Agree it feels not optimized for vr and the graphics feel low res, and a weird thing, if i change the resolution in the video menu meant for the desktop mirror, the res in the hmd get worse too, i can’t set it higher then HD quality of my monitor and i suspect now it renders just at HD quality for the HMD. Its like playing with Vorpx.
Can you check if you have the same problem with changing the resolution? Does it feel like low res on your 8k?
Gamepad support? Or is it like The Forest VR?
Yes, there is no optimization.
I only tried it for 5 minutes while the update came out.
Yes, the resolution did not seem very clear.
Now I will still test, try to configure better. (Maybe switch to Small FOV.)
I also want to configure walking not on the trigger, but on the touchpad.
It seems to be possible to re-bind actions in SteamVR …
the keyboard is working. But the mouse does not work. (it’s not clear how to rotated there without a mouse)
The gamepad has not tried it yet.
Oke thanks, i’m curious to know. Tomorrow i will look further into it.
Yeah moving is a bit anoying right now, i’m lefthanded and would like it different too, like in skyrim, but its not possible yet
played it for more than an hour.
best settings for 2080ti/7700K@5GHz:
Ultra
High
Med
Med
Med
Ultra
Ultra
Ultra
Texture should be on Ultra, makes a huge difference in overall quality and does consume less than 7GB of GPU-MEM so far.
I turned the distance level (and the other one) also from the default 75 to 100 in the Video-Menu.
Tried SteamVR-SS up to 200%. This really enhances the overal clarity in the med to far distance but at high fps cost. because i could not avoid 45fps motion compensation anyway - even at low option setting (200%SS though) i settled in the above settings and SS @ 150%.
Was a great experience. But i will save it for later (2Years?) when better GPUs and/or Foveated Rendering are available to drive my then hopefully received 8kX
Edit: used my VIVE Pro with Gear-VR-Mod and used Index-Controller - working fine
#2: forgot: AF:4, TAA, HBAO:low
this game really needs TAA or else it is a shimmering mess…
So CPU-bottlenecked? Is something like that reflected in the frame timing graph?
So basically my 9080 ti will blow up if i use it
Gamepad and mouse/keyboard both show in the controllers menu but so far gamepad not working. Maybe an upcoming patch? Oculus controllers work perfectly.
Others are reporting big problems in VR. And the studio are dropping daily hot fixes. I reckon they were behind when it came to release and just dumped VR as is, planmed on patching it after.
Let’s see what they manage to do with it.
On the Index it looks very low res, on the Reverb it didn’t even start… A bit disappointing
Yes, at times, during the movement, sudden jumps in the CPU response time to 80ms occur.
The load on the CPU at these moments increases to 80-90% (8600k 4.9Ghz).
Immediately felt subsidence FPS.
Nevertheless, even when you stand still, and the CPU load is negligible , the target frame rate is not achieved(72hz). In this case, the GPU is loaded with 50-60 percent.
I’m tired of tuning, to be honest. Even at minimal graphics settings, these jumps in CPU response time occur. (although rare)
Yes, and by the way. PP in this game is necessary for any smoke, fog. They look unnatural without PP. (but this is a trifle compared to overall performance)
It looks like that with PP on, with it off it’s crisp, but then grass is messed up
In general, it was possible to eliminate frequent jumps in the CPU response time to 80-90-100ms.
Now they are basicallyup to about 30ms, and they are practically invisible. There are no more sharp drops in FPS, the game is not freezing
To do this, go to the game folder:
Open the file TKGRAPHICSSETTINGS.VR.MXML with notepad. (D:\Games\SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\No Man’s Sky\Binaries\SETTINGS)
It is necessary to find the line
“NumHighThreads” value = “2”
“NumLowThreads” value = “4”
(As you can see, for some reason the meanings are confused, apparently, it should be the other way around.)
The numbers need to be swapped.
“NumHighThreads” value = “4”
“NumLowThreads” value = “2”
(I personally set
“NumHighThreads” value = “6”
“NumLowThreads” value = “2”.
for a 6-core processor, but it seems that the value “6” does not particularly affect.)
The game became much nicer without these sudden braking. For some reason, these default threads are incorrectly assigned. Because of this, I had sharp subsidence FPS. (however, this does not give a higher FPS, but the experience becomes much smoother, which is important)
I’m playing it but the performance is really bad and some foliage doesn’t render at the proper depth, sort of a double vision bug. I’m guessing this might be exclusive to pimax.
I would say that it is unfortunately. The RiftS is rendering normally.
Apparently there a fix to fps somewhere in steam community in no man sky.
Edit-
Pretty choppy release as expected, but showing loads of potential. Give hello games a couple of weeks they will iron out some of this stuff. Took a while for the ‘NEXT’ patch to improve.
Definitely needs PP if you don’t want weird plants, graphics settings seem to do very little for me, there seems to be something else wrong in their setup, which that steamcommunity post seems to allude to. Desktop settings shouldn’t be affecting the VR game all that much, but seem to be.
Main issue for me is that the HUD just constantly faces forward, when I just want to physically turn around.
Also, it puts a huge notice up in the middle of the screen if you move from where you are standing, this one is really bugging me, you can’t even duck down without getting it.
Has anyone tried any other headsets? is Pimax having any specific issues we need to report?
The settings were strangled on reddit (as if for proper operation in VR).
I don’t know, I have not tried it. (it looks quite strangled. HBAO gives a good effect, but they have it turned off)
I would not want to play with such settings. (I’ll try this “magic” combination the evening maybe)
Minecraft is cool in VR! Played it on the Odyssey- and I saw there is a RTX mod for it
