Printable Oleds? Can you elaborate on this?
from within the article
“a significant amount of the material is wasted because it disperses all over the mask, in addition to inherent mask changes which expose the sheet to dust and compromise yields”
Just spitballing but couldn’t you mix magnetized graphene oxide with the OLED vapor material and steer where it goes with a magnetic field to avoid loss of material? Since graphene is conductive, its not like the OLED would not recieve current and glow as normal. Might even act as a heatsink for each pixel and allow you to drive it harder.
Interesting. The only way I would get involved in designing or prototyping would be for me to find some partners here in Taiwan and split the cost. Good to know about this. Very cool
Ooh, neat! Is that using pretty much the same lenses as Infiniteye, or…?
Yep, I built this between when Infiniteye 1 and 2 were created. Back on the days of Meant to be seen in 3D. I think the COO of Pimax was part of the community also if I remember correctly. I based it of Lionel creation (Foisi) first prototype
Really wish I had known about that forum earlier than the Oculus kickstarter. :7
Yeah, those were interesting days. Palmer was a Moderator at the time. I was building Cel phone VR cases and 90 degree FOV prototypes until 2013 when I got the itch for a wide FOV HMD
It was a great community, everyone was sharing ideas left and right
I guess we’ll just have to find something new, whose pioneering and friendly spirit we can wax nostalgically about in ten years time. :7
Hehe. There is plenty to improve in current VR headsets. It comes to leadership and vision. Then there is the funding. If these came together, then you would see much improvement.
Oh yes - still waiting for anything I’d feel inclined to call “generation 2”.
Wouldn’t mind a jump directly from gen 1 to high resolution lightfields. :9
I’d assume it’s better. The G2 already has much better clarity than the G2 and I own them both.
you should really check it out. It has been very good so far and has earned a place in my podcast rotation. I honestly lost faith in his reviews after his sudden turn on the 8KX but the podcast has been really nice with a lot of diverse views being expressed on the various topics by the podcast members
After reading MRTV’s review, I’m much more optimistic about this headset.
Voodoode’s review appears to have been rushed. He says he ran the tests on High settings because Ultra and Extreme mode caused the compositor to crash. He should have tried to solve this issue or get help from HTC instead of being the first to release a review. It also appears that his face shape and ipd are quite the outlier and perhaps he should add a disclaimer in his reviews about this. It is mind boggling how Sebastian could get 18 degrees more horizontal FOV with the standard foam.
i am also always come close to @VoodooDE messurements … so there are big differences on everybodys headshape… Lets hope maybe the shape is somewhat better for me on the vive pro 2… But why o why did they keep the terrible mic??
But i hope it has the same brightness and clarity and colors then the G2…
We will see…
‘Best colors in any LCD display’ … Impressive
‘Looks so much better than the colors of valve index’
… Getting hyped by Sebastian again
‘Blacks are better than G2’
'92% godrays ( vive pro 2) compared to 100% godrays to the index '( so still a problem )
Index was pretty good/saturated as it was…so that’s cool. I’m just wondering if everything is bright enough.
One thing I just did was modded my 8KX with padding so I don’t see any distortion. What I see after that when I look left/right is a blurry edge of the lenses, but when I look straight ahead, there’s no blur in the peripherals (I guess the roundness of my eyes can see a bit further looking straight than left/right). There’s still a little warping moving my head up/down but it’s usable.
Then I measured the FOV in the SteamVR environment, and guess what the FOV was?
~115 Horizontal(Small FOV mode), 95 Vertical…pretty much exactly what the Pro2 is.
Maybe a coincidence, but maybe that’s the maximum possible in a single plane for a lens to be good enough with no distortions? We know the Index could go higher vertically though…so I imagine an Index 2 doing 120H/110V.
I think I will go back to the Samsung Odyssey OG. I tested again after over a year, and just wow
I have watched a couple of episodes, but I don’t know. The guests are nice but I’m only interested when Gary is on.
I find Seb a little hard to listen to at length
