CV1 upgrade to Pimax 4K + PSMove / Kinect positional tracking

Awesome post!

I haven’t tested mine as of yet. I would be curious if one could use 2 kinects. I recall when folks went kinect crazy some were using 2 of them for various fun projects.

@Heliosurge my next wish is integration between PSMove + Kinetic (replacing the PSCamera)

That even though there is small cost for it. Greg’s Drvr4VR

These folks i know are playing with this program.

Luke has talked to him about getting xb1 kinect support

  • GOOD that Support is listening !

It could actually work, but I didn`t test them together… a PSMove is using other libraries to work in Steam as controllers, then HMD tracker which handles D4VR [ Kinect, or PSMove ]

 I think that USB bandwidth could be a limiter, since Kinect uses a lot of…

Be something ti forward to greg @ drvr4vr

As I “hardly” found [ and manage to check ] couple of working solutions for PositionalTracking like Kinect / PSMove - alternatives to the NOLO [ which is not a Pimax native by the way = outsourced / co-operated achievement ] - so maybe @PIMAX-Support @deletedpimaxrep1 - could talk to Greg@Driver4VR - to include them, or to co-operate / work together on improvements - giving a ready out of the box solution to the end users [ which sometimes cannot easly configure this, or have other problems during calibration - as it is not as easy, as could be ] ?
This + Gyroscope [ or Magnetometer ] Calibration + [ ResetView - “power” button on HMD ] would be very nice [ if you have Kinect = OK, if you have PSMove = OK, NOLO = here you go ! ] Maybe it is not a bad idea afterall, if many users could benefit of it ??

He said that he has a bit on his plate at the moment, but it is on his to do list.

The team is focusing on Nolo solution with magnetometer calibration and hotkey. we will report the progress on 4K Software Wish List next week http://community.openmr.ai/t/pimax-4k-software-wish-list/2468

@deletedpimaxrep1 - THANK YOU for this upcoming calibration / reset [ need to have enhancement ] !
but please just consider this, as NOLO - FORCES client to buy a PositionalTracking at price level of an HMD… [ it was SUPPOSED to be a 100$ solution, NOT costs 210$ - this also influence Pimax4K with PT to cost 500-600$ ] - WHY do I have to obligatory buy a NOLO - if I just want a Pimax 4K ?!.. if I can use “WORKING” alternatives as: Kinect [ 360/XONE], PSMove, Hydra, LeapMotion at 5-10% of its price… Some people will off course buy NOLO - why not ! but other already have such controllers [ Kinect/PSMove/LM/HYDRA ] - so why not to support EVERYONE [ make happy all interested people here ] - in easy way ? please just consider [ as some of us are already using D4VR solution - already bought it - but I have in mind many *NEW users - which could benefit if can be implement natively - PiPlay in future. To confirm that Pimax4K is first 4K solution - which supports a PT in many WAYS ! also a good PR - I think  ]

I agree.
The price is the reason I haven’t and probably wont buy Nolo. It’s just too expensive.
Also, @deletedpimaxrep1 - please ask your engineers look at the Microsoft Kinect for Windows V2 system.

It is FAR superior to Nolo in that it has full body sensing, understands hand gestures, has voice and face recognition abilities.

If Pimax was looking for a quality professional tracking system, then MS Kinect V2 should be on your list.

There is a SDK V2.0 with lots of developer community support and many tutorials from Microsoft Team on YouTube.

This is as well effecting on Pimax market. Expanding is more priority to Pimax then helping Nolo who shows is not better solution at all.

Yep with Nolo jacking the price up & oculus selling theres for what it should have been.

On top of it nolo struggling to deliver results claimed.

Here are the possible ways to make Pimax 4K tracking better: 1, Pimax team works with Nolo to solve the issues 2, if you can pick one alternative tracking solution, which one you prefer?

Since it seems that you have started working with Nolo, I think it is important to finish the work and make Nolo work seamlessly with Pimax.

Other than that, Nolo has to do the work and make it’s product competitive with market expectations. In my opinion and from what I have seen so far, it’s not worth the cost.

I think that Microsoft Kinect V2 has the superior capability and the backing of a large corporation.
I can’t see how you could go wrong.
It has been designed for the XBox One but is intended to be applied beyond the XBox plateform.

First, had used a PSMove which even worked, but requires many applications and not easy setup, also you need to put something on HMD [ not very practical ] later I bought a Kinect V1-X360 and is much easier to setup [ requires only a Microsoft SDK ] and can track full body, with gestures, etc. Will fit both requirements of users: Seated [ Oculus ] and Room [ Vive ] VR, I preffer Kinect.

XB1 Kinect. I already have one and would only cost £30 for the adapter.

Greg at DRIVER4VR may be someone you should chat with. From what I can gather he has the 360 kinect working and when I emailed him he was happy to look at the XB1 Kinect.

I would not buy the NOLO at the price it is.

I agree. XBox 360 Kinect is proven tech. Support for it would be much better. It is Nolo’s responsibility to make their system work with everyone else’s products.

Indeed makes you wonder why rift/vive wasted so much money on this when there was proven options available. Could have kept costs reasonable by just focusing on hmd & controllers
