MRTV: Pimax 8K vs Pimax 5k Plus: SDE & Quality Comparison At Maximum Quality Settings & Supersampling On

Yes sir, since pimax 5k is very comparable in terms of SDE to the Vive Pro. See Voodoo’s pics, Vive Pro looks considerably better a couple of times.

To cut a quote from Mr. Plinkett: “You may not have noticed… but your braain did” :stuck_out_tongue:

This was one of the points at the back of my head, though, and closely related to where I believe you were sidetracking with the textures thing: You have people who don’t like high framerates in the cinema; It looks too real for their sensibilities - the realistic smoothness, and the highly reduced (no longer needed) motion blur, as well as the better material for the brain to sample temporally, makes it all too obvious that that rider of Rohan’s chain mail is in fact just a knit jumper. :stuck_out_tongue: - When everything was a blurry, stuttery mess, they could let their imagination fill in the inclarities. :stuck_out_tongue:

I can easily admit that I find the cross-hatch SDE of the 8k more pleasing to the eye, than the strict rectilinear, blocky style of the 5k+, and it certainly helps with aforementioned “Shrödinger’s detail” ;), but if certain things that have been claimed are true, there can never be more actual detail to pluck out in the 8k - only detail that your brain glosses over, or interpolates (and here I generally disagree with sjef’s standpoint when it comes to upscaling. Again, though; We have seen, right on this forum, people who prefer their TVs’ upscaling lower definition content, to native lower definition, even though larger scale consensus is that such is a scourge :P).

…so is it better acuity, or better imagination? :7

Sorry this goes a little above @heliosurge’s head. He likes to discuss things like if you watch a HD show on a 4k TV if you can then call that upscaling or not. Can you explain that one more time please Helio?

Maybe I’m alone in this but I think I hate color banding more than sde.

Please stop trolling. The HTC Vive Pro was worse SDE than the 5K.

Here’s the high res shot (most of the performance videos aren’t shot through the lens but seem to be captured by fraps or similar tool):

Also, instead of putting words in his mouth, here’s what he reported:

Eh? And you feel that Pimax is the winner there in that part of the video you just linked?

I know you still don’t understand sub resolution 2 vs 3 sub pixels.

Maybe if someone releases a 4k pentile oled & upscales qhd input to 4k you will understand it.

Umm, I believe you have a little too much faith in me. I am really just some random layman with an unfortunate inability to leave the keyboard alone, like most of us. :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah. One of the things that makes the Rift rather unpleasant to use, to me (after the cramped FOV).

Yes, it’s kind of hard to understand all that pixel stuff and HD/4k tv’s you’re talking about. I should go back to reverse engineer pimax firmware and hack the panel’s config codes like I did with the Pimax 4k. That’s a lot easier to grasp.

Well he must be really good looking then . I wouldn’t marry him for his brains.

Yes. I don’t care about the 8K and whatever wrecked his photography of it. The 5K noticeably has less space between the pixels. And the text is easier to read. The color temps are closer to 6500K than I’d like, but I also hate the 2700K looking temps of the whites in the 8K and Vive Pro. But color temps are software changeable. Having a shit subpixel arrangement is not.

And… because you missed it the first time, please read:

Let me give you an example.

PiTool 2.0, SteamVR 100% on both:

Now THIS is what you will see in games.
I cant really say neither of them looks better than the other, but at least it gives you a more real-life example, instead of a black text on white background chart.

Hey Sweviver, I realized that Sebastian brilliantly added his logo to his comparison pictures. If these are going to be floating around the internet for a while why not give yourself a free plug?

8K on the left? 5K on the right?

What would you say?

Left has better blacks, and weird discolored pixels on the edges of the lines… so I’m guessing that’s the 8K.

Would different settings produce a better image of this for each HMD though?

I notice about this too, but have though that sweviver already seen sebastian image.

I think @SweViver should test other game like sebastian test in lastest video and use the same setting, then compare between both again.
