Pimax ARTISAN Discussion (Entry Level Headset)

Or maybe they could be outsourcing them?

Not if the Inside Out is 3rdparty partner. Then it is simply including a module as @mixedrealityTV suggested or incorperating it in the headset. Minimal resources. It might even be tied to the Hand tracking Module.

Ok, a shot at the Artisan specs and price:

  • 140 FOV
  • 120 Hz
  • 2 x 1600x1440 canted RGB stripe
  • No lighthouse sensors
  • Inside-out tracking (module)
    ?
  • 349,- plus VAT plus shipping
  • delivery: end of January plus delay

So - a few quick and simple question about the Pimax artisan.

  1. Will the IPD be adjustable in this new headset?
  2. Will there be any form of controllers for the Artisan?

I couldn’t see sde on my vive. I know a few people that can’t see sde. You can believe me or not. Rather not argue about this.

You probably have poor eyesight if you can’t see SDE

I could see the tracking being provided by a Nolo third party kit - I think Pimax offered that to 4K users to provide 6DOF tracking. It would definitely fit an “Entry level” VR headset, and that does include controllers.

I have 20/30 how is that poor? I’m 28 years old. It like people refuse to believe I can’t see it. I have no reason to lie. Probably my brain don’t care about it.

Funny, hard to believe.
With my OG Vive I could not gamble for 30 minutes and only saw SDE and was blind.

Maybe. An inside out module was mentioned ages ago.

Making an inside-out controller is much easier than a Triad based SteamVR controllers. Inside-out controllers work with passive LEDs, all the hard work is done by the cameras

Unfortunately the really hard work is done by the software guys who have to interpret what the cameras show them. That is a crazy tough task, ask HTC.

Is your review model 8k+ on its way to you yet ?

Nope. They keep delaying. I have no idea when I will actually get it.

Demoed yes. But Leap had issues of their own. Company buys are not usually a very quick process & more often not that smooth of a transition.

A company I was working for their water case’s film supplier was bought out. The new owners messed up the Film’s properties. Of which caused a variety of issues from case manufacture to Palletizing the product. Cases would continue to slide after the conveyor stopped; causing massive problems of damaged cases & lots of downtime.

The company as a result started to source the film elsewhere & gave their supplier a window to fix these issues.

Yes as you get older you lose the higher frequency’s, if you are just getting a little deaf you get hearing aids. same as if you sight is beginning to deteriorate you get glasses.

I was about 40 before I got reading glass, never even realized how much SDE My monitor had untill I put them on.

But why have a new model HMD if its only a module, you could fit that to any of the Pimax HMD`s.

They first send Artisan and then the module
