MRTV HP Reverb G2 Preview

Thats why new video shown only fast movements - with slow precise move WMR HMDs are not so great.

That’s okay. See, in the use case I am describing only the two forward facing cameras are used. This is because the controllers are held in front, one close, one far. For example, when you hold a rifle in VR, the controllers will be placed there.

For example: The tracking in the Reverb Pro v2 (and the Odyssey) was so “bad” for these cases, that it was the initial reason for me to link up my Index Controllers with them. The WMR’s held steady at first, yes, but they kept weaving around a bit a third of the time. In this example, a third is enough to throw your aim off a lot so you’ll die instead of hitting the enemy. It can be nerve-wrecking. I just feel this should be mentioned. I also have the Reverb G2 on pre-order, but I am skeptical in that regard as we haven’t seen tests or videos on that issue yet.

Well I don’t know if it has become more accurate in that sense, but like I said, more cameras COULD definitely yield more accurate tracking. It’s too bad MRTV didn’t talk about this though

Yes could, but wouldn’t, in this case. Only the two frontal cameras are used for that case, on the Reverb G2 as well. Both controllers are in front, occluding each other.

For VRChat fine, but shooters are suffering from what I explained earlier. You won’t see this in the rough videos we’ve seen, as it wasn’t tested for. Only in very fine through the right-eye-captures, when aiming through Iron-Sights at targets at >30m range.

It’s an interesting video possibility for Sebastian to make tbh.

That would depend on the exact position and the camera angles. In positions where 3 cams can see your controller, tracking could at least theoretically, become more accurate. But yeah for shooting games its’ likely only 2 cams can see your controller

I know what you mean , that 1-2% in the tracking is the difference between coming nowhere or top few in most shooters , Using lighthouse tracking with wmr is ok but such a pain to forever set up after every little update . Having said that , I pre-ordered already , the G2 headset will be great for a quick google earth session or flight sim

The real way to compare tracking yould be to put some Vive Tracker on those WMR controlers and then compare the delta of the relative path. We already know the vive tracking system is at mm precision in best case
could be an interesting Lab project…

The thing with inside out tracking is that everything positional fluctuates more imo , the lighthouses are a rock solid point of reference to build on .

Unless there is some markers on the walls, the IOT have no fixe reference except maybe the magnetomer wich also drift in time…
but never the less they do the job in what 80%-90% of the games if your’e really picky? Imperfect as it was the OD+ tracking still impressed me when I had my OD+

I had some night lights dotted about the room
for the reverb

It’s about the user. He’s not picky if his favorite games simply happen to be First Person Shooters like Onwards, Contractors, or Pavlov.

Then those are the 10% to 20% games not covered by my comment

It is quite likely the g2 tracking maybe on par or better than Rift S.

actually he did not. he said that even if they were the same price he‘d choose the g2 over the 8kx (preproduction model) without hesitation

… And miss out on all the extra features that the Pimax headset offers?

  • Wide FOV
  • Eye-tracking
  • Hand-tracking
  • Modularity in general
  • Upscaler (120Hz)
  • SteamVR tracking
  • and so on…

Hmm… :upside_down_face:

I would understand saying something like that given the price difference and for some seated gaming it might be true, but come on… That just seems like a silly thing to say given all the benefits the Pimax headsets come with (if the price was the same)…

Well I am going to rely on my own judgement watching any type of reviews videos.
Because ppl change, motives change, circumstances change. I have no way knowing if they are totally unbias or not. today, or tomorrow.

they are quite entertaining to watch though.

its quite interesting what will be sacrificed to go back to this, is it worth that much?

Most likely not, but overall I still think the 8KX with all the possibilities it brings with it’s modularity, is still number 1.

as I already have lighthouses and wands (and considering index controllers) the WMR controllers are less of a bother to me, you can use valve controllers with WMR headsets in SteamVR, as long as the headset itself tracks ok then its all cool

Hmm … to be fair on that list the 8KX (preproduction model) doesn’t have:

  • Eye-tracking
  • Hand-tracking

I believe even in the production model they are optional extra’s, so personally think it’s fair to compare base models. Maybe review those parts when they arrive :upside_down_face:

Except you shouldn’t include HandTracking and Eyetracking as these are addons and not part of the headset package. As we know with the X only has 1 port for modules.
