Check the official Alyx page. It claims the game will support different play spaces, different move styles, and even different controllers (knuckles & wands). So technically you should be able to play it. Whether some game mechanics will differ in different configurations is another question.
I think you all are reading way too much into this: imho it is not so much Valve deliberately ignoring Pimax but just a matter of quantities - Pimax havenāt sold near enough quantities of their headsets to be considered worthy of getting an own spot in such listings of compatible headsets. If they sold many more, theyād probably get that spot, as simple as that.
The Quest is mentioned because a) it has sold quite a good volume of headsets already and b) it is important to remind the Quest owners that they can really play PC games now, courtesy of the Link option. So this would be customers who may not be aware that (or insecure about) playing HLA on their headset is an actual option.
True but I was brand new to VR (2017 Frontier expo event that was my first chance to try a Rift) so I went the safe route and bought a WMR headset and set Elite up with SteamVR for maximum plug n play
I think I made the right choice to give up on Pimax controllers and buy directly from Valve. I was already tired of waiting and my WMR controllers sucked
Personally I reckon that a pretty safe combination, for a couple of years at least, is 8KX + MAS + CK from Pimax and controllers from Valve. Basestations wherever you can source em
Yeah understand, Iām pretty much in the same boat. Seated was always the priority and Elite for most of that.
Anything involving any proper room scale ie 360 turns or flailing arms is going to result in smashed hands / controllers / furniture. Iām glad I figured that out with WMR and not Index
I have a little bit more room next door, but involves moving all the kit so not something I can do all the time and no connectivity except a few plug sockets. On the new PC, VR was a factor so I chose a motherboard with a decent wifi adapter as well as LAN port. One less cable to worry about. I also had a pre-HD 4:3 monitor knocking about with a spare keyboard and mouse, which is perfect to boot the machine into SteamVR without having to move my large main screen. Puts the old unwanted peripherals to use as well I also bought a wheeled base to stick the tower on when I do need to push it around
Edit: Iām planning to get away with a single v1 BS for as long as I can. Being LoS of course you can lose tracking on a 180 turn, but it reconnects way faster then WMR inside out tracking
I donāt want to overhype this game in my head too much before its release but it seriously looks impressive.
This is the sort of full game we need & hopefully will urge more AAA game studios to make vr games.
What a thoroughly nice thing valve is doing by giving away the game to anyone who previously bought an index, or controllers.
They didnāt have to do that but itās the sort of thing that makes people think of them as a great company.
On the other hand, if this company you talk of had also been sitting on an obscenely massive amount of money for the past decade like Valve, then Iām sure they would also have the financial freedom to do things like this
I think that Objects may be popping in and out at the edge of the FOV. I think there may be issues with distortion and performance. Just to name a few.
