The leaks were not exactly a public event either, were they ?
I recall that Ben defended himself a couple of months ago when there was another outcry about the slow or no coverage of Pimax. And then RtVR published more on it in the time after that. The last I saw on RtVR however was written by Scott Hayden, not Ben.
I have to assume that the guys are busy with other stuff and did not closely follow the events of the weekend. Hell, they may simply be on holidays, or who knows, perhaps Oculus is presenting some stuff to the press ahead of the OC5 in three weeks and they did not have the time to duly go through all the information which transpired since the weekend.
I had expected them to cover it by now, I admit, at least in terms of ETA of delivery and the 5K+ option. But there may be less conspirative reasons than them being pre-occupied towards the big guns, etc… which cause this delay.
At this stage I actually do not care so much about it because within a couple of weeks we will have the beta testers’ reviews in public and even better, the first backers will start to post their impressions - that will beat any coverage on a VR website.
I agree with both of you. It should be covered as most of the news is public however it was a private meeting. So a bit of a conundrum.
The problem is more likely that
A) Pimax have not released a press release after the event for journalists to report on.
B) RoadToVR would probably rather write a report from more factual information and not promote a semi-competitor like MRTV interview. Which is just news-duplication.
C) Trying to write a report on backer opinions is messy. As been noted with 5k vs 8k debate. It would be opinionated.
D) Pimax have refused to comment directly to journalist requests.
Read the articles more carefully. RdToVR was one of the last to report on the leaks.
You don’t think pimax would have involved him eith a more recent model than the v5 if he didn’t hold their respect & confidence. He was the one that helped boosted them with the v1 8k coverage saying the 4k impresses.
its not like i am calling for peoples heads for not covering beloved pimax. i just suggested that for whatever reason they were sleeping on story, and to tweet them politely to say what happened and ask them to shine a light on it.
how did this turn into a contentious issue.
Also i cannot get my head around the idea that it being a private meeting should have anything to do with whether it is reported on. Is there literally any other situation in reporting where reporters would refuse to report on a newsworthy story on the fact that a meeting happened, or the results of that meeting, because it was private.
I want you to really consider that.
There is only one question worth asking from this thread.
Were the events in berlin newsworthy. If you feel the answer is yes, by all means fire your favourite vr or gaming publication a tweet asking them to cover it.
I would imagine most are waiting for official details to be released. Ie Ben might be waiting for the 16 before releasing an article. Or simplt still organising his article it hasn’t been that long since the berlin event.
I suspect we may see articles of some kind by week’s end.
Because as far as I know, Pimax did very little to zero talking at the event except an exclusive by MRTV in Chinese.
I know what you mean though. There could be a piece on backer opinions until Pimax officially announce something otherwise it is just rumor / 3rd party opinion which like I said, can be messy. They may ask you to unquote them after writing a report etc.
I was gonna say something in relation to Pimax and press today lol. Just wanted to say, Pimax MUST ship the 8k to Jacksepticeye. Why you ask? Because he likes vr a lot. Always says that he can’t wait for better headsets with bigger field of views. He even made an entire video on the TPCAST! So with the pimax i am absolutely sure he will love it more than his OG vive and 100% make a video on it. Imagine how much that would benefit Pimax? guy gets 1 mil views on average per video. No brainer. Would be a HUGE boost for pimax IMO. Get on it @deletedpimaxrep1
And any other big youtuber who likes vr really. But jacksepticeye (however you spell his name lol) needs to be a priority.
Again, i feel like very strange boundaries are being set in very strange places for reasons which dont exist literally anywhere else in journalism.
Why wouldn’t they report on what was announced in the mrtv interview. It’s a 20 min interview with the head of the company. It does not get much more official than that, and i see no reason to discount it .
There are 50 articles a day in the media in the format of X said Y in an interview with Z. Polygon will report on something revealed in a rock paper shotgun interview. fox news will report on something said on a cnn interview. etc etc
This is a very fair point in terms of pimax’s pr strategy generally. building a relationship with tech savvy influences would be a really good idea long term. This being said, until they are shipping entire sets they would need to have non vive owners picking up vive controllers and base stations, so they may be holding out a while before going down that avenue.
Yeah but jack septic already has a vive so he’s covered. Actually, all big youtubers who have Cr vids on their channel have vives with basestations and controllers. Like 90% of them.
Only guy I’d stay as FAR AWAY from would be Linus Tech tips as he hates vr and always criticized it no matter what lol…
i guess what i am getting at is, do you as pimax, want jack to tell people to buy 8’ks tomorrow, along with vive controllers and lighthouses, or do you want jack in 6 months to tell everyone to buy the 8k full set along with probably much more user friendly piplay software.
if i was pimax former is great for early buzz but does not maximise profits for pimax. pros and cons to both.
It’s strange to me that not one of the big outlets has even mentioned it. I believe if the meet up was a disaster and the pimax heavily criticised by all who attended Berlin…then all those aforementioned vr sites would have posted something by now.
Well they certainly where faster with that negative illegaly obtained information that was old and outdated at the time. That was my point.I’m Curious to see what they will report these days…
If it’s constructive then i’m more then happy to revise my opinion.
Vr focus are looking into the berlin event, as they didn’t know anything about it. They are reaching out to pimax for a press pack. I more or less told them best of luck with that but linked them to the interviews etc.
also they want @Pimel to know they are being watched very carefully.
