Waiting for your review. You’ll probably be more reasonable than both of them.
Funny you bring that up. The od+ looking back, was a great headset. The blur filter they added to reduce sde and the poor fitment is what let it down to me.
Shame Samsung never really followed up.
I was thinking about that myself.
I’m really interested in reading (watching) your review. Since you have been able to get a good experience with the 8KX the way I have, I’m interested in reading how the VP2 stacks up against the 8KX from the viewpoint of someone who actually really likes the 8KX.
Very much agreed. He also produces very balanced reviews and content.
Heh, so many factors go into a good experience, and depending on how well things are engineered and implemented, high-ranking stats are perfectly capable of meaning absolutely nothing - newer does never necessarily mean better. :7
I always liked my vive pro and I recently tried it again. I was amazed by how beautiful the colors are, really had forgotten how good oled vr looks. But apart from that the sde and resolution really didn’t age well. I wouldn’t be able to go back to that for sure. But to each their own
I similarly decided to go back and try the Index out a bit more. It seems they fixed the column effect, since I can’t really see it anymore, and now because of that, the screen door isn’t bad. I also realized I never tried Reshade VR with it…man it’s a huge gamechanger, and if the Pro 2 doesn’t blow my socks off, I will probably go back to the Index + Reshade, because Reshade pretty much fixes the blur that I don’t like with the Index, AND gets rid of the washed-out look. Plus, the Index is soo smooth with the low persistence, and FOV is nice enough. Then I’ll upgrade my GPU so I can play at higher graphics settings and/or always 120Hz instead of looking at undersampled aliasing like I do with the 8KX (and probably Pro 2).
I am currently using G2 for msfs and 8kx for elite dangerous. Can someone please tell me why I’ve ordered the Vive pro 2? I really had no intention of buying another headset but I guess I’m gambling on the fov working better on msfs, also I’m going to try the wireless which if any good will be a perfect match for the Yaw2 motion device if it ever arrives. I really love the fov on 8kx and see myself keeping it for years and watching it improve with each new GPU. However in mean times it is looking like Vive Pro 2 could be best experience with today’s hardware. I have had cable problems with G2, currently waiting over 3 weeks for replacement so I can divorce it much easier than 8kx.
Nice News ! i will sale my 5K plus for it
Sold my index yesterday for 300€ . Not much I know but still better than nothing .
Does anyone know what’s the maximum possible fov of the original vive pro 1. I am still a bit hyped to try the gear VR mod xD
Another review
Well, hopefully this Friday I’ll be super happy with my choice to sell my index for the Pro 2.
I’m actually looking forward to playing half-life again on the pro 2.
Don’t forget getting the bhaptics vest and arms , it’s essential
Do you guys know anything about shipping date?
I know it’ll be released on June 4th but newegg got June 11th
…the dual-element (lens) approach risks introducing additional glare around the outer edges of the lenses (on top of the usual Fresnel god-rays), and we see the same thing happening on Vive Pro 2…
…This additional glare, combined with the classically weak edge-to-edge clarity of HTC lenses, creates a sweet spot that at times feels oppressively small…
I will give it a try nevertheless, even if the read isn’t making it sound like the improvement on all fronts we were hoping for. I’ll certainly apply a thinner face mask as suggested by MRTV, and provided the comfort and space for prescription lenses is sufficient, will compare it mainly with the G2. Let’s see if the then definitely greater FoV (couldn’t mod the G2 gasket as my prescription lenses wouldn’t fit otherwise) and perhaps not that bad sweet spot after all (should be bigger than when unmodded) will outperform the loss in clarity, which seems to be the price to be paid. The on ear audio concept is fine for me, the camera’s aren’t going to be used anyhow, and the mic can be FrankenMic modded as suggested by MRTV.
If that is pretty much a wash, then the further pro’s of the Vive Pro 2 (no pun intended) come into play:
- (native) lighthouse tracking & knuckles compatibility for all non-sim use cases
- wireless module option
- 120 Hz (not that important to me, but it’s better to have than to wish for…)
- (for me personally) limited comfort of the G2 - always feels a bit tight.
So might be a winner after all - as long as my 8KX doesn’t flex its muscles; but it can’t since I don’t have an RTX4090 card yet powering my favorite games to great SS values notwithstanding the necessity to apply PP…
For those who didn’t believe my review, RoadToVR confirmed nearly everything that I said in my Review of the Vive Pro 2. Bad Sweet Spot, bad FOV (especial vertical), worse clarity than G2 and so on:
I guess you didn’t check it with thin foam when did the review & had no chance to redo it properly once HMD unit failed.
Also clarity comparison without having native resolution setup sounds at least weird to me
