Move here to discuss ‘Pimax Day 2’

Quick comparisons 8KX vs 8K + from SweViver (Pimax Day 2).

Summary

I’m not sure yet, but it seems to me that I will be completely happy with 8K +.
If you look on the other hand, then 8KX is two in one for $ 200 surcharge, and worth it.

But I’m afraid that 8KX will have to wait a long time (for example, by the spring of 2020), and it will be sad.
But 8K + can be received much faster if the Pimax statements regarding the sending dates are correct and will not be adjusted.

According to the upgrade plans, the most profitable here seems to be the update plan “as the current owner”, and all stretch goals will be intact for the same price as for a backer with the abandonment of stretched goals.

I see no reason to refuse LH 2.0 base stations and Pimax controllers, as transferring their cost ($ 300 on Kickstarter) to a simple discount of 8K + / 8KX looks extremely unprofitable.

As far as I understand, we can choose the upgrade plan as the current owners, despite the fact that we are backers? We’ll just get a discount of $ 150 for 8K + and $ 200 for 8KX (saving all backer positions).

We had lengthy in depth discussions about this possibility. The drawbacks to such a program go far beyond just logistics and personnel.

Weird if you look at Plan D(wich should apply to me) its the same price with opting out all of the stretch goals. So you will give them away for free!

Would you be so good as to bring we backers into the fold as to what led Pimax to this conclusion? I cannot for the life of me imagine what those drawbacks might be. It can’t be about money. Whatever cost accruing to Pimax to make sure their customers have working headsets is just the nature of selling consumer electronics.

@Possyguset asked an extremely pertinent question in the thread regarding this subject. What happens when people RMA an original 8K? Are you stocking the old, inferior panels for just such an event? What happens when you run out? Pimax is going to have to eat the cost when their products go awry. If I RMA my 5K+ (with the understanding that it’s going toward the cost of an upgrade) Pimax keeps it in perpetuity, if I fail to ever purchase the upgrade you still have my old HMD you could part out, etc. Please, inform your backers as to what these drawbacks are.

Thanks for the stream guys. Good stuff. @PimaxUSA @SweViver Is it possible to get some clarification on the tax charges wrongly being added to shopping carts?

I.E. is this a mistake and result of an incorrectly configured/beta e-commerce backend? I can’t see who these taxes would be collected FOR? Especially since Pimax have never done anything like that to date?

I’ve had a look into this. And as a Chinese company, Pimax are not registered for European VAT collection, and cannot collect VAT. Nor can they collect Chinese VAT from us. It is true we should perhaps be paying some form of VAT (unless we are VAT registered). But that should happen this end, or at customs, as I understand it. Please see quote below, and source.

"### Can I pay VAT to the Chinese supplier?

No, you should not pay EU VAT to any non-EU entity, as they are not VAT registered in the European Union.

Neither shall you pay China VAT, as the supplier in China receives a VAT refund when exporting products."

Thanks in advance for any help clearing this issue up!

If there is no mistake here, then this is the most profitable upgrade plan, almost similar to plan D, but with the preservation of the stretched goals of the backers.

Just get a $ 150 discount on 8K + or a $ 200 discount on 8KX, keeping the controllers and stations + all stretched-out targets  :+1:

@PimaxUsa, “Upgrade Plan for Current Owner” is valid for everyone, and the prices are correct, no errors? Can I start to draw it up already?

Just plan D does not contain any advantages in comparison with this, but only losses in the form of stretched targets.

hope we get some answers soon, normally these tech announcements should work as teasers and pre-order motivations (which worked for me :+1: ), sad that the store is not complete yet and they are understaffed to answer questions in time, they just miss the opportunity to convert the created demand into actual pre-orders.

yeah it seams the best option.l Did already exchange my lighthouse and handtracking for a gift card.

Why is there no summary, or forum post about all the info released in the video?
I don’t want to spend 1.5 hours watching that to get info that could be read in less than 5 minutes.

Also from all the comments it seems all this video was about is the new headsets and the upgrade options?
I can’t be the only one that doesn’t give a flying fck about that.
They haven’t even gone close to finishing what was promised in the kickstarter yet they are trying to get another $1200 out of our pockets.
F
ck me, I thought Pimax couldn’t get any more oblivious to the problems they cause them selves, yet here we are.

Im someone who backed a full package and now having to deal with paying another $180 (why is it so much anyway??) for controller ‘upgrade’, or waiting another 7-8 months to possibly maybe get a look at them (and then likely another delay).
As if that doesn’t suck enough they are even charging postage for these controllers, even though our controller postage was already paid in the kickstarter. they are just shipping valve ones to us instead of pimax ones, theres no difference so why are we charged more?

Yeah Kevin has said in the last livestream the reason the “upgrade” was $180 is because of shipping costs but now they’re saying you have to pay shipping on top of that? Doesn’t make sense.

This is interesting, do you have a reference?

It was in the video, he didn’t mention the price then but he said the extra fee was basically to cover the shipping costs. Then in the forum the $180 was thrown out.

Cheers. So yeah not too much info beyond new headsets/upgrade plans but a few nuggets.

I have only just had a chance to watch the first 45 minutes, unfortunately yesterday was the one evening I could not watch.

Unfortunately not a single question I have and posted was answered yesterday so far - I’ll watch the second half but can’t see any evidence that they discuss pre-orders there. None of the upgrade plans apply to me as a pre-orderer. I think I have to raise a service ticket, but I’m worried that despite promises to the contrary, I get nothing compared to backers. At which point I think I will have to bail on the 8KX because I was expecting something :frowning:

Does anyone have any answers or do I need to rely on a ticket (ugh):

I pre-ordered a 5k+, plus controllers and Basestations.

  1. What discount do I get upgrading 5k+ -> 8KX?
  2. Do I get a MAS anyway as originally promised to pre-orderers? If yes, can it be converted to a discount on the 8KX which includes the MAS anyway?
  3. I no longer want the LHs or BSs because I bought Index controllers from Valve. What happens now to my $300? Can I put the money towards an 8KX if I want to upgrade? Otherwise I would like a refund. I am not going to spend that money on either Pimax or Valve LHs and BHs.

Thanks in advance and adding @SweViver and @PimaxUSA :+1:

Yes the VAT must be fixed or explaned well before i finally place my order. We didn’t have to pay the extra VAT for the first headset so i’m surprised and Pimax didn’t mention it anywhere
UPDATE the extra tax is gone now in the checkout

Don’t forget that you still have the current HMD which is unconformable hence it will benefit for the Audio and Comfort kit.

Yes…

You do get the discounted upgrade option as a previous customer. https://store.pimaxvr.com/shop/product/vision-8k-series-upgrade-plan-for-current-owner-375
