Haha those two post above me are funny

If you suffer from ED, play more ED, while some may experience ED like symptoms… talk to your doctor about your current ED before seeking ED (in VR)

Everyone told me that ED was the best game in VR, and ED really is fantastic. But now with a wmr I can state that IL2 Battle of Stanligrad and American Truck Simulator are much better than ED.

I’m thinking about giving ED a try. Everyone on here seems to be really into it. I used to play Eve about 15 years ago, but more in a PvE with friends kind of a way, and got bored of getting ganked by huge groups of players in safe space just cos we’d bought nice ships. Would I be correct in assuming Elite can be played more PvE friendly? Also, my main reason for posting is i’d like people who play in VR’s advice on joysticks. I’d like to play in VR mainly so need advice on how you all play without having to remove the headset. Relatively cheap recommendations (around £40/$50USD/6000円 ish) if possible as I might just not like it and quit in a week haha. I’d buy an expensive one if i really get into it.

Is the 5000 yen Thrustmaster T16000m any good?

Would I be correct in assuming Elite can be played more PvE friendly?

Yes, you can play solo, or in your own private group with friends rather than open play. There are also large private PVE groups you can join if you want to still experience seeing/interacting/playing with others with low risk of pvp problems. One I joined was ‘Mobius’.

Absolutely so. As s @spamenigma just said, there is both a solo mode for general self-indulgence as well as Private Groups that are dedicated to and only allow PvE playstyle.

Myself, I prefer to use solo mode a lot of the time. My best stress relief is taking my T-9 which has been kitted out for mining (the M/V Zen Hippo) out for quiet relaxation in a planetary ring just mining away with appropriate music to match.

As for controls, I started with a Logitech 3D Pro and Voice Attack (highly recommended). Later I kept the VA and went for an X-56 HOTAS - now I am just patiently waiting for the Pimax to complete my rig. My wife is already in acceptance of the fact that once the 8K hits the doorstep I am probably going to disappear into my den for about 2 solid weeks of peace and beauty.

Hope this helps

Ok, thanks for the info. I’ll have a look into Mobius

Yes, some of the best fun I had in eve was just mining away with two friends and chatting, hoping we didn’t get rumbled. I’ll have a look at the Logitech 3D Pro, thanks. What do you do for a throttle on the cheaper sticks? Seems like the expensive ones people buy have a separate throttle for the left hand right?

I pay in solo, private for pve with a group of friends and open for a little of action against real players.

If you get into it… Add me as a friend on ED name is Enopho and I can help you out.

I had a Logitech 3d pro. But for immersion I changed to a T flight x. hotas, and voice attack so I don’t need to remove my hands from the joystick

Thanks @Enopho I’ll add you when I get into the game. I’m going to buy a joystick first, and my friend and I are still working our way through Divinity 2 which will take a little while. I might jump in before him in my spare time though.

So you just switch between open/private/solo at login and can change whenever you log?

I might have a look at getting a second hand T flight X style setup to get the throttle as well then if people think its worth starting out with. If you don’t have the throttle section in VR, what do you have to do to control it? Do you have to use a keyboard blindly?

Haha my wife also told me she was prepared to merely serving me food for a few weeks when I get my 8K.

By the way, if you turn your head to the left the 8K looks like a man with two giant eyes. Coincidence? I think not.

I use a Logitech Extreme 3D Pro and Voice Attack with an HCS VoicePack (Obsidian). There’s a fairly steep learning curve, but imo it’s worth it. I’ve been playing it as my main game for 3 years, but you need a high tolerance for repetition to enjoy the game. It’s good to take breaks occasionally, so you don’t burn out on ED.

If you haven’t watched this yet, you should. It’s very funny and has some good tips for beginners…

Thrustmaster T1600 is a great Hotas, I now have 2 one in the UK and 1 in Spain. My son, stepson and another guy in our wing use them and they are very configurable and easy to use. I also got a couple of Thrustmaster Cougar MFD’s to use for extra button presses - very useful in VR.

I can recommend either the thrustmaster x as a cheap hotas.
Or the 160000m the latter practically is designed for the type of space SIM elite is.

Personally I bought a full CH set, stick throttle and pedals some three years ago.

Currently suffering some upgradeitis though. So replaced the stick with a Virpil Mongoose and awaiting a set of MFG Crosswind pedals.

Don’t even get me started in twist sticks. They are an abomination that never should have existed.

Not sure what I should replace the throttle either though. ED doesn’t really require a lot of precision and I have yet to find one with a suitable mini stick.

Virpil claim they will make one eventually. So guess I will keep my CH for then.

Respectfully, that’s a matter of opinion. I use one and like it a lot.

There’s no opinion about it.

For one that motion will strain your wrists, seriously the human wrist is not meant to bend that way.

And thus it’s impossible, if say you bind yaw to it, not to also affect your roll or pitch input.
Might not be that in elite but in proper Sims. That’s a crash.
You will never find a jet or airplane with a twist stick so pretend to fly with them?
And did I mention the pain ?
I don’t suffer from anything but if I flew a combat stint in ed the way I do with a twist. I wouldn’t be able to hold a carton of milk for a week.
Not to mention I would also loose at least 70% of my precision.
I would have to start relying on gimbals or something.

Interesting. It’s never bothered me. One of the reasons I started to play ED was that I have arm issues from using a mouse all day and a joystick provides some relief from that.

in the main menu you can choose to start the game in

OPEN (multiplayer)
PRIVATE (just your friends or specific private groups i.e. Mobius for PVE - you can even create your own private group for you and your friends)
SOLO (single player)

all 3 options cross over with each other… i.e, if you are in open and use a ship to do bounty’s those credits will transfer to all of the other game types.

for flight - personally i use HOTAS T Flight X and voice attack - its relatively cheap but seems to work quite well, if you don’t have a throttle (say your using a logitech 3d pro) then you can bind keys or a mouse wheel for instance for your throttle. some will say the logitech has a flap paddle but you will need to use keys and its not really a suitable throttle for ED

if you need help in game, send me a message and i will invite you to our private group - we can all help you out and it will lower the learning curve somewhat.

ĖThis will really bake your noodle then: I use the X52 Pro HOTAS, and I use the twist… for roll, and left-right for yaw :open_mouth:. To me it’s more intuitive and it gives me a distinct adge in piloting in ED.

If you want realism, fine, go build yourself a flight chair with all the sticks, pedals and instrumentation that you need (and a pair of goggles and a very stiff neck scarf to complete the look :stuck_out_tongue:) but remember that the majority of us play for escapism not realism.
