but what about the tracking solution?
If they get inside-out tracking right, that would be very good, but not entry level. Or should we expect a sub-par 6dof experience?
Or maybe they scrapped 6dof all together to get the cost down.
Accelerometers could work maybe, maybe just good enough in most cases.
Price should be 249 then though.
Hello Sweviver,
Would you please stress test the cable? to insure that there are no problems in the future. Also use a cable management solution. And turn the headset a lot so that the cable is tangled up. And do this a lot to see how strong the cable is.
Thanks in advance.
Yes, entry level hmd…this is a big indication about the price. @PimaxUSA thank you for info ^^
We could imagine 349$ with 3DoF just like the 4k? It would be the 4k II. Very affordable with good performances.
Actually inside-out tracking itself is good for entry users.
Look at the base stations v2.0 and SteamVR compatible controllers. Controllers cost twice or more than touch controllers, and two base stations, which are $298, makes price-performance ratio of Lighthouse tracking really worse than competitors.
Pimax’s choice to adopt inside-out tracking for Artisan is fairly good decision.
Well, the existence of compatible controllers and tracking quality are other story though…
It won’t be priced that low and it will likely have 2 SKU’s, one intended as a drop in replacement for Vive and Vive Pro and one that is a fully featured package. I too was highly surprised to see it revealed.
Is it HMD only or something special can’t be revealed yet included?
A christmas theme picture published on tweeter and the website 2 weeks before christmas, and you tell us it accidentally got public and wasn’t supposed to release before january.
No offense but do you believe we are stupid?
