It is a bit weird why he hasn’t released his video review, that’s true but at the same time you have his written review - if his video review suddenly comes up with the contrary statements, you can bet he would get a sh!t storm too. So I do not suspect any hidden plan behind it, perhaps he had issues with his unit and is waiting for a replacement unit and an NDA prohibits something, I don’t know. But his view is already out in the wild.
On the modding point, I guess the positions have been explained and clarified. To be a bit cheeky, I suppose you guys will also ask car reviewers to describe chip modding right-away in their review of the next Vauxhall or Volvo, because you wouldn’t expect the excited car owner to put up with the sluggish acceleration those cars have out of the (well, quite big) box ?
In other words, we are apparently disagreeing about the nature of the VR headset market: I sense that you guys are seriously expecting the average customer to be equal to the average user on this forum. Please remember, that each of us who communicate on this forum clearly belong to the niche of enthusiast VR users who supported a KS campaign in 2018 of a hardly known Chinese company for a headset going beyond what main stream headsets till today are offering, and us survivors also put up with the sometimes enormous efforts required to get proper performance/visuals out of the Pimax headsets. We definitely are far away from the norm of VR users, whom these reviewers are trying to inform too.
If this was a car, we’d be talking about me expecting HTC to release a Vauxhall and some others expecting HTC to release a base hotrod which can be modded to finally fulfill the dream HTC is (advertizing and) selling with that car…
Nah, come on, comparing swapping face foams with chipping a car is of course far from a valid comparison. The first is easy as wiping your a$$, the other one is expensive and has several consequences, like missing your car for a few days, possibly warrantee issues etc.
I bet 95% of the users here have more than 1 foam type at home, while I’m expecting less than 2% have a chipped car. I’m a car fanatic but don’t even bother with chipping mine.
If voodoo is directing his vids at VR n00bs, then what is he doing on this forum? The 8k-X is probably the most modded and tweaked headset in existance. Without tweaking the experience usually is far from good. I had severe eyestrain at first, only after days (weeks?) of tweaking, testing and more tweaking I managed to fix that. I had to use the Vive strap to make it more comfortable, had to replace the audio with a DAC, replaced the foam, but the software tweaks were actually the most difficult. All that was needed to get it to a good experience. Out of the box it was just horrendous.
When he finally drops the review I’ll just skip everything and go to the end 3 minutes or so based on his written review.
Like I said earlier. He’s had the Pro2 since the 25th, was brazen enough to post a picture with it on the same day and making the point of a review coming soon.
We’re now like 24/48 hours before it drops through our front doors, almost past the point of cancellation of order before the hassle of having to post it back.
And within 3 weeks, it’ll be the same again with the focus 3.
Exactly. So Pimax users are the ones content to mod/adjust the sh!t out of the headsets to eventually make them work, otherwise they wouldn‘t put up with a Pimax anymore.
But I do not think Voodoo sees himself as being a enthusiast niche reviewer, but rather one who addresses the casual to enthusiast range, and casual users expect to be able to use the device as delivered (sometimes he fittingly appears less tech savvy himself…). It sometimes already beats casual users to comply with the standard setup requirements (e.g. lighthouse setup) of a Vive, and they often have little interest in going even beyond that hurdle in terms of effort.
Indeed but if VR manufacturers want to press forward adoption the in box contents needs to be more comprehensive.
Like Really it doesn’t make sense to not to include something as simple as a thick & thin face foam it is not a a big expense and will improve out of box experience. Especially with high priced headsets.
HTC should have learned this by Pimax’s example and mistake when they decided hopefully only temporarily to not include a thick ; thin facial foam.
Enthusiasts have several foams at home. And again, if he’s only addressing beginners, why is he participating on this forum? Pimax headsets are not for beginners. Clearly he seems to think (some of) his audience is here.
Did you verify that the DP cable is firmly pushed in at the HMD end? I’ve already had 2 headsets that arrived where the DP cable was not pushed in firmly causing those kind of problems. If nothing else works, try it on a different PC
And just another thought here, if it’s basically an upgraded Pro, I’m left wondering if a printed mod will be available in time to change the lenses again.
