Elite Dangerous

Also the X52 Pro, although not cheap, has enough buttons that I can play ED in VR without needing the keyboard or VoiceAttack.

Using the X-56 HOTAS also, just bought a wheel stand pro mount for it (as well as for my g29 wheel). Great stick (although the friction squeek is a bit annoying), I love the stick on the throttle for subtle control such as landing. Looking forward to trying with the 8K

I’ve found the paddle throttle works well for me in ED. The only throttle button command I ever use is Full Stop, which I use rarely (at most a few times a month). It would be nice if there was a detent in the middle of travel, to distinguish between forward and reverse, but setting a small dead zone works well enough.

Exactly. Coming from the Logitech to the X-56 was a night and day difference. Then when I added in the HCS voicepacks everything became that much more “real”.

Now HCS have added their Singularity profile that allows you to have multiple AIs loaded for different stations in the ship - an my enjoyment has increased tenfold. A small warning about enabling Profane Mode as it is definitely NOT in the PG-13 realm - as I found out when my navigator at the time started off calling me F***face, and then he got nasty!

To All, feel free to toss me a Friend request in-game. I mostly play in Solo and PG as my Combat skills are not the best due to physical issues - but am always up for a get together if it can be arranged. I use the same tag as my forum account here.

See you in the black…o7

I got the original ASTRA HCS pack a couple of years ago, I occasionally setup VA and HCS but never quite stuck with the habbit of using it. Will try to again next go around

Make sure you get the latest version of Astra, and try enabling and using the Singularity VA profile. With only 1 Voicepack Astra will be covering all stations - but you can get a feel for how it would be with additional profiles downloaded to the various stations. Additionally, if you decide to add more “personalities” later it will automatically adapt and allow you to “addemble a crew” using the available AIs.

Currently I have:
Orion - Shatner
Eli - DeLacy
Astra - ??
Dark - Nimoy
Vega - Spiner
Vasco - Blessed
Clio - Hayridge (Hilly from Red Dwarf)
Leo - Holly from RD
Jazz - ??

and I have a pre-order on Carinna - Marina Sirtis

I try to rotate the crew eaqch trip out just for fun.

Hope this helps!

I tried briefly m+k and switched to xbox 360 wireless controller rapidly. I was so pleased with it that I never searched for joystick solution. I hope it would fit with VR as well.

I recently bought a wireless Valve controller, but I prefer my Logitech Extreme 3D Pro for playing ED. The joystick has a lot more buttons and it feels more natural to me, for flying a spaceship.

Once I can play in VR, I might augment my joystick with the controller, for the Local and Galaxy maps (since I’m using a mouse for that now and that’s sub-optimal for VR). I’m also going to try using the controller for landing on high-G planets, since I don’t have analog control for thrusters.

Wow thanks for this info.

Just ordered a HOTAS T Flight X. $80 new in Japan so a little more than I wanted to pay but happy to go with it seeing the recommendations and also the throttle. Not too pricey.

What is Astra? Something to do with voice attack to save required keys?

HCS voice packs to addon into Voice Attack.

A lot of options there

agree, I use a stick with twist as well. It’s the only type of stick I would own. Without it a stick is “crippled” in my opinion. I use the Logitech X56 HOTAS for ED. Love the twist and mini sticks.

owned one, very limited in buttons so not good for VR simming if that is your type of game.

I’ve purchased Elite Dangerous and Season pass as well, but stopped playing on the last tutorial mission where you need to destroy 3 ships. Simply couldnt manage to destroy the last ship.

Controls was a bit complicated, considering a keyboard/mouse and VR headset. I could give it another try with 8k if i’ll find a good joystick for it. Not really sure if its even possible to bind all necessary things to a single gamepad.

If you’re after a hard-core flight-sim setup, then yes it probably is, but if you’re just a casual player, or don’t go for ultra-realism in your games, no, it’s way too expensive.

I would have one though if it wasn’t for the fact that it lacks the twist function on the stick.

I owned the warthog for 10 days; feels great yes…but no twist and I found this a deal breaker for space/flight sims and also I started reading of all sorts of issues with “sticktion” going back years so I took it back for a refund.

I bought Astra for VA…she can be quite cheeky at times in her responses

You should 't have let the advanced combat tutorial discourage you. It’s not that difficult but you must be confident with your use of thrusters and pip management is essential. So it’s not meant for beginners as much as for players that want to improve their skill and that are not satisfied just by engineering the most powerful ships and wreak havok among NPCs and less experienced players.
