I think you should definitely include a headsets full capabilities in any comparison. Even if the base option does not include the eyetracking and handtracking it is still an OPTION for the headset that is not just a theoretical idea, but an actual product that should be ready for shipping soon. The 8KX does have those options and the G2 does not. The eye-tracking component seems like a big deal to me, due to its driver level implementation. If you are evaluating which headset to get then all factors should be considered.
There is however I believe there is 3rdparty ET that might be able to be used in the g2 or other gen1 fov headsets.
As for handtracking who knows it might end up having that too depending on camera capabilities similar to the Vive Pro. Simply too many unknowns. But we do know that standard pimax does not have these features in the base model.
Otherwise we could also say pimax has wireless as well even though not released.
Imo none of pimaxs acessories should be taken into account until they actually exist in customers hands & are available to buy & get delivered.
Not even any audio solution other than the standard version.
Pimax have been promising this stuff for so long but have still not delivered.
I remember the first 5k & 8k reviews where people took into account the floppy strap being temporary & a better version would be coming soon.
After all this time, these 5k & 8k backer & owners still donāt have this deluxe strap & many have moved on from their pimax headsets.
Imo you cannot take into account a promise.
Especially with pimax track record.
These add-ons are always nearly ready & about to ship.
Some have been in this suspended promised state for years
But as you just stated the G2 MIGHT have those items. Right now there has been no mention of them in any capacity but the 8KX does have those items. A comparison between the known capabilities of the headsets canāt include eyetracking or handtracking for the G2.
Canāt include wireless for the pimax in the comparison because it is not a component that has been shown working yet.
Agree to disagreeā¦the eyetracking and handtracking are not promises IMO because they have already been shown and there is no reason to think they wonāt be released. Of course Iām not taking about timing because Pimax has shown that they can be really bad on anything timeline related.
Pimax still has not released those items either so until they do pimax has only the premise of those items until released.
You do know the hand tracking was shown at the start of original ks delivery dont you?
Even samples were sent out for reviews.
It was supposedly ready. Where are they? A year and a half has passed.
If you want to take into account a pimax promise then thatās up to you.
But Iāve learned my lesson again & again & again.
Fool me once, or was it twice, or three times, or more?
I really hope they are ready this time.
But Iāve been here before. Several times.
Actions speak louder than a million nice sounding words & announcements
This is paramount as many made a big deal that the Ridgit strap was soon to be out and never was soon to be released.
Handtracking was going to release almost in parallel to the headset and was why I pre bought it as it was a proven demoed item that would give me an option until pimax controllers were released in 3 to 4 months after the headset. Also never happened.
fair enoughā¦but in my personal evaulation of the headsets I will list eyetracking and handtracking as options for 8kx. Perfectly fine for others to ignore them if they like in their own evaluations
I think reviewers should be especially careful.
As they are in a way, putting their reputation on the line by taking pimaxs word.
If certain items donāt deliver, people who purchased said items might look back on those reviews a year or more from now & feel resentment
totally agreeā¦up to each person in their own evaluation of what headsets to get what to believe and not to believeā¦Iām well aware of Pimaxās poor track record on delivering items, but past is pastā¦and they have shown me enough on the eyetracking and handtracking recently for me to trust that they will in fact be released soon. Personally for me though, I donāt care about the handtracking nearly as much as the eyetracking.
Then as there is I believe a eyetracking 3rdparty unit that maybe used with the g2 and the original leap motion v1 hand tracking that can be used with any headset would also need to be included as options. It is also possible that TPcast and other wireless might be usuable with the G2 if not mistaken.
Want a better headstrap? Vive DAS and Vive Pro Adapters expand to non vive headsets.
In a way I agree. I feel a bit more hopeful this time.
But Imo hope that these items will deliver very soon, has no place in a review.
Another headset company I would cut the slack on this.
But Iāve cut slack for pimax too many times already.
This time it needs to be real.
- Wide FOV
Yes surely no doubt here - Eye-tracking
Not absoluty need if already at full 90hz and full definition - Hand-tracking
Limited use for now, really cool but limited - Modularity in general
Yes but we already seen limit of modular design over time. aka ET and HT not fully interoperable next iteration could brake all that. - Upscaler (120Hz)
cool but less resolution than the G2 and Index - SteamVR tracking
Yep but not always required - and so onā¦
Pimax support? Exchange fees because support in China, sometime flacky software ( getting better!)
Dynamic distorsion, alleged less colors, les brignhtness, less sweet spot
Hmmā¦
I ditch my OD+ because of the FOV and after using my 5K+ I still miss the OD+ for some usage. In flight sims I find my 5K+ really enjoyable but in others games not so much⦠Iām going in the MRTV clan where photo realism goes before the FOV⦠itās a choice, I fully understant that for some FOV is the numero uno criteria. I want OLED image quality before FOV. preferably bothā¦
to summerize OLED, Definition, FOV : I would be perfectly happy with a 140-150 degree headset with all those qualities
Market lacks modern OLED HMDs so badly.
Maybe Sony will do something decent for their upcoming HMD. I just wish it wonāt be a LCD one.
The only significant thing I can think about the G2 is not dealing with a terrible management team and Pimax Support.
And you get 2 years warranty.
i never touched with Pimax support, I guess for me personally it will be only the case if I will need a RMA, have 2 HMDs Pimax5k+ & XR, both bought from their distributor on Aliexress, fast shipping, good QA, no any issues with HMDs, no bad pixels nothing.
So just donāt buy from them directly.
I donāt know about their headsets. But there printer support is abysmal.
I get your frustration. To just say a sweeping terrible customer support is unfair I donāt know if I was just lucky but the time I needed support with my 8k they were brilliant. Heliosurge offered advice and Sweviver contacted me to say he would arrange a remote access to update my firmware later that day and they did. First class.
hp support was spot on when my G1 reverb did the flashing lcd show , very fast replacement , maybe because it was classed as business headset .
Also should say that Pimax were also spot on and very quick to send out a replacement cable
