Digital Combat Simulator

I hope Pimax are still considering DCS for their next demo!

I agree. IL-2 Sturmovik, Is the best VR experiencie in a WWII cockpit.

Maybe in future when they, if they implement interaction in cockpit like it is in DCS. Interaction with your plain is major issue for VR and realism.
Point is with DCS is if its work with DCS it is working for everything else.
BoS is just better optimized for VR and that is just part of the VR experience not full.

So IL2-Sturmovik 1946 or Cliff of dovers are compatible with VR or only BOS?

I would like to keep this topic related to DCS please.

Ok, given the thread title, a new one will be created.

You are right. I have to agree.
Interaction in cockpit is very important in VR.
I was just talking about VR implementation and optimization.

At the moment only BoS.
A group of modders called Team Fusion is working in CLoD to implement DX11 and VR in the future.

One day we shall be able to in VR reach for switches and levers in cockpit and have not just visual representation of the action but also physical feedback of such. This is when these things will be worthwhile. Not sure if it will be possible for control mechanisms to be VR reproduced, that would be great but I think one would need holodeck tech for that.

In the meantime, physical controllers with HOTAS controls will have to do.

Man, that will be AWESOME!!!

Include the scent one too, and some people won’t be leaving certain VR experiences

Technically this should be with just minor changes already possible in DCS. We already have interaction in cockpit but it is made with 2D up/sown Lwft/Right mouse cursor. If ED just made this cursore 3D with 6DoF positional spacing in cockpit will be able to perfectly use Leapmotion for that. Leapmotion is just 50$ addon module for hand tracking.

A couple of questions:

Will the Pimax 8K headset work straight out of the box with DCS, or will DCS need to support it via software update?

Will the standalone DCS version work, or do I need the steam DCS version?

In theory if you have dcs already setup for vr probably.

Working already with Pimax4K so don’t see the reason why will be diferent with Pimax8K.

When we are talking what ED need to do in DCS for VR it is more general VR optimization in game it self. There is nothing to do with Pimax or some other hardware.

The standalone version are you talking about here?

Can we have a DCS video please?!

We will upload DCS video on Youtube at the day after tomorrow.

Either I’m reading what you’re saying wrong, or you’re not entirely correct. Yes, the cursor is a 2d cross, but it’s rendered in 3d space and automatically snaps on to the panel that you are pointing at. It works perfectly fine in DCS and there’s no reason for the cursor itself to be 3d.

I also have to disagree on interactive cockpits being necessary for a VR sim. They’re very fun for a study sim like DCS World, but as far as combat sims like IL-2 goes it’s largely meaningless. IL-2 does a far better job than DCS with WWII era combat in a lot of ways. The biggest being the damage models, they’re awful in DCS right now, but great in IL-2. IL-2 also has far better effects for everything from tracer fire to engine smoke, which adds far more for realism than clicking a couple buttons in the cockpit.

Honestly, the only reason I want to see Pimax demo DCS, IL-2, and/or War Thunder are to see that they actually work in VR. Right now all they’re showing with the demos of Elite, Arizona Sunshine and now Project cars are just the menu and some visuals through the lenses anyways. I’d love to see how the menus and cockpits look in DCS and War Thunder, and know for sure that I’ll be able to play them on a 8K before I order one since those are my most played VR games right now.

Awesome thanks! The longer the better.

YAY! Can’t wait to see it! Thanks.
