Here is an impression from a another guy,and he has almost the same exact feeling as me with the vive pro 2
Only he thinks that the vive pro 2 uses the same odyssey+ diffuser. But for my eyes its just a little softer then the G2. But close… Maybe it looks slightly like some very very little anti aliasing… But very slightly maybe…
But some games look realy Good…
That’s a great view. As a sit down sim racing guy with a rig in the corner against a wall, the G2 is great for that. I do applaud the VP2 being more efficient and not needing as much resolution to max out visuals. That’s certainly a drawback for the G2 even though I have a 3090.
For sim racing going forward, there’s not much left in the way of generating excitement. Sharpness is there already. FoV could be better but going from a 5k+ large to the G2, I didn’t really miss it after a day.
If you have G2 clarity, VP2 fov, inside out tracking, VP2 or better supersampling, G2 audio and mic, you pretty much have the perfect sim headset and we are not far away from that.
I agree it just feels a micro tad softer but its a fantastic image and the blacks and colors are so nice. Im going to have to put it down for a week as its just so buggy. Its like their Motion smooth (if you turn it on) is fighting with the steam one. AC dont work cause tracking is just weird and space is being pressed making it reset VR view all the time. I see it cause when i press the windows key to press stuff spaces are being inserted. If i do another window on another screen i get no spaces, its just weird. Wasnt there the first day. Iracing also has tracking issues that stem since the first Vive pro and index and you need to use revive. Thats on Iracing of course.
i wouldn’t say that. i would like total fov covering (pimax is a good but still vertical and horizontal black bars). also oled sde/smear free true blacks, and the main problem is proper 3d immersion, i had high hopes for varifocals and lightfield but i believe it wont happen anytime soon, + of course eye tracking with driver level foveated rendering for good performance. Then we need decrease weight, hmd should be as light as possible cv1 still one of the best in comfort for me
There’s always going to be something more people want. Similar to how a 20nm DD wheel works fine across the board for any sim titles but there will be people who want 30/40nm+ My point is that we’re not very far from what would be a defacto sim HMD. Special use cases and wants will always exist and that’s why people like Pimax still around.
light house tracking is also inside out, you probably mean markerless tracking in reference to the G2. the only outside-in hmd’s i know of are the oculus cv1 and psvr.
So far I have rather mixed feelings about the Vive Pro 2. It doesn’t provide the same level of acuity/detail as the G2, is rather on par with the 8KX, and I have had a couple of issues, especially with the standard foam making it a rather blurry affair once I leave the small sweet spot - if I press it into my face (out of lack of a thin foam) I can see that that would improve matters. But still the major upside on my 8KX seems to be the colors & the potential of being wireless (though with lower resolution only), but on the other side the FoV of the 8KX even in Small is significantly larger.
The ease of use I had hoped for so far has not materialized, I find it a bit burdonsome; the 8KX is even more complex of course due to its PiTool settings, and the PP downside.
But at this stage I would be returning the Pro 2; let’s see if the next 1-2 days will lead to a change of heart.
Give it some time, and use a thin face cover…i just did some skyrim and the forest… i loved the colors on the vive pro 2… Only i hope we get an option to turn off the automatic brightness…
And to turn off the Display Stream Compression (DSC)
