sooooo i set up my 4 eye cams and kinect 360 did all the calibration with psmoveservice and DRIVER4VR and now i ran into bandwith issues headtracking Works well with Kinect!!!
a PCIe usb 3 is on its way neverleth it Works quite well totally recomend it!!!
Still didnāt decide which VR I should buy. CV1 is now 400$ with tuch kontrolers and dual camera for room scaling.
SDE but no ghosting and perfect tracking.
Pimax with only support for Nolo 375$ + 210$ for Nolo - No SDE but low refresh rate, ghosting, colors, bad tracking and much higher price for complete solution definitely droping out of the game for my VR solution.
Pimax should think about it self and adopt to the new market relations. PSmove work for me, kinect as well. Nolo is out of the question.
I hear you there. For a complete solution out of the box Rift Cv1 is attractive @ the new price offering. Subtract controllers & tracking system & the current rift headset is priced more appropiately.
As for PiMax; while nolo has integrated support (agreed over priced). 360 kinect &/or psmove can work well (drvr4vr is a great manager) abeit through steam at present.
The Dev team is working on bringing more support for other options & we have suggested they should contact Greg@drvr4vr.
Depending on what your looking for the kinect is a great addon of which @pho3nix reports seems to be compensating for drift. The move can work decently for motion controllers(just keep in mind darker rooms eorks best)
But if your looking for a seated experience with a controller of your choice (wheels/flight/gamepad) the 360 kinect (greg looking into kinect v2.0) is a good choice for seated or standing.
The team has the renderer quality up to par & can now work on ghodting & drift. By tge looks of it will likely look into kinect support. Lots of good things in the works.
I would be interested in if you could use oculus controllers with other headsets.
Yes. For my personal preferences I will use it in seating position and using HOTAS or Wheel for sims.
For me personally best solution is just pingpong ball DIY PSmove replica. Even if I add EDtracker who is working much better than gyro on phone.
If Pimax donāt have its own tracking solution then should lean on third part solution especially on free opensource solutions like Opentrack PSmoveservice or Drive4VR. It is saving expences and expanding posibilities what directly made Pimax more attractive as VR solution.
Awesome. The pingpong ball with with ps3 cam is quite reasonable. But i would reccommend the the 360 kinect as it seems to work really well. You should be able to find them cheap. Typically under $30 (if its the 1 with proprietary connecter ther is an adapter or guides in how to wire back to usb). Combine with drvr4vr with either option for ease if use. @pho3nix has said its easier to setup.
I was fortunate to get a 360 kinect (original) with the nykko attachment to reduce space.
Kinect looks interesting and will like to try it definitely but personaly I got experiance with freetrack and opentrack and I was made my own IR LED clip same as DIY EDtracker based on 9250 gyro with magnetometer.
I believe for just headtrcking purpose I could even use my modified PS3Eye without IR filter and put that 3 IR LED inside pingpong ball and have IR based headtracking which will work in any light condition because IR setup. I know from my experiance that some of the problems Phoenix mention could be solved with more tweaking.
So this is my personal choice because I already have some materials and experiance with it and not necessary better than kinect.
I got one question PS3Eye runs on 75 or 150Hz depend on resolution, I hear somewhere Kinect works on 30Hz only like ordinary webcam. Is that corect and on how much Hz Kinect working?
Yes you look to be right but seems to perform better & easier to setup. Truth though more expensive around $60 canadian then add adapter for power & usb 3 connecter the kinect 2.0 (xb1) when supported has significant upgrades/changes.
But with you being a tinkerer setup would be less troublesome to one with your technical experience.
With 360 kinect pricing makes either way to have one. Mixing multiple kinects for non VR applications is interesting as you can for example use them to create 3d scans; of which could be handy for 3d printers to create āadd on modsā. Again for this application v2.0 would be stronger/better as it uses optical vs ir projection.
Yes Kinact looks good as well. In essence it is same shit as VicoVR.
My first headtracking I made for Logitec webcam on 30FPS. Freetrack have option for setting up multiplier which calculating positions between frames inside this 30FPS range so with multiplier 4 you are simulating 120FPS to get smootnes in head move. Iām guesing Kinect do something similar. In practice I didnāt notice much diference, head tracking was smooth only real problem was FOV of LED lights and camera.
So I believe Kinect could work OK as well no matter of diference in FPS. In practic use this is something like people clame they can notice difference between 60 and 120 Hz monitors. Yes but only in some fast FPS games like CS Go or Call of Duty in Sims this will be barely noticeable. So in practice use this doference will be hard to notice at all.
Indeed though intetesting how well tge 360 kinect performs vs vicovr. If i had to guess most likely due to limited bandwidth on bluetooth. Where as 360 kinect is reported heavy in usb bandwidth. The kinect v2.0 will be sweet when supported added to drvr4vr (when of course Greg has time to implement)
Sometimes perceived improvements are a result of reading a spec sheet. (as no1 wants to be the one that canāt see the difference)
@wormeaten - you cannot say no need for additional driver because other Virtual headset made from Mobile phones [ in Cardbox ] are not using as working with RiftCat⦠like you don`t need a car wheel flying an airplane - please try to understand there is a smail difference - since we are here, owning a Pimax on Pimax forum - in our situation for Steam positional tracking Pimax still requires additional driver ! [ we are NOT using iPhones in Cardbox with RiftCat ]
It seems that also light is affecting [ better when additional lamp ], position [ many tested, and 40 degree on front/left - now ] and the worst that my wheel is in front and hotas [ shadowing me all the time⦠] - this affects the visibility and quality. Sometimes it has this little jumps, sometimes works flawlessly [ also changed to USB3.0 due to bandwidth ]. There are also many params to setup [ speed / position which changes overall feeling ] - it works, but still is not CV1 quality unfortunetelly, or maybe a location [ due to DOF ] is still a problem in my case.
@pho3nix. As I understand you got simmilar problems as with āpingpongā when under some conditions view betwen you and cam is blocked in some reason?
Did you try position your ball on stripe in top of your head instead on top of your HMD? there is Video which explain best position for that.
