They are right in this case
You’re right, nevermind
Nobody proved that.
I came with arguments, examples and facts. In return I only got some “no”, “you’re wrong”, “your examples don’t apply”, “I do what I want” and other nonsense. It’s even less interesting than debate about the poor directing qualities of Georges Lucas with a group of fanboys.
The only noticeable thing is “the mod/injector doesn’t use any copyrighted code”, I’m sorry but these are only words I’m not supposed to believe. Even if it’s true, as I said Rockstar has the right to ban, like Nintendo did with fan games.
Korgen is right, LR mods is like a “painting workshop” with the title “Paintings for Ferraris”… then Ferrari will come after him … that simple.
You also came with attacks and shouting. You believe Luke would not have an issue if he did not charge for his effort. Some others disagree with your assessment. Show me the legal copy of the" cease and desist" order that proves that alleged FACT please.
In absence of that, give it a rest as everyone has a right to their opinion.
As I see it, this would need to be settled in court. Not by anyone here. When that becomes like “farting against thunder” then it’s time to live with it for now and move on. Like maybe this thread should do.
I told how it goes in mod communities and companies. If you charge for a mod, you wake up the ogre, if you don’t they tolerate. That’s a tacit agreement.
If LR had implemented a voluntary donation system instead of imposing a subscription, rockstar would certainly not have asked for the removal of mods, that’s all.
You like to speak with certainty. Has Rockstar made such a comment?
Did they ban free mods ? No !
Open your eyes and you’ll see by yourself.
Except it is not Artwork. Much like when Revive Authored claimed pimax was using his code. Which is false.
How do I know? Pimax in the early days had 2 Oculus runtime/modes. Revive redirect Oculus calls to something steamvr understands; much like how Opencomposite acts as a compatibility layer to allow Steamvr games played without SteamVR running.
Pimax’s Oculus compatibility does not use Steam and runs so to speak natively.
LR mods are more like changing the Stereo/speakers or adding a gps. The paint example was never a good comparison.
Except it is not. There are mod managers like VorpX and things like Tridef etc… They all change how a game renders to give new ways to play. And yes they were not universally compatible with all games; having games added later on.
So really all LR would need to do is make a collection of mods and wrap it in a mod launcher like VorpX and other 3d vr injectors.
Really what it comes to moronic compsnies like Rockstar/Take 2 are free to issue vague dmca notices for things that do not infringe on copyright. Losing future sales they would have had due to renewed interest in what can be said are dead titles that are not really selling much any more.
And yes Rockstar has gone after a variety of free mods. It is ashame after having bad rep for poor quality ports and legally bought games on CD requiring people to have to find parts of the game missing on installation.
Now if you look at Take 2 it seems they are likely planning a VR release for Red Dead 1 or 2 and like a modfing crew that made a way to play Red Dead on pc had them shutdown due to them not releasing a pc version yet.
On the good. They will not get my money when a red dead vr releases and I encouraging everyone to do the same hit them where it hurts by not buying there future titles.
All I asked was “Has Rockstar made such a comment?” I don’t see any thing about “free mods” in that question. I don’t see anything about “free mods”" in your remark to which I was responding.
“If LR had implemented a voluntary donation system instead of imposing a subscription, rockstar would certainly not have asked for the removal of mods, that’s all.”
shows no reference to “free mods” either so not sure what your on about with that.
As for telling me to “open my eyes” well that’s just
rude, given your reading words not in existence.
To which Rockstar would also need to Target VorpX as it is a VR injector not really different than any VR mod save that it is wrapped in a launcher that even has updates to add motion controller support. Especially by your logic that it is sold and not given out freely. Though as mentioned Take 2 did have a dmca for a pc port mod for Red Dead because they were intending on releasing a pc port. However this was not a mod as the group had reversed engineered the game engine to make one that was directly pc compatible vs using a console emulator. So was a clear copyright issue.
A curious one though id Valve & Blizzard’s dispute over ownership of Dota from details I have read it would seem that Blizzard should have a strong case. However it is not as simple as it maybe should be.
Grey is what mods are; forward companies have figure ways to make it work like Id Software/Bethesda. Whom started with Wolfenstein/Doom.
yay yay you seem to get a long with each other, i do agree that every one has a right to a own opinion.
Its funny to read, never the less.
how ever the rules are if gay ppl should have a right to exist in their nature, cars be moddable or even rules or cultrue are different on the world, we are its people.
I would also see those greedy companies die, life would be better without them, ahh wait wait hear me out you love gta, i do not.
do i love gta as vr mod, i do.
would i have played resident evil 2 without a vr mod or half life 2 propably not…
there are rules to follow, who makes the rules.
peace is selling, who is buying…
this discussion seems to be endless, to me.
What the literal hell. Worst thread ever. Poor Luke.
Luke will be fine; it is only 1 company thay has issues of being shortsighted.
Yes but that is due to this being a polarized subject. Mods are a grey area they are neither legal or illegal and each case if goes to the courts is determined there.
The interesting thing is injectors are not new; we have had 3d injectors that were used in the Early Oculus DeV days. VorpX which essentially has a wrapper launcher to launch the DeV’s vr mods; as he has often had to add support for a title and has I believe even added vr motion controller support.
Majority of game DeVs seem to be fine and support modding as long as your not using there code or Artwork.
There have been some game DeVs even gone after youtubers for gameplay videos with DMCA takedown notices or even sued because the youtuber advertised an exploit.
Agree
It’s just the usual mental exercise that comes with things beyond control. A court case in such a David?Goliath match up would not likely see the light of day. Even if in the right, if you can’t afford to prove it, it’s over. All users can do is speak with their wallets.
Hahaha this really is the worst thread on the forum. Ever. Which is quite an accomplishment.
I love drama so I feel like I should jump in. But this thread just wants to make me bang my head against the wall.
has anyone played lukes gta 5 vr mod recently? i’m having issues…after getting out of a vehicle i can’t turn left or right with the controller right thumb stick. it’s fine if i haven’t been in a vehicle.
i’m wondering if this fantastic mod is sadly finally broken now with it getting no updates?
