Do you want real colors or over-saturated? I am for real representation and you can work from there (eg on Pimax you can oversaturate if you want). The sky on Rift S looks unnatural and I would not want it like that.
In the Video with the VR Legion guy Seb mentions that his G2 is non final and has a too bright screen, which needs to be dialed down before releasing it.
But still he seems to be so impressed.
And the 8kX he does not compare because it is a pre-production unit? His G2 is, too - with stated flaws.
His affiliate link for preordering the G2 tells me that he is obviously not as unbiased as he always states.
Again: He is so flushi about the colors when it is obviously a not final brighness setting. that confuses me. Whitin pitools we do have at least control about brightness by ourselves. He could also play around with it to optimize. But he doesn´t.
Yes, this is assetto corsa and not project cars 2 but for clarity
the winner is Pimax 8K X
For example I can’t read the plate numbers of vehicles in Sebastian video of g2
only when your car is hitting the car ahead
About colours, colours of Pimax 8K X are magnificent:
the brightness is too low but this is an early video of assetto corsa
probably made before CES 2020
g2 will lose some brightness
Pimax is still working on 8K X firmware
I just want to see one thing,
The sharpness and color improvements, this is the part where seb prefers over pimaxs extra fov. And in the previous video of dennis he preferred the extra fov over vive pro oled but small fov.
I want to know why, and a simple comparison video of g1 vs g2 could show these, but I dont know why he doesn’t feel like including g1 doing it.
I have told my brother to get possible the g2, but any info on improvement over previous iliterations would nice.
My experience is that sharpness depends alot on game engine. PC2 i can not get sharp. descriptions below switches in the center console are blurry and not readable. no matter how close i get or how high the ingame settings or steamvrss is. I heard about a sharpening filter .ini setting. need to check that.
He should compare all headsets in The Lab. the sharpness of the 8kX in the lab is crazy. And he should state the steamvrss vertical pixel resolution for comparison. best would be to dial it all in at a similar value. A comparison without that info is useless. even the steamvrss % value is useless because it alters with steamvr versions and pitool updates.
How he can state that there is “No” steamvr supersampling is also out of my grasp. But of course i am nitpicking here.
That sounds like a texture issue - the game just doesn’t have hi res enough textures, but the switches are not used in game so what the description says is just fluff, as long as you can read the dials that should be sufficient
sounds logical. 20202020
Great news for G2 owners and Flight Simulator fans.
If they make this WMR native/exclusive instead of SteamVR/OpenVR then they have a killer app for the G2.
But it would be a pity of course for all others. Well, depends whether it’s just an initial thing or supposed to stay that way: “[support for] other headsets [isn’t] out of the question” sounds a little like “we’ll see what we (can/)want to do”.
Edit: It sounds a lot more positive in the original interview: “Developers tell Polygon that work on adding compatibility with additional VR headsets — including HTC, Oculus, and Valve’s own devices — will begin soon after the Reverb launches.”
VR Legion also report that the G2 support is initially only in the MS Store version, not the Steam version. So one might have to take care where to preorder.
While VR support isn’t exclusive to the headset it will make its first appearance there before rolling out to other headsets. “We’re starting with them,” Microsoft’s head of Flight Simulator Jorg Neumann told Eurogamear. "There’s some extra work to be done for some of the others. I mean, we’re going to bring it to all the devices - all the common ones. It’s just going to take a few more months after that.
Unfortunately you can’t. I didn’t try any other Pimaxes apart of 5k+ & 5XR but on these the colours setting just crushes colours, it doesn’t saturate it, it changes it.
Same case with 5KXR on contrast 0/0/0 settings they look natural & good but way too dim & dull, if you start increasing contrast colours lose all the quality & correct look, they start to look wrong but bright. On e.g. Index colours look very good, it’s the only LCD HMD (used rift s, pimax 5k+, index & then said I won’t buy other LCD HMDs but perhaps I will) I use that has ok colours (blacks are bad though as expected).
On this video Index colours look so weird. They look the way they shouldn’t look IMO too pale.
This is so huge !!! I absolute love the visuals of the alpha, when I flew a round over my former home town (Hamburg) it was just really astonishing ! That is to say, as long as you restrict yourself to downtown, the outskirts are unfortunately only filled with procedurally generated buildings which look much more like the old school flight sims (not much AI enhancements there, I have to say).
I will need a good yoke, that’s for sure. I had been thinking of the Honeycomb or the Yoko+. But as I am supposed to learn flying in real life since (but haven’t sat in the plane a single time yet - thanks a bundle, Covid-19!) I wanted to wait until I have a better feel for who it feels in reality. Seems the Yoko+ offers a more genuine feel. And forcefeedback systems are apparently not that convincing yet (Brunner & co.) …
Any recommendations ?
I have no clue about judging realistic flight controls. Some guys from the StarCitizen community praised the Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog.
The Warthog is absolutely a good recommendation, but for a Hands on Throttle and Steering system (HOTAS). I should know because I‘ve got it and enjoy it very much with e.g. Elite Dangerous.
A yoke is what you will find in small civil aircrafts like a Cessna or Piper. The real issue at some stage is where to store all of this hardware…
Hi Mr. UU. I have stated that many times but it is fine to repeat it again. I could also have used a Pimax Affiliate link for any of my videos. The Pimax Affiliate program is way more attractive, at least 5fold. But I chose not to partake in it because I cannot fully recommend the product.
For the G2, I do not like it because of the affiliate link. I put the affiliate link because I can absolutely recommend the product. That’s a huge difference.
Moreover, all is perfectly transparent.
Bye, Sebastian
Don’t worry much about yokes. More and more civilian planes are transitioning to sticks as well, and with fly by wire becoming a thing in more modern jets, the slightly toyish feel of them is there anyway.
If you’re going for PPL only, same thing applies, just stick forces will be felt, but there is pretty much no reason to get a super expensive yoke. I have flown mostly yoke-equipped planes and have no problem transitioning between a yoke and HOTAS setup, so I wouldn’t get too fixated on a yoke if I were you.
Get a good stick (Warthog and upwards) and you should be all set, both for flying for training purposes but also for gaming stuff. HOTAS + pedals is a lot more practical than a yoke.
The point is, as you assume corretcly, I am going for a PPL(A) and the planes we have over here are so ancient, that you are actually glad when it has a yoke and you don’t still see the original scribblings of the Wright brothers on the wooden cockpit… and in order to have the immersion factor of similarity I would like to have a yoke and not use my HOTAS for it.
After all, when I use FS2020 (still hardly can believe we actually got the confirmation of VR !!) I will just be cruising above those areas I know well, especially if they apply the better photogrammetry data or perform the boring VFR flight from A to B which before I started with the lessons would have seemed the least sexy way to spend my time (because I had not idea of aircraft navigation and using VOR’s etc.).
I hope they will work out something neat for hand-tracking too, as it would be absolutely awesome to be able to actually operate the switches in the plane. But I am getting ahead of myself, that will not happen that soon. The G2, apparently the only WMR headset they consider worthy of FS2020, does not have any hand-tracking support anyhow, neither do the other WMR headsets. But within 2-3 years that may become a standard feature of Inside-out headsets, so it could easily be implemented then.
//OT end
I started with gliders but since addictions do what they do, I ended up being “forced” further up the ladder of aviation just to be able to afford being continuously “high”.
I would seriously recommend a stick over a yoke. A stick is cheaper, takes less desk space, more versatile. And VFR is only the beginning, sure, sightseeing is nice and all, especially with those graphics, but the rush you get form pulling off something hard like a complex IFR approach in bad weather at night is simply a world above that, even if you don’t get to enjoy the landscape as much.
Also, for civilian flightsims, especially in single pilot ops, you’ll be using the autopilot quite a bit, at which point the choice between stick and yoke becomes even easier.
For hand tracking, I believe the coming years will bring a lot of innovation. Pimax have their hand tracking module, there is LeapMotion with a new module coming out, the Quest can track hands in software. Give it time, good things are coming.
I heard different story - on this expensive metal hotas you have to apply significant force to push stick to start it moving. So precise control is quite problematic due to this issue many people prefer other options. I got logitech X56, would say it kinda ok but for sure metal thing should feel better, I guess there are some tips how to alter Thrustmaster Hotas Warthog behaviour by hardware mods.
I partly understand that. You could still participate on Pimax Affiliate Program as far as you give a honest preview and point to its flaws.
Still wondering how the G2 picture is so much better than from other hmds but at the same time the brightness is “way too bright” and needs to be dialed down before release?
