MRTV: Pimax 8K vs Pimax 5k Plus: SDE & Quality Comparison At Maximum Quality Settings & Supersampling On

Don’t know. Check out swevivers review at 1.21.05. by any measure it’s a very different result

Yes I will soon, but first I have another video Im working on for tomorrow most likely

Im not favorizing the 8K as I personally prefer the 5K+ overall, but besides from black text on white bakgrund, in many games you will notice the image details being in a higher definition on the 8K than the 5K+.

Let’s just say that every reviewer seems to have much of both guesswork and subjectivity behind their conclusions, and I may not necessarily rate them in every case. :7

Fair enough. Still we’ve identified a difference, now we just need to work out the variables. Interesting stuff!

I was gonna take a 5K+ and take the 8K as a loaner so I could compare the two. Now I wonder if there is even any point, I would rather have 2 beautiful 5K+ headsets in my living room, I don’t know why I would waste any time with the 8K.

If you consider his words. He prefers tge 5k’s clarity but the 8k has higher definition at times in details.

In that Developer’s blog he said VR games have been able to in the past get a way with lower texture models.

Many old regular games have Hi Res texture packs/mods available.

The 5k+ will likely be better for Most. The 8k being more Enthusiast as you want mgpu even with new gpus. But maybe not.

Be interesting if we can get advanced display properties if doable. Contrast, color temp & maybe sharp sliders. But no hmd i know of has these options so might have some complications implementing.

Still sticking with 8k, the higher contrast in “MY” opinion (I respect everyone else’s) will be more desirable because you don’t view these stills this up close. pause the video during the text/font example and walk away from your pc screen and look. The distance influenced by the better contrast of the 8k will sharpen the image. just because you can zoom into something doesn’t mean it’s better at the zoomed level. There are too many other factors that come into play when viewing from a distance. That said, I respect and appreciate mixed reality’s opinion and efforts. You guys did so much leg work for us backers…! We can’t thank you enough!

Developer’s blog?

(…and where does the matter of us crossing the point where we can more easily see texels come into the picture?)

Either way: From all we’ve heard, there should be real physical matters, making certain claims impossible, from a purely objective standpoint. Taste, on the other hand, differs wildly, and many prefer blur, for example (however crazy that seems to me :P).

I’ll admit there was a bit of getting off on a bad start, with me, when the old sin was perpetuated, of muddying the waters by adamantly calling the radius below critical focus falloff: “sweet spot” (The actual sweet spot, would be the (EDIT: …ideal…) position of the eye, in relation to the lens (EDIT2: People began to confuse the two because of how you get the best of the former, when at the latter, and the common context didn’t always give them all the information needed to get the distinction)).

We are definitely going to need some way to deal with the white balance and contrast of the 5k+, because those detract tremendously IMHO (the 8k, meanwhile is a bit too warm, but not terribly so). :7

How can 8K go from this

To this (at the highest quality). It might be hard to capture the through-the-lens screen? I don’t know.

Maybe I shouldn’t exaggerate and just conclude 8K just look shitty!! End of conversation LOL.

Good question.

Distance? :7

(maybe also more supersampling than the algo cares to make use of…)

A moving image your less likely to notice blurring. Consider your TV if it’s 4k. Do you have all the channels you watch or for that matter anything watched in 4k input?

If not you are upscaling. Depending on what your doing the bluring might not be noticed. But some with higher visual function will notice things that most miss.

Hearing for example some do hear below what is supposed to be normal.

But if your not enthusiast with a high budget for toys. The 5k+ will give potenially a better day to day ecperience. But there is always a secondary risk in a years time the 8k software might show enough improvements to upscaling if the algorithms are not fixed & can be programmed in the firmware.

But that becomes the risk taker as the reverse is also true. But sweviver has already mentioned here some improvements to the upscaling. But it can never on a technical level be better than native input sharpness.

This just comes down to individual preference on visual aquity.

LOL. You do realize @jojon actually knows what he’s talking about?

If you guys see sweviver reply he said there a bug with the new pitool update. It bugged for the 8k

So do I. I have a 4k TV. 4k looks sharper than other input resolutions if you look for it.

LOL, you could have fooled me

Maybe it would be best to test the same scene on each headset and do not use the same settings for both but instead use the settings that result in the best picture quality for each headset. Then let us know what the settings and fps were. This is more along the lines I am looking for to make a decision.

I know you think the the 4k rgb is good to compare to oled pentile with a third less sub resolution.
