As stated, they cost more than new lighthouses here and then no one wants the hmd without them so unlikely to get the difference back anyway by on selling the hmd.

It will work until you get the lighthouses from Pimax (if you orded it) work with turning head and its what you mainly need in sims.
My assumption, at the end of next year used v.1 VIVE lighthouses will cost 30$ or less, because noone going to need them anymore. The point was, an argument that you can buy LH now, and sell it later is not valid. You can buy them for 150$, or even 200$ as you say. But you never will be able to resell them at the same price, so you will get around 1/5 of your investment back, or even less.

Because not being able to move your head really simulates real life.
As stated in another thread. 3dof is never adequate in a sim, but can be adequate in some games.
This notion that sims only need 3dof is so far off the mark it’s ludicrous. Sims are useless in 3dof.

As I said, wrong. What you really need in sims, is that your head movements in virtual world correspond with your head movements in real world. It can not be achieved with 3DOF, so experience will really, really suck!

Like ones i stod up and walked in my ship in ed, other you look up/down, left/right so dont agree with you that it will make it so you cant play until you get full tracking.
There is almost nothing to see in ED cockpit. Modern jets are another story. It was suck with 3DOF head tracking even without VR, that why 6DOF TrackIR become so popular. In VR it would be much, much worse.

As @Lehmen says if you have been using Track iR, in my case for 15 years, it’s big step back to 3 Dof but none of this answers the question @anon74848233, where are we with the base stations?

You must be a clairvoyant saying the gyro tracking is shit before anyone were complaining. Except the Australian guy, who, if my memory serves me right, had his PC loudspeakers too close to the headset. (?)

I had my 5k+ since yesterday and I haven’t any issue so far with the gyro.
I don’t have any basestation for the moment, and everything work great.

I don’t come on here just to talk shit. The 3DOF tracking on the 5K has not been improved. It has the same drift problem as the 4K
Main problem, that it is not enough, even when working perfectly. But it is seems, that this is what we going to get until summer at least. So, I have no other choice, and just ordered V1 LH on ebay. 160$ for a device that I’m going to just trow away, when Pimax finally send his LH’es.
Yes I support this 200%, pimax must tell us if they can get v1 LH sooner and offer that in remplacement of v2 LH to backers who agree with this solution.
In my opinion pimax should have opted for v1 LH from the start of the KS if they had no visibility on v2 delivery from supplier. And if they had no visibility to supply any LH version then they should have been honest from the beginning of the KS and be clear they will only be able to offer a HMD alone and people needed to find LH by themselves to have it fully functionnal (= 6DOF).
@anon74848233 Please give us an answer about the possibility to trade v2 for v1 LH if you can get those quickly. You cannot just let us with another last minute delay of 6 months or maybe even more to have a fully functionnal 6DOF HMD. Either you manage to build a deal to obtain v1 LH quickly and propose that tradeoff to backers who want or you must accept to refund those v2 LH you are unable to obtain.

And a year ago they were around 40-50$ Now they are 150$. When it will be time to sell, most probably they would drop to be around 30$ or less. Add the shipping expenses - and it would be easier just to trow it away. So, I don’t have my hopes high regarding reselling it. The main mistake I made, not buying it a year ago, trusting that by the time my HMD will be ready to ship (backer 24xx), LH’es will ready too.
