So, just bend over is your message? Because its manufacturing and its hard? Lol come on man.
I am glad the 8k X unit will fix the problems with native resolution in Q2 2018. But @deletedpimaxrep1 Why didnt Pimax just tell us this information durring IFA?
Jimh54 You said you have worked in engineering and manufacturing?
Riddle me this: What is the 1st rule of proper engineering and scailing up to mass manufacturing?
Build the best product you can for the lowest cost per unit while maintaining the highest quality producf you can.
The current non native 8k prototype unit has all the internal components required to drive one single 4k panel at about 75hz, possibly 90hz.
The company is already churning out 4k hmds (ie tooling for their displays, lenses, housing, etc.is already going full tilt for the 4k, and they are slowly getting QC under control.)
Why should reasonable people be excited to buy the beta unfinished 8k kit when Pimax could literally just upgrade the 4k unit to make a gen2 giving us a completely badass HMD that would cost them less money to make, and the consumer less money to buy?
If they want to offer me an 8K X unit that has 200 degree FOV, native 4k DP 1.4, and lighthouse tracking in Q2 2018, thats amazing. But how does this help their backers today? What if the company ends up like Sixsense, and cant deliver.
I’m worried that Pimax is using customers as alpha testers again, just like they did with the 4k unit. I was here last year, and the 4k was not a good hmd yet.
Lots of tweaking and a year of community feedback, and now the current 4k is a bit better.
BUT THE ABILITY IS THERE TO.MAKE THE 4K INSANELY BETTER.
The rub is that Pimax today has the means to sell us a finished, polished, fully featured 4k HMD with native 4k resolution 75hz, 110 degrees, roomscale, and controllers.
That HMD would have every feature we as a community have all wanted for a year, but they are opting for the same flawed approach that they took last year. Where is the engineering sense there?
